Students, given that there have been some suggestions that more focus be put on Defense Against the Dark Arts, I have decided to change up my teaching style a little. As I'm sure you can imagine, teamwork is important for group safety in times of trouble, and I am hoping to foster this notion. As such, I am going to be assigning a group assignment to each of my classes, 5th year and up, which will culminate in a presentation to the class. More details will be discussed in upcoming classes this week, but start to think of potential topics. They will have to be approved by me, but I am hoping to give you a little freedom. This means that you will be able to choose your partners, so long as you are responsible about it. You will be given some class time to work on this, but you will also need to arrange time outside of class.

As always, I will be here to help you with any problems that may arise or to answer any questions you may have.

January 16th, 2016 - Midday

Well, it would seem I've come back to Hogwarts just in time to get to attend the Faculty Mixer and help with the Winter Formal the Bureau is putting on for the students. A little warning from a certain individual that either of those were happening would have been a little nice, but of course best friends can't be relied upon to actually keep you abreast of any situation you might need to know about - especially when they have such a history of being so reliable, as this particular one I've been blessed with.

For those of you wondering, I am your new History of Magic professor. My name is Mary Margaret Blanchard and I would prefer if you referred to me as either simply Mary Margaret or Ms. Blanchard - which ever makes you feel more comfortable. If you have any thoughts of thinking your last assignment from Professor Q is no longer expected - think again, I hope you all didn't take his recall to the Bureau as a thought of slacking off. If you have any questions at all or concerns - feel free to pop by my office, I should be available most of the weekend while I'm unpacking.

January 16th, after diner hours

16 inches of parchment. I measured it perfectly. I have found that I've become very good at predicting sentence structure in such a way that I've made a perfect allotment of space in my last three essays for History of Magic. There is something just so soothing about hitting a mark right on the dot, perfection in the end. I also realized precisely what was wrong with my last Ancient Runes translation for class and I'm very disappointed in myself for not picking up on such a simple, and rather silly, mistake. Dreadfully disappointing. This, for lack of a better word for it, guilty feeling towards missing the mistake has distracted me much too much from thinking about possible interning opportunities next summer. It is already half way through January and if I am to have any hope of making an impression with the BMA this early on, I need to put some serious thought and work into procuring myself an opportunity.

I find it interesting that the BMA has sanctioned our winter formal, though I am quite pleased about the opportunity. I will, of course, have to pester Rhi into helping me with a dress fitting but overall I think it will be an appropriate way for students to interact and let off a little steam in what I can only imagine has been a stressful time for many. I am not sure I precisely agree with the level of excitement from certain parties, but I certainly am not lacking in ability to see the appeal or wholly disagree with the excitement.
