Tutorial: How to Post Icons to an Icon Journal or Personal Journal Tutorial on How to Post Icons to Your Icon Journal or Personal Journal
I did this tutorial for a friend who is just getting started with icon making, but then thought it might be useful for anyone else just getting started. If people are interested I can also write one about creating an icon journal, though that's covered in the LJ FAQs.
Uploading and Posting Your Icons:
Step 1: Create Beeyootiful Icons :) Save them as gifs, pngs or jpgs.
Step 2: Upload those icons to photobucket (or some other image hosting site).
Step 4: Scroll down to the part on the page that says: Icon Template Reader and HTML Code Generator
Step 5: Type the number of icons you are posting minus one into the "Add how many fields?" box. You want it to be minus one because there is already one box provided for you (see?)
Step 6: copy the URLs from your icons in photobucket and paste them into the blanks in the table generator.
Step 7: Decide if you want a credit tag for the icon table or not and check that circle (radio button).
Step 8: click on Generate Code. This will take you to a page with a big text box. Copy the code in the box.
Step 9: Go to http://www.livejournal.com/update.bml (the update journal page) Be sure to CHANGE THE JOURNAL You're POSTING TO! Paste your code in there and post it to the journal!!
-OR-
Alternate Step 9: Open up your LJ Client, change the journal it posts to, and paste your code in there.
Step 2: Click on the download link that says for [only for NT/2k/XP]. The download should automatically start.
Step 3: Once the file has finished downloading double click on it and click through the install process.
Step 4: Once it has installed double click on the desktop icon to open the program. Type your user name and password into the appropriate boxes, click login, and an updatey window like thing should open.
Step 5: Post!!
Formatting an Icon Post to LJ
When I post Icons I like to include a few things: My name, what my crediting policy is, where to find my other icons, and things like that. SO: my posts generally look like this:
Title: (Fandom) Icons (stick in Utena, or Battle Angel, whatever you're posting)
Body:
10 Utena Icons
Icons are free to use for anyone. Please credit < lj user = "your username here " > or < lj user = " your icon journal here " >. No hotlinking please.
HERE IS WHERE THE CODE GOES FROM THE ICON TABLE SITE
< / lj - cut >
(optional bit if the icons are part of a set) Find the rest of my < a href= "http:// Livejournal post where you've got the whole set"> Series Icons Here< /a >
This part is SO easy. On the update page or in your client there should be text entry box/field that says "Tags" I simply tag my icons with the series that they're from and what challenge they might be for.
Example: "utena, 100_challenge" or "gundam wing" or "FAKE, iconfiend100"
You may then browse through them in your tag list page, some journal styles include a tags list right on your journal.
Adding posts to Memories:
Step 1: Click on the little heart icon that appears on your posts after you've posted them.
Step 2: In the description box type in a description of the post (shorter is better). Type in some keywords, I would recommend using what you would have tagged them with (separated by commas).
