Dirt could be so annoying. Amy hadn’t realized this prior to joining the carnival. She could remember getting dirty as a child. Getting grass stains on the knees of her jeans, getting mud under her fingernails if she’d been playing outside with reckless abandon that day, but she’d never experienced dirt like this before. It seemed to get everywhere out here and she hated it. If there was anything the carnival did for her it was make her truly appreciate modern showers. The consistently hot water, the glorious water pressure, and at least at her house she had all of the big, fluffy towels she could ever want. The showers here always seemed to leave something behind.
Amy tried to clean herself as quickly as possible, getting all of the nooks and crannies that dirt seemed to find with her small towel. Once she felt reasonably clean, she towel-dried her hair and slipped back into her clothes.
Out of all of her friends, Amy had probably been the least girly, still she found herself missing makeup along with modern showers. She’d considered asking around, maybe just to borrow a lipstick for the show, but she didn’t really know any of the girls well enough to be snagging makeup from them. She sighed and promised herself that once she knew someone with access she’d see about asking them where they’d gotten their makeup. Maybe by then she’d have accumulated enough earnings to buy something of her own.
Carrying her hygiene kit with her, she took a route she knew would lead her back to her housecar perhaps not as quick as the others, but she felt like taking in the atmosphere. Even if said atmosphere was slightly dirty and unfriendly. She rounded a corner with a little less caution than she perhaps should have been using and collided with another person, causing her to jump a little in surprise and nearly winding up dropping her belongings.
“Oh, jesus,” She said mostly to herself, laughing a little from nerves.
