Who: Percy Weasley, Marietta Edgecombe, NPC - Khakhua Tagoga Yauwii Dobunaba
When: Monday, September 5
Where: Ministry of Magic
What: Greeting the new Ambassador
Rating: Low
Open/Closed: Closed
It had pretty much been a hellish weekend and Percy wanted nothing more than to call in sick just to relax. The temptation was great and he could've simply told his assistant to take over, but today was too important a day to miss. Wearing his best robes, Percy waited beside Marietta with his hands held behind his back, memorizing the welcome speech he'd composed in Tok Pisin, the native language of the Ambassador of Papua New Guinea. He was fairly proud that he'd been able to learn the language as well as he had in such short of time, and how it would reflect well on his performance record that he'd taken the time to be so conscientious toward a new official. He glanced at his wristwatch and then at Marietta before returning his attention to the apparation point where they waited for the Ambassador's arrival. He had to admit, despite his initial reservations about having an assistant, Marietta proved to be most helpful making arrangements.
When the time came, a whirlwind blur of color and shapes appeared at the apparation point, which finally resolved into Ambassador Tagoga, wearing his full native dress, including a feathered hat and bright yellow face paint. Percy had seen photographs so he was not surprised, but seeing somebody wearing such an outfit in person was... interesting.
Smiling, Percy stepped forward to greet their esteemed guest, and recited, "[Khakhua Tagoga Yauwii Dobunaba, we are most pleased that you have come. I truly hope that your stay with me in England will fruitful for both our countries.]" Percy had meant to say 'stay with us", but it was a little slip on his part. "[I am Percy Weasley, Senior Assistant to the Minister of Magic, and this is my assistant, Marietta Edgecombe.]"
Percy's accent was a little off, and the word my and your sounded very much alike in Tok Pisin, so that Percy's final sentence came out sounding a bit like Percy was suggesting Marietta would be Togoga's assistant. Percy did not catch his own mistakes, but hoped that the Ambassador was pleased.
