WHO: Angelina and Toad, Verity and Toad
WHAT: Angelina give Toad “the talk.”
WHEN: (whenever we finish, not time sensitive) Breakfast times!
WHERE: Angelina’s houseboat! Kitchen!
Angelina stretched in bed trying to fight against her body waking up. She wanted to stay asleep, damnit! She didn’t have an early practice or anything. It was a bit fruitless though, especially when she could smell food cooking. So she rolled out of bed, not bothering to do much of anything but put shorts on since she slept in her tank top and knickers.
She yawned making her way to the kitchen and just seeing Verity’s bloke there. She went straight for the coffee maker and took a deep sip before finally speaking. “Morning. She still asleep?”
“Morning,” Toad greeted brightly, glancing away from the waffle maker he was working over. He nodded at her question as he slid over to flip the bacon he had sizzling in the pan. “I was going to wake her up in a minute,” he explained gesturing at the mug of tea he had sitting beside his own.
Well, since she was asleep.... Honestly it was better than sending him a journal message and having to meet him somewhere. She had things to discuss with him. “Hold off on that for a few.” She said grabbing a stool to sit on and setting her mug down with a light thunk. “You and I are going to have a conversation for a few minutes.”
“I...okay?” Toad poured a serving of batter in the waffle iron and dropped the lid before he turned toward and leaned against the counter. Picking up his mug he gave her a look of polite bemusement. “A conversation?”
“A conversation.” She reiterated. Although this might be less a conversation and more a threatening fun times conversations. She did smile at him, slightly, he seemed nice enough but she didn’t want to put him too much at ease. “I don’t know how much you know, but it’s been a while since Verity has taken a dip into the dating pool, and the last guy was fucking arsehole who deserves hot pokers to the face...”
Taking her smile at face value, Toad smiled back and even managed an awkward, slightly unsure chuckle at her hot pokers reference. “We’ve talked some,” he said, taking another sip. Zoey’s story had come out early on and he’d even shared, if not in great detail, his last spectacular relationship. “It’s hard to start dating again, I understand.”
She studied him curiously. She wasn’t exactly getting a frightened vibe yet from him. She figured anyone who knew her would have been uneasy at the mere statement, ‘You and I are you going to have a conversation.’ But he didn’t know her that well. She let her finger trail around the rim of her mug. “She likes you a lot.” She said seriously, small smiles for his ease no where to be seen. She didn’t say Verity was falling super hard and super fast that had implications. “A lot, a lot.”
Toad’s smile grew wide despite his wish to play at least a little cool. “I like her a lot a lot too.”
“I’m choosing to believe that.” She said sounding a bit faux sweet. She stood up from her stool and walked over right in front of him. “Because if I got the slightest inkling that you’re messing with her...” She trailed off the threat plain in her voice. “I know how I come across. Super laid back Angelina without a care in the world, but those two are special. She is one of my best friends and deserves all the happiness in the world. So just so you know, if you mess with her in anyway, I will mess you up. And I have a pair of Weasley twins to back me up not that I actually need it.” She leaned a bit closer. “And if Verity got to you first, I’d just mess with the little bits left over.” She eyed him for a moment and once she was sure it had sunk in she popped up to full height with a bright smile. “Now, I’m starving. Waffles are brilliant.” She complimented clapping him on the shoulder good naturedly as if she hadn’t just been trying to make him pee his pants.
Toad opened his mouth to say something but smartly shut it when she stepped in close, noticing the way her expression and tone darkened. “Hurting her is the last thing I want to do,” he assured her, nodding earnestly before his expression was wiped away for one of confusion when she perked up and mentioned the waffles. “Uh,” he blinked a couple of times before he remembered he had waffles cooking and waved his wand, summoning a plate for a few and dropped a couple pieces of bacon on it for her. “Waffles,” he said as he passed it over, trying to sound as chipper as she managed before he grabbed Verity’s tea and made the quickest escape to the safety of her room as he could.
Exhausted by a night well spent and getting up early to Floo Zoey to her day care, Verity didn’t wake up when Toad slipped out of bed, nor did she rise to consciousness when he pushed back in. When he climbed back into bed with her, wrapping his arms around her and kissing her, she woke, his closeness causing a wide smile to curl her lips. “Morning,” she croaked, her voice husky with lack of use.
“Morning,” he said, smiling warmly as he tugged her closer to him and kissed her. “Made you waffles.”
“I love... waffles,” Verity responded, snuggling close and arching up to kiss him. She glanced around him, spotting only the mug of tea on her nightstand. “And not to sound ungrateful,” she grinned and fell back onto the bed, affecting a spoiled tone. “But I only see tea.”
“Consider it a misguided attempt to get out of the bedroom for at least a few minutes,” he teased, leaning closer to her as she moved back. “It’s all in the kitchen still. With Angelina. She...” For a second his brow furrowed and he considered asking about her friend’s tendency to swing emotionally but quickly thought better. “She might have eaten it all by now, can’t say for sure.”
Nodding in response, Verity reached up and wrapped her arms around Toad’s neck, kissing him firmly. “She might’ve,” she grinned up at him, her smile freezing as she noticed his darkened expression. Reaching up, she smoothed her fingers across his furrowed brow, cocking her head to the side slightly. “Alright?”
“Mmhmm,” Toad nodded and settled back into the pillows, tugging Verity onto his chest. “I really like you, Ver,” he told her, giving her a soft kiss.
Verity’s smile was so wide her cheeks hurt and she cuddled against him, burying her face against his chest for a long moment before she could respond. “I like you, too, Toad,” she answered, moving to kiss him, unable to stop smiling. “I really like you.”
“Good,” he gave her another kiss before tugging her, signalling her it was probably time to get up. “C’mon, this batch was looking too good to let Angelina eat it all. And we can always come back after,” he added with a wink.
Slipping out of bed, Verity ducked and picked up his shirt from where he’d dropped it on the floor last night. She tugged it on, over a pair of knickers, moving slowly as she went, her smile slightly wicked. “What do you think?” she asked, giving a twirl and smoothing his shirt down over her stomach.
“Looks brilliant,” he chuckled, and rolled out of bed with only slight effort. “But then I’ll have no shirt?” He gestured toward himself and gave a small shrug. Angelina had already caught him shirtless before and he was thankful he’d at least had the sense to pull his trousers back on before starting breakfast.
Verity raised up on her toes and wrapped her arms around his neck to tug him down to her level so she could snog him properly. “I don’t mind,” she told him, knowing Ange wouldn’t either. “But, if you really want, I can take it off.”
Toad caught her around the waist and gave her a spin when she pulled away from the kiss, lifting her off the ground for a moment, just for the laugh it’d get. “I know my mum didn’t say it exactly but I’m sure being topless at the table breaks some manner rule. Not that I’d mind...”
Laughing happily as he picked her up, Verity twined her fingers through his when he set her down, her heart light. “Come on,” she said, flashing a mischievous grin up at him “The sooner we get this breakfast I’ve been promised, the sooner we can get back here.”
