Money is the root of all that kills
Last time Daphne had been to his flat, it had been about two steps above a dump. There were piles of clothes, dirty dishes, the bed was unmade and he'd spent a good half an hour bleeding all over things before she'd arrived. But, tonight he'd invited her for dinner, and tonight he'd make sure things were much better.
He cleaned up the kitchen, washed and put everything away, and used magic to really make the place shine, he then did the same to the small dining room and his bed. (It was all one room with a bathroom off to one side that was just wide enough for the tub to fit.) He set the table with a scented candle, laid a bunch of fresh-cut flowers (which he'd stolen) on her place setting, and then went about making dinner.
Miles didn't have a lot of money to spend, but if you made food from scratch you often didn't have to spent a lot. The pasta he made from flour, eggs and water--the sauce was fresh tomatoes, peppers, onions and garlic--all left to simmer for the day while he cleaned the place. He fried up some dry sausage, adding that to the mix as well and tossed a few rolls from the bakery downstairs into the oven to warm and soften them. Overall, he was rather impressed with his efforts, and hoped Daphne would be as well.
