QUIDDITCH: Gryffindor vs. Slytherin
GRYFFINDOR |
SLYTHERIN | |
The first match of the year had an unusual amount of buzz surrounding the match, because of the fact that it was between reigning champions Gryffindor and their number one rival, Slytherin. Much speculation of the match had been made earlier on, including which team had the best chance to win, how Gryffindor would fare with almost an entirely new team, and how Slytherin could bounce back after not making it to the finals in the previous year, among other things. The weather forecast was not a bad one -- sunny with a chance of clouds, but one thing was apparent: there was an obvious brisk and chilliness in the air. The match was scheduled to begin at exactly 11AM, though students were free to assemble in the Quidditch stands much earlier than that. And some students did just that, hoping to get a good seat for the match. In the midst of reserving a bunch of seats for their friends, VOLUNTEER 1 got into a heated argument with VOLUNTEER 2 over why they're saving all these seats, which resulted in the both of them getting kicked out for the remainder of the match by Professor McGonagall, who promptly assigned them both detentions on Sunday (cleaning up the trophy room and polishing the trophies, by hand). Both of them lost twenty points each from their respective houses for behaving like uncouth children. On the opposite side of the pitch, VOLUNTEER 3 accidentally set fire to one of the Gryffindor banners, which they try to put it away as quickly as they possibly can, though it ended up with half of the banner burning off. Fortunately, the people around them realised that this was done on accident, and there weren't many Gryffindors glaring daggers at them. Thankfully! Barring these two instances, the match started as scheduled, at 11AM. Team Slytherin walked out first, lead by Captain Maxfield Urquhart and followed by the rest of the team. This caused a great deal of cheer and enthusiasm from the Slytherin stands, though the Gryffindors returned the favour by booing them. Team Gryffindor followed suit, lead by Captain Demelza Robins and followed by the rest of the team. Subsequently, the Gryffindor stands erupted into cheers, while the Slytherins booed them. Madam Hooch reminded both captains of the rules: no foul play and fair play, and made them both shake their hands before she blew the whistle, signaling the beginning of the match. For the first five minutes of the game, it almost seemed as though the players were familiarizing themselves with the surroundings and trying to read the opposition's moves, but Chaser Graham Pritchard had had enough of the stalling, and made stride in the match by making the first goal of the match, much to Keeper Seamus Finnigan's dismay. Not to be outdone, Chaser Ginny Weasley helped Gryffindor rebound not within two minutes of Slytherin's goal by making a goal of her own, very quickly followed by Chaser Rachel Goldstein's goal, though she had to do some swift moves to get away from the bludgers that Beaters Vincent Crabbe and Gregory Goyle had sent her way, though one of the bludgers ended up damaging her broomstick slightly. Always good at passing the quaffle with her teammates, Chaser Demelza Robins kept the quaffle from getting in the hands of the opposition by playing a well-calculated move with both Chasers Ginny Weasley and Rachel Goldstein that allowed them to get to the goal without much difficulty. However, Keeper Dimitry Avery was ready for it this time around, and he swiftly blocked the goal, sending the quaffle to the other side of the pitch, to Chaser Maxfield Urquhart's hand, which allowed him to score rather quickly. Not wanting his captain to take all the glory, Chaser Dylan Vaisey scored the next goal, which then allowed Beater Geoffrey Hooper, who had been having a relatively quiet match thus far, to seize the perfect opportunity to send a bludger at Dylan Vaisey. This caused Dylan Vaisey's broomstick to spin out of control, and he ended up colliding with OPAL BURKE in the stands, and couldn't go back in the field. Dylan Vaisey broke his nose in the process, while OPAL BURKE knocked out backwards and suffered some minor bruising. MEGAN JONES was kind enough to escort the both of them to the Infirmary. Slytherin then played one Chaser down for the remainder of the match. For the next half an hour, Slytherin's Chasers dominated the match, making six goals in that time span, evenly split between Maxfield Urquhart and Graham Pritchard. But Gryffindor recovered quickly, making five successive goals (Rachel Goldstein scored two, Demelza Robins scored two and Ginny Weasley scored one) without much interruption from the Slytherin beaters. Graham Pritchard scored two more goals, though this time, Ritchie Coote sent a bludger at him, which missed and instead hit Seeker Russell Harper as he was focused on finding the snitch. Russell Harper was fine, though he did yell at Ritchie Coote for being an incompetent idiot. This prompted Geoffrey Hooper to send a bludger aimed at Russell Harper's head, though he was lucky enough to escape that. Ginny Weasley, with a keen ability to sense the weakness of the opposition, realised that Dimitry Avery was having some trouble with recognizing the actions of the Chasers. Taking a risk, Ginny Weasley decided to pull off feinting, which worked in her favour, as she got the next goal, though it caused Dimitry Avery to grumble to himself. The next half an hour was spent trying to level out the scorecard, with Gryffindor trailing behind (though just barely). At this point of the match, the score was 80 (Gryffindor) to 110 (Slytherin). After a quick few goals from both Gryffindor and Slytherin, the scores were leveled at 130 each. While Seekers Russell Harper and Paige O'Malley were trying to find the snitch before the other, Maxfield Urquhart and Graham Pritchard scored the last four goals of the match. Paige O'Malley was the first one to spot the snitch, but once she had started to race off trying to catch it, Russell Harper followed suit, in pursuit of the same thing. It wasn't very easy to capture the snitch, with all four Beaters sending the bludgers towards the opposing seeker. Gregory Goyle was the one with the iron arm in this instance, since it was the bludger sent by him that sent Paige O'Malley colliding into a nearby pole. Russell Harper caught the snitch seconds later, causing Slytherin fans to erupt with joy. | ||
