Hello

I've been lurking here all month so I thought it might be time to introduce myself. I am a 36 year old mom and have been married for 5 years. I am an ordained High Priestess of Wicca and I have been reading the tarot for 24 years. I actually still have the deck I first purchased when I was 13. I still use that deck though I have experimented with others. I have been reading professionally off and on for about 5 years as well. I am the owner of Temperance Tarot (www.temperancetarot.com) and I'm a full time student persuing a Bachelor's of Science in Information Systems Security.

I have read the tarot at parties, Pagan Pride events, fund raisers, and other community events. I would say that the most difficult place I have ever met with clients was a night club. The music is loud and while I had done 5 readings, I nearly lost my voice trying to make myself heard over the music. :)

Make your voice heard =)

[info]cafe_tarot is certainly a casual community, but I've been thinking that it needs a weekly or bi-weekly feature to attract more members and get activity.

What would you like to see? A tarot card of the week? Other discussions (on the cards, books related to Tarot, myths and traditions of Tarot, etc.) to take place once per week? A post set up for reading exchanges every so often?

I'd love to hear any and all suggestions! <3

Maintainer finally checking back in xD

Hello everyone, this is the maintainer of Cafe_Tarot, Arcana, and I need to apologize for starting this community and then taking a very long hiatus without checking in or making comments to the posts. I hope to make up for that by working to get this community more active, to be more active in it myself, and to advertise for more members.

As a thank you to those who have joined, I would like to offer free Tarot readings to the first four people who comment and ask for a reading. You can check out the decks that I own on my profile.

Thank you!

-Arcana

Edit: Two reading slots are still available~

Fannish tarot

Earlier this year at Redemption I did a round of "fannish Tarot" in the Saturday afternoon Zocala. It was fun - mostly I'm afraid when done with people who took the same completely frivolous approach to Tarot reading that I did.

In preparation for the Zocala I'd written up some notes on what the different cards and suits and Trumps of the Tarot could mean in a fannish context. Would this be okay to post here? I'd appreciate discussion/feedback.

I fully admit to being unserious about Tarot, but it's not a joke - I recognise it as an interesting/sometimes amusing way of making stories out of the cards and the experience of the person for whom you're doing the reading.

Hey!
I'm sort of a tarot amateur. I still need to use a book to figure out the meaning of my cards. I usually end up doing 5 card relationship spreads or I do the Celtic Cross, if I want to get a general overview of life.
I prefer a quiet environment-music wavers my concentration.
No rituals or cleansing for me though (too much work in my opinion).
I'm still trying to grasp what exactly the cards mean though, so I tend to not take my readings very seriously, since I'm not a 100% sure what they mean.
I usually do them on a flat surface. If I have a table large enough to spread the deck out in a moon shape, I do it on the table.
If I don't I do it on my bed. NEVER on the floor, I think it's disrespectful.
I used to sleep with my cards under my pillow to see if I'd have interesting dreams. I did.

Welcome~!

Welcome to the community! Feel free to join and start posting discussions.

Let's get rolling!

~

What is your reading style?

Do you do something before you begin a reading, like a ritual or cleansing? Do you play music or do you prefer quiet? Where do you read? Do you have any extra tools, and if so, what are they? How about reading for yourself exclusively, for others only, or do you do a mix of both? Is the Celtic Cross in your arsonal of spreads, or do you create your own? And of course, do you read with those dreaded/delightful reversals?

Just in general, what do you do and why?
