PLOT #1
During the dust storm a small number of female characters will go missing (let us know in the comments if you’d like it to be one of yours). This may not register to the other characters until everyone has regrouped outside of Enid though. Most characters will be in for a rough night on Monday, as both the winds and the prospect of everyone filtering back on the morrow mean that there’s little point in setting things up. They’ll set up the cook house as a communal sleeper as they often do on the road, but people are welcome to crash in cars, trucks and trailers as well. There will be more dust than usual. (An FYI - people often hung damp sheets up over doors/windows in an effort to stop some of the dust getting through.) When the missing ladies don’t show up on Tuesday they’ll (hopefully) decide to send some people out to search for them. Another night in cramped conditions and more missing women will see the decision come down from Management to begin setting up outside Enid, so Wednesday will be setting up the back lot and searching and Thursday will be setting up the main lot and searching. They’ll run a (progressively) stunted show so as to not arouse too much suspicion by being there, but more female characters will go missing as the week goes by. So if your ladies go out in a search party or into town or just a ways from the lot, they might find themselves called. Lured away to the town of Bathsheba. Male characters, without the lure, will have trouble finding it. Meanwhile in Bathsheba.. the women will be enjoying their new provincial life. In fact, they’ll all find that it’s everything they’ve ever wanted. Even if they felt it was precisely everything they never wanted previously. Looking after crops, animals, their homes and each other. They won’t want to leave and will react violently to any intrusion by the men. So hopefully the men can work out a way to get them back, after that revelation, that doesn't involve too many injuries.. there’s more info in the FAQ about what's affecting the women and other things (this was a much bigger wall of text so we decided to snip it and cover it in the FAQ). Start Date: Monday September 16th End Date: Sunday September 29th (or earlier) |
Sirens? But they’re nowhere near water! Yeah. Think of them more as ..land sirens. Who aren’t there so much to lure your characters into the dusty depths (although they might if your character goes missing during the storm) but more to lure your women to their utopia - the town of Bathsheba. So, no, they’re not really sirens at all.. c.c Women? Utopia? Bathsheba? The mysterious town of Bathsheba is said to lie somewhere between Perry and Enid, OK. Its exact location is unknown, however, and there seems to be only one real account of its existence. It was said to have been set up as a utopia for women. Men were not allowed in the town and were met with hostility if they happened by. Bathsheba has fallen into the folklore of the region and its existence is disputed.. until now. ;) So they’re stealing our women? Essentially. They're being lured there and, once there, they find that it's all they've ever wanted. Even if it's precisely everything they've never wanted. A town full of women tending to their crops, their animals, each other and the town. Only the women will be affected by the.. this is perfect mind business. They won't want to leave and will resist attempts by others to make them. Men are resistant to the mind business, but they won't have the lure and will therefore have to find Bathsheba the old fashioned way. By looking for it. I have a female character, does she have to end up there? No, she doesn’t. It may be best she doesn’t stray too far from the carnival in that case though. ;) When will characters start turning up in Bathsheba? From the dust storm onwards. We would like a few to go missing during it, so if you’d be up for that with your character let us know in the comments. But they can go in dribs and drabs after that. What’s it like there? The town itself is just a row of houses, a couple of big farm houses, stables, barns and fields (which are going quite well, all things considered). There are mares, cows, hens and bitches, and some other women living there already. What happens there? Not unlike the carnival, your character will be put to work. Tending to the fields and the animals, collecting and preparing produce, completing household chores, etc.. Not to mention, enjoying every minute of it. If your character winds up there feel free to have them chat with the other ladies, while milking a cow or churning the butter, about how perfect Bathsheba is and how they want nothing more from life than to live and die there. No reliance on anywhere else, no men.. So what do male(/non-missing female) characters do? Hopefully realise the women are missing. ;) They will set up the back lot on Wednesday and the carnival lot on Thursday after it’s clear that the missing women are missing.. and that more are going the same way. They don’t want to draw too much attention to their continued presence in Enid in a negative way, and a carnival putting on a carnival certainly makes more sense. Feel free to have your male character (esp. roughies and rousties) fill in for some of the jobs of the missing female characters. Organising search and rescue parties around the (progressively) stunted carnival timetable is highly recommended, though they’re welcome to find other things in their search as well, like illegal hooch operations, abandoned homes, occupied homes, etc.. What happens if/when they find Bathsheba? They will be met with hostility, both from the handful of women that were already there and the lured female characters. The male characters may find that they have to return to the carnival and reassess the situation. (Though we’d love it if the rescue efforts involved some kick ass ladies kicking some ass.. even if it is detrimental to their cause overall. ;) The women do have access to shotguns.. but hopefully no one will get too hurt trying to get them back. What’s controlling the women? One of the women there in particular. We’ll call her the Matron. She was a woman like any other, and a woman scorned. Bathsheba was founded with honest intentions. But something changed.. she’s not really who she was anymore. She can affect the consciousness of those women around her. Sort of.. touch them and make them feel happy, safe and content. It’s not really magic nor is it demonic, so your magical types probably won’t be able to scry for it and your demon hunter types probably won’t be able to sense it. It’s definitely otherworldly though. How will the women get out of there then? We’ll let the characters dictate that. Whether some men sneak in and kidnap some women back, or whether they work out that the Matron is in charge and the ‘cause’ and take care of her, or if they find a way to counteract the mind business.. or some combination of these or other things. We’re certainly up for this being discussed amongst.. everyone and seeing which way things go and who would be involved, etc.. :) When will they get out? We don’t have a definitive timeline for the plot other than everyone has to be back by the 29th so they can pack up and leave. But we would like for there to be some time between people going missing and being found, although with a carnival needing to be set up and run (with numbers down) they won’t have as much time as they’d like to search, so that might not be a problem. ;) If we feel things do need a move on, though, we’ll push them in that direction as well. Can they take the animals with them? Yes, they can! I have a question! Go ahead! Asking in the comments is fine. Hey, what about those journals we voted on? We haven’t forgotten! In the end there were more overall votes for journals (though we’ll keep notes and conversations) and we’ve figured a way to work them in as part of the ‘aftermath’ of this plot. Basically, Management will issue them to those that want them as a measure to ensure that people can remain in touch on the off chance they’re kidnapped again. Obviously he thinks there is a chance that may happen again. ;) So, yes. They’re coming and we’ll update with more info on them as we reach the end of this plot/fortnight. |
