There were moments as he grazed his hand against her skin, Anders genuinely questioned whether she might decline his invitation to join him. He wouldn't have held it against her, of course; his kind wasn't always viewed favourably by other species and with good reason. Living as long as individuals like Anders had often resulted in accumulating a fair share of adversaries over time. Different packs had a knack for nursing grudges that endured for so many generations that the descendants hardly remembered the original cause of the rift.
Mentally preparing himself for a gentle rejection, shock swept across his face when Jules didn't immediately decline his offer. His surprise only intensified when she didn't demand jewels and property as collateral, both of which he would have readily agreed to. Yet, in seemingly further confirmation of her worth, she asked for something of little cost, yet high value.
What’s more, it was a perfectly reasonable request for her to make. In her position, he was sure that he would want the same, very fair request. The last thing that anyone wanted was to feel as though they were the last toy left on a shelf, left to wither and be coated in dust, in hopes that they might be once again entertained by their master.
Bringing her hand up to his lips, he planted a gentle kiss on her knuckles. "I can easily envision a world where you hold great significance to me," he assured her, his smile sincere. "However," he added, his smile taking on a slightly mischievous edge, "I warn you now. I am terrible when it comes to indulging those, I care for most, so you might as well prepare for that now”
