I think there are copies of ourselves created the instant we're taken from our respective times. It explains how other people in our lives can have memories of us doing things or being around (or not around, in my case) when they're from further along our timeline, even if that timeline isn't technically linear, as is the case with my family.
Either way, Reggie is right. It's for the best not to look yourself up.
