WHO: Mitch Dorfman & Xo Valdez Munroe, with bonus Olly.
WHEN: Sunday July 1st.
WHERE: The Farmers Market.
SUMMARY: Xo thinks Mitch has a secret crush.
WARNINGS: None.
“Well hello there, mysterious stranger.” Xo cut across the row of the farmers market to fall into line with Mitch as she saw him start to walk by. Olly was perched on his mother's hip, pointing out vegetables. Xo could slip away for a bit to harass her second favorite bartender. “Keeper of secrets that I totally know.” The cocky grin that spread across Mitch’s features at the words mysterious and stranger was accompanied by a tiny wave toward the child on Xo’s hip. Mitch stopped, considering the next phrase with obvious confusion. “Keeper of secrets that you totally know …’ He repeated. “Is this some new game we’re playing?” Olly gave a little wave back before looking back over towards a very colorful fruit display. When Mitch stopped, Xo stopped to match, already giddy at the fact he was confused. “No, the one we were already playing. I know who your crush is.” “Ooooo, Mister Mitch has a crush?” Olly’s head swiveled back to look at the older man. “Mmmmhmmmm” Xo grinned. “And mommy knows who it is.” Any amusement at Olly’s words quickly turned to something else. “Oh do I?” He looked and sounded genuinely surprised. “How exciting, who is it?” “You dooooo.” Xo crooned, leaning her head towards Mitch for a moment before looking back at Olly. “Should I tell?” “Yes! Mommy I want to know!” Olly bounced against her hip as she laughed. Readjusting her grip on her son, she grinned up at Mitch. “Mister Mitch has a crush on Miss Wynnie!” she waggled her eyebrows playfully. Olly gasped, his hands going to his mouth. “I have a crush on Miss Wynnie too!” “Do you?” Mitch playfully gasped in response. “Oh no, Olly.” He shook his head sadly. “I don’t know what we’re going to do about that.” “Miss Wynnie’s too old for you.” Xo chastised her son playfully, poking at his belly with her free hand. He pouted, chin on her shoulder. “But she makes me cookies, mommy.” “She makes Mitch cookies too.” she looked over at the other man. “Lots of cookies I bet.” Cookies Sure, he wanted cookies. Mitch raised his eyebrows with an inquisitive look. “We’re just friends.” “Ahuh. Friends. That’s how it starts.” Xo looked at Olly. “Olly, Mister Mitch wants to date Miss Wynnie and he thinks lying about it to me will change that.” “Lying’s bad for you, Mister Mitch.” Olly leaned around his mother to look back at Mitch. “Is that what she told you?” Talking to the kid was easier. “That you would turn into Pinocchio or something if you lied?” “No I’m already a real boy!” Olly huffed. “Yes you are.” Xo smiled and nuzzled her nose against Olly’s cheek. “You can pretend all you want, Mitch, but I know the truth.” “You always know the truth, Xo.” Mitch shook his head. So, apparently he wasn’t doing a good job of hiding things. At least not when it came to this. Oh well, he’d adjust. “Yup. You want to kiss her.” Xo began to singsong, swaying playfully in front of him, going in a circle around him as she spoke. She took Olly’s hand, grinning as she pretended to dance. “He want to huuuug her. He want to daaate her. He want to smoooch her.” “Okay, okay Xo.” Enough of that. Mitch was off and moving once again, waving an overly cheery goodbye as he went. “You have a fun day, Olly!” “Running won’t change your love!” Xo called out after him. They both waved at the retreating man. “Olly-bear, you and mommy have to set them up on a date now.” The young boy nodded as he waved. “Mommy how do we do that?” “Oh I have plans.” she turned to head back to the strawberries. “I have plans.” |
