Jimmy listened and his chest constricted until he had to swallow. It was all so... visceral. So personal to Alex. Jimmy squinted. He didn't have the words for it but he knew what he was trying to do was alter a person's faith. And that is impossible- even if Jimmy couldn't conceive the words to say it, he could taste the bitter truth of it on his tongue. He slumped more. He squinted and wanted to growl at each word that Alex uttered, like he somehow thought Jimmy wasn't believing him. Jimmy believed in him- or wanted to, but his reserves were low and his ideas spent.
He finally shook his head after a pause that he scarcely realized, his brain stuck in a loop. Alex was frantic and that roused him out of this deep divide of obsession- what had he said that Alex could possibly interpret as not believing? He reached over. He gave Alex a tug. His eyes shined with their liquid hint again. "Hey." He said with harsh sincerity. "I didn't ever say I don't believe you. How'd you even go there?" He screwed up his face. "I believe you. I know how horrible those people were. But you seem to think every girl and every Pureblood you meet is like them. All of them. And they're not." He shook his head, "You're not a liar." Then he raised an eyebrow and he knew Alex had gone pale, shaky and cold, "But... you're angry." Jimmy bit his lip, "And you're cruel to good people just because they're doing their jobs. And I know you're not acting out to break the rules."
Jimmy pushed off the rockface. "I can't help you alone. I'm just one lad..." He worried across his lip, "A lad that's mates with you, yeah. I-I really like you even though you do this shyte. But I can't keep pulling you out of the quicksand when you won't even try. And... maybe you don't know you're doing it. Or you think the whole world is full of quicksand, so this is... what it's all like. But you won't even trust me to show you another way through. You alienate everybody around you by lashing out. That's why nobody's around- even McGonagall. Because they're afraid you'll lash out. They don't know how to handle you." Jimmy shrugged and looked sad, "They're afraid of you. I don't know either, I just keep trying cuz I like you."
Jimmy shrugged again and reached over to try and finger out a hand. "You need help. To get by your fear. Let people show you what the real world's like. I-I can't do it, I don't know. Christ, I'm trying to figure it out too."
