dilute the madness (sleeping tiger, nieve)
That was way too fucking crazy for anyone to be alright with it. The problem was, of course, that all of them had been too shocked not only by the fact that Gola had been wounded, actually wounded, but that his arm had got up and crawled off on it's own accord, at his fucking bidding. Eithne had stood beside Eragos and taken on a dragon but that took the fucking cake on crazy things she'd seen. Of course, that didn't mean Eithne felt wide eyed or horrified, actually, she felt more subdued than she normally would. The anger wasn't a storm on the sea anymore, it was all calm waters. It was because of all the death, all of that for.. for this to happen. Arand was dead. Grees was dead. She was sad about those deaths. Tirad was dead but Eithne wasn't sad about that. She wasn't particularly happy about it either but it was already accepted in her mind. She felt shame over the fact that she'd been the one to do it, to betray their trust just as he had by going behind their backs. But that was further from her mind. All she had on her mind was getting a drink, two, three, really more like as much as she could consume without passing out or forgetting everything.
First she needed to see a healer.
It wasn't smart to go from one battle right into the next. It was equally dumb of her to have gotten that close to Gola in the first place. All of them had tried to take him down in normal measures. The man could be cut, hacked away, but did not bleed. It didn't affect him. She'd already nearly bled herself dry in one battle, then turned around and nearly had the same damn thing happen to her. If she could have yelled a warning to Nieve, or even to Vera, she would have. But the magic had worked. It'd worked! Somewhere she was glad she knew. Glad that.. not happy. But they knew. But the cost of knowing was.. she didn't like Arand in the way the others did. He knew things without being told, but she felt a distant sadness over the loss. What hope was there now of bringing anyone to trial? She should have just grabbed his arm and dragged him out no matter what Vera had said. Gola had been right there. Right there!
She was staring at Bahn. Her Uniform discarded, mainly, and the wrappings which all women riders wore under it burned and cut in places but she was staring at him as if he were the devil that did this. Every pale scar on her arms, on her shoulders, she knew they were there. He was focused, of course, on the hand print there. Burned into her skin. Made of the most painful blister she'd ever felt in her whole time of being a fire mage. It was excruciating how much it hurt. But she had an angry stare, and an angry face to match. She was uncomfortable, in other words.
"If you touch my.."
"I'm a healer, Eithne, I see people without their clothes all of the time."
"You can do this without me taking anything else off."
It wasn't as if she were a virgin, or even a blushing girl who didn't want a man seeing her. It was that she simply wasn't comfortable with just anyone getting to know her more private parts by sight or touch unless she gave her permission to do so. Healer or not, Eithne had been through enough lately and didn't feel like letting another person tear through her clothes and poke at her wounds. Nor was she about to give Bahn a reason to make a joke, or try to make her smile. This was going to be professional and done quickly. Nieve had already been seen to. Hasna was in the care of two different healers. It was her turn and she wanted to get out of this corridor and find a nice cool bath, some new clothes, and then whatever backwater trashy bar was still together after all of this madness.
"Done." Bahn pulled back quickly and seemed to find the ceiling way more interesting after that.
"Finally." She said quickly, hopping down off the table she'd been situated on. "I mean.. Thanks." She dropped her hand onto his shoulder, but it was just as quickly gone. "Lets never speak of this again."
"Speak of what?"
Eithne pulled on the loose shirt and left them like that. She'd mentioned her plans to Nieve before they'd come to see Bahn. Nieve seemed as eager as Eithne to get out of this place and somewhere else. Just for a few hours. Just to let everything settle down. Eithne would have invited Vera, but she didn't really want to look the woman in the face, much less ask her out for a drink. Vera was taking Arand's death... as could be expected. She could remember a time when she'd let out such a noise, but it hadn't been anything just like that. Nothing close. But she drew the obvious conclusion to her inquiry, that'd be a no. Not everyone was going to look at the bottom of a bottle for an answer to madness and sadness. It took a certain breed, not that Nieve was anything like Eithne either, but the woman had been through that fight with the monster too and Eithne owed her the invitation at least for distracting Gola long enough for that fireball to do it's work.
Of course, that's when she'd seen Sleeping Tiger leaning against a wall. She'd nodded to him before disappearing off into her room. An hour she'd told Nieve. An hour was taken. Clean as she could be, though she had a suspicion nothing was going to get the ash out of her hair, let alone the blood off her hands. The clothes she wore were not her uniform. Eithne wanted to be somewhere without it now. The falchion was left on her bed, but she brought her gloves out of habit. Tucked into her belt. She left the manor with Nieve, and went out into what was left of this city. The first establishment that actually had any liquor left they found themselves in. Strange that it'd been here that she'd thought of Tirad doing any of this. Strange that Eragos had caused her to think Tirad was the one.
Stranger that she hadn't gone looking for him first. She should have. he should have sought him out. Vera had mentioned that she'd told Eragos that they'd find her after the fire. They had, of course. By now someone would have told him she'd survived her first meeting with Gola. With nearly flying colors. She wondered how they'd get the bronze off the floor, let alone all of the blood.
Once they were inside and situated at a table Sleeping Tiger made himself known by dropping into the free chair at their table. Eithne rolled her eyes up into her head. But with a heavy hand she signaled for a wench, or a waitress. Whatever they called them here. She wanted to drown in drink and now. She looked at Sleeping Tiger after that was done with a cigarette already in her hand she pointed at him and squinted one eye.
"Do you always sneak up on people?" She put the cigarette into her mouth and with a match she scraped across to light it, she lit the end of her cigarette.
"You're more than welcome to stay, of course."
