lacking something (fenrir)
It was strange to have Fenrir here, and yet not here. He wasn't here really for them, but he was here for the challenge. She'd read rumors of his death during the breaking and in the troubled times afterwards. But to believe them, part of her had, he hadn't been seen in what felt like years, but the man was so unstoppable. Death never found him, he beat anything he set his mind to it. A good ally, but he wasn't an ally to anyone but what he fancied for the moment. Alvir was off training in his own private quarters with a man that they'd known since they were children. But that didn't keep Ceannah from worrying about it. They had servants everywhere that knew to alert her if something seemed amiss but who to trust.
She couldn't even trust Fenrir. She couldn't trust their servants or their family. She couldn't trust soldiers sworn to the Coat of Arms, or to Polas himself. It was a bad place to be. Not to mention her meeting with Lord Banning had been as boring as she'd feared it would be. While Banning was attractive for his age, and held many titles and his own Land that, should Alvir live, would keep her happy. There was always something missing from someone like him. Something that had been touched inside of her years ago which would never be happy with someone like Banning.
That didn't mean that he was out of the picture.
But it meant that she needed to seriously consider abandoning hope for something more. Banning was one of the higher names on the list that her mother had sent to her. Banning was well educated, he was smart, without being pompous. But he didn't have fire, he lacked skill in debate, and he just didn't.. didn't even come close to her hopes. It wasn't that she wanted to fall in love. A foolish thing for anyone to want. Love lived and then died as swiftly as it'd come it'd be gone. She didn't want love. She didn't desire love. But she needed something else, a fire. She'd need children which would bare the same qualities she bore, that Gaius.. without being completely stupid... had held. That her dearest brother had. She wanted those kinds of children. With fire, with a will to survive and succeed. Banning lacked. How many battles had he faced?
Where were the Knights now?
The candle beside her flickered as if a window had opened, and Ceannah turned her head, but the windows were obviously still closed. it was strange, and.. unnerving for such things to happen. But she wouldn't just disappear. Not yet. She'd been thinking. Alvir was practicing, she could practically hear the grunting and cries from here. Alvir was useless with a blade. Perhaps she'd get him a crossbow. No one could fail with those.
The candle flickered again, and Ceannah had a feeling she wasn't alone anymore.
It was either an assassin or an attendant. But it could have been Fenrir. She glanced over her shoulder, trying to catch a shadow, displaced light, something.
