Chronicle Day 1 Friday:
Layla packed all of her essentials that she knew she'd need. She gathered all the items that she had taken with them for the engagement trip. She checked and rechecked to make sure she'd have enough clothing both warm and cold weather, food staples, water proof matches, sneakers and climbing shoes, sleeping roll, a towel and toiletries and whatever else she night need, she grabbed a book and a journal, pen and paper and some materials she would need to collect some flora and fauna samples. She was showered, fed, dressed, packed and out the door at about 4 am that morning. She kissed Lucas and wee man on the head as they slept and she headed out. Going in a direction, that should have been south west of the resort, according to the compass. She planned to go on a very unplanned trip. Scavenging for seeds and other edibles, non edibles/poisons would be collected and put in a special box that she brought with her. The whole point of this trip was to get out on her own, to check the place out, gather Intel and different kinds of plants both edible and poisonous and whatever else she might run into. Lastly, it was just for her to reconnect with nature. She missed it. She loved Lucas and Iggy and her friends, but she missed home and her survivalists holidays with family. She really needed this and she knew she'd be sore from all the walking, climbing and other activities, but in the end it would all be worth it. *
She came to a small, what almost looked like a salt spring. One of those really warm, salt water baths that were good for all manner of ailments.
She had been hiking all day. She began to walk up along a path, At one point it became super steep and took all her effort to walk up the path. She had to grab onto trees and pull up. She grew a vines from one tree that she tied around her waist and managed to help pull her up the steep incline. Her hand grabbed onto one tree, it was mushy and came away in her hands. She pulled the bits of debris off and took a good look at it, noting it was being eaten by termites. She studied the tree for a while. It was gnarled and full of that strange, blue/green moss. She wiped off her hands as best as she could. Listening to the tree for a bit. It was old and dying. She helped it along to it's next phase, thanking her as it passed on. As she continued on her path, she came to a cluster of trees that were just outside of this salt water spring. It was a hot spring, she could tell from the smell and the look of it as she got closer. The trees that she came to where slowly becoming petrified. She sat down to talk to them, to find out how the process came about. They were amazing. The entire family were tall, tower the very top all five of the trees that surrounded this natural hot tub, they were all twisting and coming together in this strange looking Monolith. The opening was a little bit of a push to get into. She took of her ruck sack, pushed throw into this mini oasis. Trees were covered in vines of flowers and moss, a circle of mushrooms were in the middle, closest to the youngest of the five trees. Sunlight peeked through from the top, but just barely. It smelled of sulfur and salt and this foamy, earthy and sweetness she couldn't explain. She wished she had a camera. Just standing in the center and looking up you could see bits of the sky and rays of the sun peeking out. At night it must be like a small fairy wonderland. She decided to camp in there. She just put up a tarp, that sloped down to give her some kind of protection from the elements. She talked to the trees and found the best place to gather wood, kindling and dead grass. She came back to dig a small ditch. She put rocks around the edges and lit a fire. Making a food pit. She wrapped up some potatoes she grew in tin foil. Packing them inside the embers using the tongs she brought. Hanging over the top of the fire was a metal triangle, hanging from the middle of this was a pot. She put fresh water that she brought with her inside, then she grew a plethora of beans, barely, carrots, and so many other veggies. Cleaned and cut them all up, making herself a stew. She left that to brew. Put out her sleeping bag. She closed off any opening around the bottom of this natural gazebo to keep out animals. Then she tested the waters and temperature of this salt spring. This would be the place she remained for her trip. Coming up here to meditate, get closer to nature and herself. She disrobed, put her clothes in her sack to keep out bugs. Then she stepped into the spring and relaxed. Letting the heat, the salt and the beauty of this place seep into every pore of her being. She relaxed, closed her eyes and smiled. This was the first time in months, that she was by herself, in her element and had a smile on her face that was not caused by Lucas. It turned warmer and brighter, recalling her husband. Tonight would be a beautiful night. ~FADE TO BLACK~.
