To Pass AwayIt was less than easy, going up the many flights of stairs. That was not, however, surprising. God knew he wasn't young anymore. Of course, fifty wasn't really to be considered old either. But a bit of stiffness after sitting for several hours, even in one who kept his body conditioned, was to be expected. Especially when one considered the stresses he'd put it through, continued to put it through. But he continued to ascend the winding steps of the cathedral, determined to reach his goal.
It wasn't that he was afraid of dying or, really, growing old. What most worried him was that the end of his life would come in a way that was flat, meaningless. Somewhere inside he knew that he wished to die in a way such as to put an exclamation point at the end of the name Eberbach. To pass away without such an end...that was, perhaps, his fear: dying for no other reason than the end of his time in a hospital, slowly fading out.
He never revealed these thoughts to Dorian. He wouldn't understand. Or, Klaus thought, perhaps he would. Actually he was fairly certain the thief harbored the same wish somewhere beneath that mop of golden curls, still largely holding their color against the advancement of time. And that thought, that Dorian would wish some extravagant fantastic end while his beauty and strength still lasted, was perhaps the most terrifying thing of all. Klaus was prepared, had been prepared most of his life, to die fairly early and with a certain amount of violence. What he wasn't prepared for was knowing that his lover might wish to do the same.

So there it is. Eroica drabble. As a note to those who were suspecting it: yes, someone has died recently. No, it wasn't Dorian, Klaus, any one of the Alphabet, or one of Dorian's team. Just so you know.
