He smiled at that. Not you. He wondered if her assessment would change. It was a little early to be sure of his plans but he expected he would find out soon where the best direction was.
She was smart. He was wrong about her but she seemed to know why he thought it. It was more interesting than pure confusion but he was disappointed both in his mistake and in the fact she was merely a human and using that terrible expression along with it. Other half? It was very hard not to snort. Deucalion was sure he was complete as he is with power as the only thing he lacked. He was not yet at the advantage, though, so he held himself in check. If she was a friend to his kind it wouldn't do to turn her against him so soon. Perhaps he never would. Who knew how some things would play out?
"Not one of but close to," he said politely, hiding his disgust at the idea of letting someone that close as much as letting a human that close. Hard to be too precious about distinctions when you didn't trust anyone. "I see." He wanted to ask more but a mate would be reluctant to give up much. His eyelid twitched behind his glasses. "He's not here. I am sorry for your loss." His voice was gentle, it sounded almost sincere but there was an edge to it. He was holding back. His words were all placed so carefully. "I find myself alone too." Those words were careful too but for a different reason but his introspective demeanor dropped after a moment.