Saturday Day 2:
Layla woke up and stretched. She slept outside. Under the stars, so when she did wake up it was around 4 a.m. She stood and stretched, stripping again to step back into the salt water spring. She relaxed in the water for a while, falling asleep with her head leaning back. When she woke back up, birds were chirping, animals were chattering. She got out of the water and decided to not dress for a bit as she recreated a fire pit. She had made an effort to completely close up her belongings so that she didn't find any rummaging wildlife inside of it. One the fire was started, she cooked another potato and some beans in sauce. Pulling on some cotton yoga pants, a tank top and her shoes. She went through most of her toga poses. Then a series of stretches, some strength training, then finished up with some more yoga. Breakfast was done, she put the potato and beans on her plate and chowed down. She put the fire out, cleaned off her dishes and dried them off. Packing all of her stuff away. She finished up with washing up, brushing her teeth. She checked her jacket for crickets and bugs. Set her gear up in a place that could keep it dry, clean and animal free, by putting it in on of the petrified trees. Then it was time to go out and look around.
She cleared through the trees and began to walk in a random direction. Her compass at the ready. She was excited. She watched a family of birds for a bit, there were a family of what she could only think of as Robins, with teeth no less. As she watched over them, two of her five eggs hatched. Watching that scene was amazing. As the mother ran around to feed the newborns. Layla was so embroiled in what she was doing she never noticed the baby ear heading her way. Back home it would probably be considered a Kodiak Bear. He was huge, for a baby. Rooting around for food. Layla heard the roar, then she noticed the bees and the hive of bees. She had no choice but to climb another tree, wrapping herself as she watched the ay climb the tree and take the honeycomb. As she was watching the small bear, the little guy's family were making it's way toward her. She almost screamed, they were HUGE and she was alone and going to die. She willed herself to calm down as much as possible. The father bear regarded the tree she was in with much interest. It probably smelled her fear. She bit her lip and waited. Her eyes screwed shut, but then something else caught it's attention. She watched as they collected nuts, veggies, fruits, more honeycombs and so much more. They roared back and forth to each other. The father giving her tree another good sniff. Layla sat there still and intently watching. The bear finally gave up and they took off back to the cave they were inhabiting. Once they were gone, Layla let out a squeak and a breath she hadn't realized she was holding in. She was trembling, but smiling. That was a sign for her to move on. She headed back to camp, making herself some lunch, then she headed in the opposite direction. Careful of more bears, she found another cave and checked it out. Finding an inside waterfall, stalactites and stalagmites. This odd greenish/blue glowing algae and some freaky one eyed bats. She climbed around inside this cave for a few hours. Noting that this was where the salt water spring originated from, then she made her ascent back up tot he cave mouth and back to her camping site. She ended her evening cooking more barely soup and taking a long, hot soak in the spring. Staring up in the sky, she wondered about Lucas, what he was doing, who he was hanging out with, what he was thinking, how Iggy was and so much more. She missed him so, so much. She got out of the spring, dressed in clean clothes, ate her dinner, cleaned everything up and herself. Then in her cleaned out sleeping bag, she climbed inside and read a few chapters of Lord of the Rings, before falling asleep under the stars and thinking about Lucas.~FADE TO BLACK~
Day 3
Layla awoke with a crick in her neck, she was tired, bone weary. She had a feeling that silly flu still kept her down. She could feel the change in the barometric pressure and noticed that all the insects seemed to be fighting to find a hiding spot. She rolled up her gear, shook out her jacket and decided to go and look for a place that was dry and she could have a nice fire. She began to search the clearing, all of her gear was packed in her rucksack and stored in a nice dry area until she could find something. She was intent on finding a nice place to shack up for the space of another day at bare minimum, may be two. If it rained that hill she climbed up would be a nightmare to navigate, even with powers. She walked may be a hundred meters and that was when she heard a rustling. She was about to hide behind a tree when she heard a sniffling and then a loud as can be roar. She turned and was face to face with what seemed to be a grizzly bear. The oddity about this creature was that it's fur was all different shades of gray, green and yellow. It blended into the wooded areas almost too perfectly. The rocks, the trees and so forth. This freaked Layla out, so as she was backing up ever so slowly she stepped on a branch of some sort and heard the snap of dry wood. The bear roared and began to amble her way. She turned to run and nearly ran head first into Papa bear and a few baby bears. Layla flipped out and screamed. Probably not the best thing to do, not by a long shot. She was running with Mama bear on her heals ready to defend her young and to make Layla mince meat. Layla did not want to be mince meat. She was still achy and cranky to boot. She picked up the pace and to the left there was a clearing with a bunch of trees. She ran into the clearing, knowing that a bear could