The courtyard was one of Cat King's favorite places in the building that he called home; it was no abandoned warehouse, but his subjects in the city could find their way there easily enough anyway to air their various grievances to their monarch. That was really all that mattered for a place to hold court, in the end. He was stretched out in a patch of sun, black fur soaking up the rays and leaving his whole body pleasantly toasty as he waited to see if anyone else would be showing up that day.
Most of his neighbors still just saw a regular cat. Most of the time he didn't bother disillusioning them, unless he really had something that he needed to say... or unless they were Rapunzel. He didn't understand what it was about that one, but she was special. Most people? Weren't. Plain and simple.
Of course, Cat King was always happy to be pleasantly surprised.
Lazily, he licked a paw and dragged it over his face. The grooming was half-hearted, more habit than an actual desire to go through the motions. It was a quiet day and he was bored.
