Following a rather unexpected run-in with Mercy Macnair, a mutual friend of the family Ava parted ways to head toward Knockturn Alley. She made a point to keep her face down in order to avoid any eye contact with others who might notice her. Not to mention it was a given the Troll's Head was not a pub those in high society made a point of frequenting that often. Therein was the total appeal. Ava knew Millicent well enough to assume she didn't want any further connection with their parents in the near future, so rather than risk bumping in to more of their allies Ava arranged for a small, dimly lit table in the corner nearest the front door.
Although she had chosen the Troll's Head of her own accord, Ava couldn't deny it left the hairs on the back of her neck standing upright. The patrons were unmannerly at best, even this early in the afternoon. She asked for nothing more than a cup of blackberry tea, but when the server brought it to her table Ava discovered the china was not only chipped but dirty to boot. Using the end of her sleeve to wipe the brim of the cup, Ava finally resorted to avoid drinking the tea altogether. There was no telling what was in that brew anyway. Pretending to preoccupy herself with the tea she wasn't drinking, Ava sat in complete silence as she listened to a gaggle of hags nearby gossip about the recent muggleborn disappearances. They seemed amused more than concerned, and truthfully it left Ava to her own thoughts about the conversation she'd had earlier that afternoon with Mercy. Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to consider all the Death Eaters could offer her. Granted they wouldn't protect her daughter if they were aware of the truth, but she could always protect Elladora herself by having insider's knowledge on upcoming attacks.
Ava's thoughts were interrupted as she heard the dangling shrunken head by the door scream when the familiar young witch poked her head in. Rising almost immediately to greet her, Ava flicked her wand at the shrieking troll head. "I was beginning to think our parents had talked you in to staying," she mused softly, helping Millicent with her trunk as they edged closer to her table.