totally shake down the tree and thus pull Layla down to its level or climb the tree and claws + skin = mince meat. This equation was simply beginning to piss her off. So, when she found a cluster of trees so tightly knit that the bear could not get inside, Layla climbed into them and pushed herself back as far as she could. It felt like hours and eventually Layla's fear died down as well as the bears interest. The bear was intent on finding food, hibernation was over and they were hungry and had all this compacted goo up their bottoms(see, bears know that when hibernation is upon them, they do something that clogs up their intestines to the point that it makes a plug. This way the need to defecate is not an issue and they can sleep through the winter, full of whatever food they had eaten. It was a long winter and Layla was not playing fair. Thank the gods, now Layla had to find a way to get herself out of these trees and back to her rucksack. She was not going to be able to find something dry and out of harms way, not if there were bears prevalent in the area. Her hood got snagged in the bark of one of the trees and she began to pull, pulling as hard as she could. It was still somewhat dark out, had to be around 4 ish in the morning when she felt something fall into the back of her coat, and it was slithering. She wigged out, pulling herself free, by losing the coat and boy was it cold and damp outside. She wrangled whatever it was off her back and out of her shirt and it was a rather long, ugly looking snake. Since the markings Here were all different then where she came from, Layla had no idea if the little bastards were poisonous or not. She pulled it out of her shirt and flung it as far away from her as she could. Her hoodie gave her some protection. She went into the pockets of her jacket and pulled out whatever she needed, calling the jacket a useless piece of fabric by now. That was when something long, cold and strong slithered onto her shoulder, wrapped around her neck and body and began to squeeze, this thing was huge. Layla was choking and seeing black around the edges of her eyesight. Vaguely in the background she heard the sound of squeaking and crunching and the tell tale sign that she was smack dab in the center of a snakes nest. She was next on the snack food table with this huge, and I mean 6 feet long and black and red and big. Layla was squicked and slowly loosing air. She tried to scream, especially when another snake fell into her hair and began to slither around. She was just about ready to pass out when with all the strength she had, she used her powers to make the trees grow vines that wrapped around the snakes covering her body and the one around her neck. They began to pull and the snakes began to squeeze harder. She was about to pass out when she used all of her strength she could and made the vines grow super thick and strong. They pried the snakes off her neck and flung them far and away. She looked up and there were snakes crawling everywhere. This was the selling point in Layla's trip being done. She took a few sketchy breaths, nearly fainting a few times. She finally caught her breath and rose, ducking out of the way of a couple of other snakes. The dawn was just about to rise, there was some light, but it was mostly blacked out by trees, but with good night vision she could see hundreds of snakes dangling from trees, crawling up others. She was gaining her bearings, about to run and she heard the squeak again. She tripped and fell and came face to face with a medium sized, very dead and bloody what looked like a pink and black chipmunk. Next to it were the bodies of a few others and a snake was crawling toward the last remaining two, they were squeaking and making pitiful sounds. Layla grabbed the snake around its neck, after her third try and threw it into the pit of other snakes. She picked up a chipmunk in each hand, stuffed them in her hoodies inner pockets and ran toward her ruck sack. She made sure they were safe and sound, coughing and almost fainting again...she loathed snakes and it really squeezed her neck, but good. It didn't feel bruised, just a little tender. IF she had passed out the snake probably would have crushed her wind pipe and snapped her neck. With her new friends in tow, she secured her ruck sack and with her powers, she grew vines. Using them to repel down the step embankment, her feet slipping on some mud. She finally got steady and made it all the way down to the flat ground. She hightailed it out of there and back to the resort. It was still gray out and she would no doubt wake up Lucas, but he would be happy to see her and even though her trip got cut short, it probably was for a good reason. Layla firmly believed in Karma. She smiled brightly and pulled the little guys out of her inner pockets and petted them, cooing and comforting them.
"See guys, this is your new home and I am your new mommy. Your daddy is pretty awesome and your older brother is a handful. I just know you will love them both, like I do. I'm sorry about your real mom, but you guys are in really good hands. And you appear to be twins, paternal even. Hmmm, how do you like the name Frick and Frack?" They both began to chitter and she took that as a good sign. She walked inside the resort, down t their room, pulled open their door. Set the new guys up in a box, put her ruck sack out on the balcony. Stripping her clothes too and putting them with her sack, just in case of bugs or snakes. She cleaned up, put on something simple and crawled into the bed. Putting her head on Lucas' back net to Iggy's. Her hair was wet and she was exhausted. Lucas woke up and boy was he glad to see her and the feeling was very much mutual.~FADE TO BLACK~
