Just a man, waiting to see the son he hadn't been allowed to see in three years, and the last time he'd seen Johnathan had been under so much stress from his ex wife that she'd whisked him back away in her Buick. Now Johnathan was coming here, by his own volition, to stay for a while. Who knew why? John would have liked to think it was because of him, but he couldn't tell one way or another. He'd tried and tried, fighting courts and his ex wife's family so he could see Johnathan, but what John lacked was money and the former Mrs. Samantha Jacobs (now Mrs. Samantha Keller) had all the money in the world.
John sat outside on the bench just outside the book shop, smiling to himself. The sun had already gone down, but he liked the night fall, when all there was was the Cassadaga winds creating a cold breeze in the trees. The leaves sang and the warm hot chocolate from the vending machine that was now in a biodegradable cup, kept his hands warm. Really, he didn't ever drink the stuff when he did buy it. It just sat in the cup as a hand warmer and nothing else.
