Notes When this community was started, challenges were issued on a regular basis. Various changes halted this, which is a shame because some very good fics and fan art resulted from them. The tags reflect a multitude of challenges, not all of which are from Castle Gloria, not that anyone is complaining. The links below are -- Left side is the tag link / Right side is the post issuing the challenge.

Notes: Okay, we haven't had a challenge in a long time, so I'm issuing one.

The 30 years of canon challenge.

In July 1977, the story "Iron Klaus" was published, introducing the world to the bad-tempered German NATO officer that we all know, and Dorian loves, Major Klaus Heinz von dem Eberbach. The challenge is to write a fic that in some way relates to a canon story. It can take place before, during, or after. OR even in the present. There are 30 years worth to play with.

I did mine. Tag, you're it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, there is no length requirement on this. And if you would rather do some fan art or a comic strip, please, do! Be creative!

Notes: Because I am a SHEEP!
Why, I do believe this is my first post here. Hm...

Because I am a sheep, and because I'm currently mourning the fact that I can't remember where I found a wonderful "Alphabets and Eroica team place bets on whether Dorian will ever screw Klaus" fic, (I have the link somewhere. If not, I think it's on this site so I'll manage...) I took a leaf out of mprice's book and issued a challenge.

Summary: Eroica has a varied - if frustrating/petrified/terrifying/annoying/etcetera - cast, and TONS of minor characters, few of whom get any screen time in fics.

The challenge: Write a fic/drabble that focuses on some of the more neglected characters.

Bonus Points For: Large quantities of alcohol, and/or conspiracies against (or just plain bitching about) the Major or the Earl.

Notes: I've just issued my first fic challenge on Fried-Potatoes.

SUMMARY:
What do we really know about the Major's father? We only see him in flashback, or hear conversations on the telephone.

This challenge: write a Papa Eberbach-centric story. Any time period.

For an added bonus, a Dorian meets Papa story!

Notes: Since this one is *cough* a bit late, we'll let it run until the end of May.

In honor of spring, I give you: The First Love Challenge.

Obviously it's easy to believe that Dorian could be Klaus' first love. But think outside the box a bit too. Maybe we're talking about G's first pair of high heels or Dorian's shepherd boy painting or the first time one of the alphabets got sent to Alaska and liked it there (I'm looking at you, S, and you know it). Let your imaginations fly!

Notes: Well, being February, it was either a Love Challenge or a Groundhog Challenge. *G* So now let's all come up with a challenge response (story or art or, heck, poetry! vids! filks! anything you like!) that involves some kind of love.

Extra points if you also work in a groundhog, though.

The challenge will run for the rest of February. As always, feel free to post non-challenge-related fic and artworks to the community!

Posted: Congratulations one and all on a great first year of Castle Gloria! In celebration, I offer the January Challenge: The New Year's Resolution Challenge. For this challenge you have two options:

1. Write a story (or create some art-- we haven't had any fan art yet!) exploring the theme of New Year's Resolutions.

2. Write a story (or finish writing the story you started) for one of the challenges that we had this year.

To refresh your memory, the challenges are:

December - The Giving Challenge
November - The Choices Challenge
October - The Halloween Challenge
August/September - The Packing Challenge
July - The Patriotism Challenge
June - The Correspondence Challenge
May - The Transportation Challenge

Also remember - Eroica volume 2 comes out in the U.S. on January 12!! Be sure to buy your copy (at your local comic shop if at all possible.)

Notes: The CG challenge for November is: The Choices Challenge.

As the US turns out in record numbers to decide our election (even as I speak! I mutter a prayer), the November challenge is all about choices. Eroica is a great fandom to explore this theme in... you could write for months just about Klaus, and the things he chooses, and the things he refuses to choose.

So have at it! Choices. Due by end of the month as always.

(btw, I have started a new job! hooray! Thank you for bearing with me while I was bitter and unemployed.)

Notes: In a brief admin note, I would like to apologize for the way I've left the community to fend for itself the last few weeks... I got laid off in RL and have been rather preoccupied. However, I shall still be here as much as I can.

That said, let's move to our next challenge, which shall run until the beginning of September.

THE PACKING CHALLENGE

The responses for this challenge should have something to do with packing. Packing suitcases, packing heat, meat packing... it's up to you! I look forward to seeing some fun responses for this one.

Notes: OK, I know I'm very late. And I never did finish my last story; sorry about that, guys. RL ambushed me.

However, it's just in time to get back on track with our next challenge.

July is a month of national holidays, it seems- Canada, France, Belgium and the US all have one. In honor of this, the next two weeks are going to be devoted to the Patriotism Challenge. All responses for this challenge should involve some sort of patriotism. You've got a lot of room here- after all, patriotism could cover everything from Klaus' devotion to Germany, to Dorian's position in England, to the "patriotism" exhibited by, say, the IRA. Write about fireworks, or holiday parties, or silk underwear printed with the Union Jack... the possibilities are endless!

Responses are due on Friday, July 16.

Now it's time to announce the next challenge: The Correspondence Challenge.

Your responses for this challenge should be about correspondence- either in the sense of similarities or the more common one of an exchange of letters. Does A write to his wife? Does Z have a pen pal? Is Bonham secretly addicted to Internet RPGs? Write us a story or draw us a picture! As always, please use the LJ-Cut for long, non-work-safe, or art responses.

Notes: And now it's time for the post we've all been waiting for... the first challenge!

Eroica as a fandom uses many different kinds of transportation. From trains to tanks to zeppelins, chances are it's figured in one of Dorian and Klaus' adventures. So now's your chance to use a form of transportation in a story or art.

Maybe James stows away on a cruise ship... Eroica pulls off a heist in a helicopter... Klaus goes undercover as a flight attendant... Agent G takes a ride in a horse-drawn carriage... Bonham visits the Air and Space Museum. Anything goes as long as some form of transportation is involved.

Responses are due two weeks from today, on May 31. Have fun!
