WHO: Clea & Megan WHEN: Tuesday June 19, evening WHERE: Clea & Tony's apartment SUMMARY: Dia-log: Megan confesses something to her best friend the cop. WARNINGS: I don't think there's anything?
"Clea, there's something I need to talk to you about. Privately."
“Okay….are you all right, Meg? You’re worrying me a little.”
"I'm fine-- actually, no I'm not. I'm not fine because I'm going to go crazy." A pause. "Can you be friend!Clea instead of cop!Clea for a few minutes?"
A frown. “You know I can’t make that promise without knowing what we’re talking about. Especially if it’s about the case.”
A nod. "It is. I just… I'm not sure what to do." A deep breath, then a rush of words. "The morning after the party, Camila asked if I could fix Moira's dress, it was torn and stained. She said it was from the movie wardrobe, and Moira wasn't supposed to have worn it, and she just wanted it fixed quickly and quietly to avoid another huge incident with Moira. So I spent all day fixing it, and I didn't even realize that Moira was missing until I was done. Camila came and picked it up, and I'm not sure if she took it back to wardrobe, but." Another pause. "I swear I had no idea she was missing when I fixed the dress. And when her body was found, I… panicked. She had been wearing that dress at the party and I fixed it and now she's dead and what if there was evidence and I destroyed it? And then I went last week to give my statement about the party, and that new cop, the blonde one, Rogers I think, she was just hounding me about Camila and I got flustered and I think she knows I wasn't telling her something but I couldn't." Another deep breath. "I don't know what to do."
“Ooooookay.” An exhale, a bit taken aback by the wealth of knowledge. “Camila has the dress?” Pause for confirmation. “Can you get it back? You need to turn it over to the police.”
A nod in response to the first question. "I don't know… I can ask her." A pause. "Would-- if Camila still had it, if she hadn't put it back in wardrobe, would you already have it?"
A more confident nod. An easy answer. “If it had been in her room, yes, we would have had it already. But it could still be useful to the investigation. We won’t know until we have it examined.”
"Okay. I can ask Camila where it is. If it's not already in evidence, I can ask her to turn it over." A pause. "Technically I lied to that other cop, I told her I wasn't hiding anything. Would- am I going to get in trouble over this?"
An exhale. “It’s not great, I’m not going to lie to you. But you can amend your statement, and I would suggest doing that sooner than later. You were stressed, it happens.” A pause. “I need you to be honest, one hundred percent, going forward, though, Meg. We all make mistakes, but this is a murder investigation, and withholding information like this could be construed as obstruction of justice if you don’t officially let a law enforcement officer know. And it shouldn’t be me, as your best friend.”
A nod. "I'll go in tomorrow morning. I'll see if I can maybe talk to Deputy Sheriff Wolfe? And I'll be completely honest, with everything." A pause. "I… I think I should probably leave tomorrow, too. Here, I mean. I can stay with my parents. I lied to a police officer, and now I'm staying with the two of you… I don't want any of this to blow back on you."
“I appreciate that…. I’m sorry. I feel like I’m kicking you out.” A worried grimace.
"It's not kicking me out if I'm offering to leave. I'll be fine."
“Okay. Well. Be safe. Thank you for telling me. About all of this.”
"I'm sorry I didn't say anything sooner. I just… panicked."
