Tony had to get this right.

The park at least was beautiful; the view from the hilltop was everything that he'd heard it was. He and Buck were near the top of the hill now, and Tony was working up the nerve for the next part of his plan. Perfect view... now all he had to do was manage to ask one simple question. Perfectly. No pressure.

He and Buck were great together. He'd never seen himself dating a schoolteacher, but in the end it didn't matter so much what Buck did as it mattered who he was, and who he was? Happened to pair just right with who Tony was, and he knew that he was never going to get this lucky again. He loved him, he was never happier than when he was with him, it was almost like it was meant to be. With one tiny problem...

Drawing the small box out of his pocket while Buck was distracted with the view, Tony sank to one knee. He snapped the box open, revealing a simple gold band inside. "Buck?"

Buck felt incredibly fortunate to have Tony in his life. After enduring a series of difficult relationships, he sensed immediately that meeting Tony was something special, something different.

As they made their way to the hilltop, the brisk air invigorated him, heightening his excitement to see the view he had heard so much about. Upon reaching the summit, he was captivated by the breathtaking landscape—the rolling hills bathed in the warm glow of the setting sun. So engrossed in the beauty around him, he didn’t even notice when Tony stepped away.

It wasn't until he heard his name softly called that he turned around. There was Tony, down on one knee, a luxurious velvet box in hand. Inside gleamed a delicate gold band, shimmering with promise. In that instant, time seemed to freeze as Buck’s heart raced, realizing the magnitude of the moment.

Okay, so far so good. He hadn't lost the ring, and Buck was looking right at him. The look on his face made it pretty clear that he knew exactly what was happening and Tony just had to... he just had to get the words out now, that was all. And then he had to get more, very important words out that would change Buck's life all over again.

"Buck, you make me so happy. I never thought I'd meet anyone who makes me feel the way that you do, but here you are. Here we are. And I'm trying not to be as big an idiot as usual..." Tony grinned; Buck was more than familiar with Tony's tendency to try to shortcut things in ways that typically ended in disaster. "And I'm trying not to let the best thing that's ever happened to me get away.

"Buck, will you marry me?" Tony found himself holding his breath, waiting for the answer. He thought... he was pretty sure that Buck felt the same way, but you could never be sure, right?

“Tony,” Buck whispered, his voice trembling with emotion as his heart raced in his chest, “you have no idea how long I’ve imagined this moment.” He took a step forward, closing the small distance that had felt like a vast chasm just moments before. Their gazes intertwined, each filled with a blend of hope and joy. “Yes, a thousand times yes! I’ll marry you!” he exclaimed, his voice breaking with happiness. In that instant, every moment spent wishing and dreaming culminated in the overwhelming realization that Tony was the brightest light in his life. It was as if the world had faded away, and all that remained was the warmth of Tony’s presence. Buck couldn't fathom a future without him by his side—Tony had transformed his life in ways he had never thought possible, and standing there, he felt an indescribable mix of gratitude and love that surged through him like a tidal wave.

Tony's face lit up with his grin; he took the ring out of its box and slipped it on Buck's finger. And that had been a task, making sure that it fit right. He'd had to be incredibly sneaky about figuring out his ring size and Tony still hadn't been sure that it would be right when it came to this exact moment, but the ring slipped onto Buck's finger as if it had been made for him specifically.

If Tony had wanted to, he could have gotten a ring that was made specifically for Buck. He could have pulled out all the stops, but that wasn't who he and Buck were. They were more... simple, together. Tony liked simple, liked it enough that he absolutely hated what had to come next.

"I love you so much, and I'm so excited to spend our life together, but... you might take that back in a second. I've been keeping a pretty big secret from you."

Buck watched as Tony took the ring out of the box and slipped it on his finger. He felt so giddy and happy and he never thought he would ever feel like this with somebody. But the universe had been kind and gave him Tony and he couldn't wait to spend the rest of his life with him.

"Oh?" Buck asked a bit confused. A secret? No, not a secret a pretty big secret. What could Tony have been keeping from him and why would it make him rethink spending his life with him? "What is it?" he was almost afraid to ask. God, he hoped it wasn't actually anything too serious.

It was... pretty serious, actually. Not in a bad way, not necessarily? At least Tony didn't think so... but it was pretty big.

"You know how I've always been sort of vague about the details of where I grew up, and about my family?" Tony had felt bad about that, he really had, but he'd figured it was better to be vague than to outright lie about them. "Well... I swear to god I'm not fucking with you... I'm a prince. It's not a big country or anything, nowhere you've probably heard of, but... yeah. Prince. Future king. And... before we get married, you have to meet my family."

"Yeah..." Buck said waiting to see what Tony would say next. He knew there had to be a reason why Tony had always been so vague about his childhood and his parents, but he never thought it would be anything too major. He also didn't think he would be hearing Tony say that either. At first, he wasn't even sure that he had heard what Tony said. Did he just say he was a prince? "Hahaha, you're kidding..." He saw the look on Tony's face and he wasn't kidding. "Oh, you really mean it." Okay, that was a big thing to take in. "Your family..." The thought of meeting them made him nervous. "Wait, okay, so if you're royalty...are they even going to allow us to get married? I mean, I'm not royalty or anything." He didn't want to lose Tony. He didn't want to imagine a life without him. But now he wondering and starting to overthink what could happen once he meets Tony's family.

"Hey, no, it's fine. It'll be fine." Tony tried to sound more confident about that one than he actually was, but he had a feeling he didn't completely pull it off. "They're going to love you once they get to know you, and like. That's all so outdated, don't you think, royalty only marrying royalty and all that? They're going to see it my way eventually."

And if they didn't, Tony would do whatever it took to make sure that he got to marry the man of his dreams anyway. Honestly, Lydia would be a better monarch than he ever would, it was probably more responsible to hand the whole thing over to her, right?

"Will it?" Buck wasn't so sure and it didn't sound like Tony was so sure of it either. "I hope you're right." He really did. With the new information about Tony, Buck felt a mix of excitement about getting married and nervousness about how his family would react to his relationship with Tony. "You aren't hiding any other big secrets from me, are you?"

"No! No, that's the last one, cross my heart." Tony had been pretty honest about everything else. Who he was, what he liked, that kind of thing, that was all exactly the same as before. It was just... where he came from that was a little different, that was all.

He wrapped his arms around Buck's waist and pulled him in for a quick kiss, just a brush of lips that was appropriate for the public setting. "I love you. And I can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together. No matter what my family has to say about it."
