It had been a little over a week since Caradoc Dearborn's birthday, and Ava was handling things as well as could be expected. Her sister had told her time and again any child would be fortunate to have her as a mother. Still the woman couldn't help but doubt Millicent's words. She had been the one to walk out on her daughter. It wasn't as if Caradoc had taken her from Ava, but rather she ditched their baby at his front door. At the time it was partly owing to immaturity, but also a means of preserving Caradoc and the baby. Had her parents received news that their daughter had conceived a half-blood's child it would mean bad news for all involved. The child likely wouldn't have made it out alive, which is a lot more than what would have been said for Caradoc. Needless to say Ava had been under the impression she had no other choice.
Here she was back in the United Kingdom, however, and not so much as a word had been exchanged between her and Caradoc since her return. She'd debated sending an anonymous owl on his birthday to ask for a run-in, but rather than risk the news of her return somehow circulating back to her parents she thought the better of it. If she had only known that no more than a week later a mutual friend would break the news to Mr. and Mrs. Bulstrode, Ava probably would have beaten him to the punch. All the same her parents seemed relieved Ava had returned and all too eager to have her involved in the high society life once more. Every attempt at pulling her in to the social atmosphere was counteracted with excuses, the most recent of which was her desire to help Millicent prepare for her final year at Hogwarts. For that very reason she found herself returning to Diagon Alley.
Before picking her sister up from the Troll's Head, however, she had to make a stop at Gringott's to transfer her funds over to her wizarding bank in Cumbria. Ava was forced to provide an additional form of identification considering her chicken scratch didn't match her former signatures, but after that no further hangups prevented her from completing the transaction. She tucked her quill back into a pocket in her salmon robes prior to pulling her cloak back over her head. Without much more than a forced smile, Ava turned abruptly to leave. It was then she bumped in to something rather unexpected, quite literally. Reaching out to catch the girl prior to knocking her over, Ava just as quickly retracted her grip. "My apologies but... Mercy, was it? Mercy Macnair?"
