Who: Andais & Sean
Where: on the beach near her house
When: Saturday Evening, November 27th before this
Andais had Creena on his leash, and the blue grey great dane puppy walked next to her as she walked down to the beach, followed behind by her guard. She had specifically told him to not tell Deacon where they were going and when he had protested, she had given him the choice of either doing as she said or having to be replaced. He hadn't liked her implication, so he had reluctantly agreed with her. She was dressed in a black dress that hit her mid calf, and was barefoot. Her dark hair was pulled back from her face in a loose braid that hit just below her ass. She walked along the beach down from their house. She had been moody at best for the better part of the week and had taken to spending a great deal of time alone.
It was with some relief that Sean slipped away from the party that his sister and her boyfriend dragged him to when he'd woken up a couple of hours ago. The party had been set up on the beach with a small grill, bonfire, music and dancing. For the most part, Sean had been enjoying himself, but...the crowd present just wasn't in his age bracket and he felt a little old to say the least, even if 5 years wasn't much an age difference.
At any rate, Sean was feeling it so he grabbed himself a few beers and hobbled away down the beach with the aid of his cane. The unbuttoned dark blue shirt flared behind him a bit as he limped along, revealing the gray t-shirt he wore underneath. Sean hadn't really dressed for the beach, as in addition to the shirts he wore his usual blue jeans. He'd taken off the boots and socks, slinging them around his neck, his dog tags clinking against the heels as he moved.
Andais saw the party down the hall and she wasn't sure who it was, so she stopped walking in that direction. She didn't want to interrupt the party that was taking place. She turned back towards where she had come from and didn't want to go home. Home wasn't happy for her right then. She looked down at the puppy and back towards her guard and then back towards the party. She wasn't used to the feeling of yuck that had settled upon her and she wasn't thrilled. She walked a little bit towards her house and then sank down into the sand, sitting there seemed like a better option at least for now.
Not far from Andais came an unfamiliar male voice and figure limping toward her, "Looks like you could use one of these," Sean said to the forlorn looking woman with the puppy, happily exploring the area around Andais with a puppy's curiosity. He pulled one of the beers from the plastic rings holding them together and tossed her one.
She glanced up at the unfamiliar person and her hands moved quickly to catch the beer that was tossed to her. She looked at it and her brows furrowed. She sighed softly as she looked at her guard and waved him back, letting him know that she was fine. "I'm not much for beer. Though perhaps it would help." she said simply as she looked at him.
The doctor shrugged as he approached the woman and the puppy, "The happy feeling only lasts so long. Booze is sort of a downer." Sean bent at the waist instead of crouching down to hold his hand out to the puppy for inspection. Trying to sit on the ground was difficult given Sean's leg and he didn't want to make himself at home if he wasn't going to be welcome.
She watched as the puppy sniffed his hand. "Seems he likes you," she said as the dog's tail wagged a mile a minute. "You may join me if you wish." she added as she sat the beer down on the sand on the other side of her. "You left your party..." she said more as a statement than a question.
"Ah," He casually waved a dismissive hand behind him toward the noise that drifted back to the faerie princess and the doctor, "I'm not really much for these kinds of parties. I prefer mine with less of a crowd." He dropped his cane down by his feet along with the remaining two cans of beer and started the awkward process of taking a seat next to the woman and puppy and when he was finally settled, he smiled. The gesture had a pained edge to it, but it didn't seem to overly bother the man, "My sister and her boyfriend dragged me that." He jabbed a thumb back at the party, "They thought it was a good way for me to make friends since I'm new to town."
Andais watched as he settled down beside her and frowned at the pained look. "Understandable. I have not felt like being out in large crowds lately." She crossed her ankles in front of her as she looked over at the man. "Though being new in a large city like this, it is good to meet new people and to make friends. I have not been here long. Part of me regrets leaving home at all." she said as she looked out at the water.
"Most of my friends are scattered all over the country and a few are still overseas." He chuckled a little ruefully as he scratched absently behind the puppy's ears, "I'm actually coming home, in a way. My parents live upstate in Monterey where they go to the aquarium every Friday afternoon like clockwork." He shook his head and chuckled again, "I guess I get my being routine from them." Sean's expression turned thoughtful at the woman's comment about leaving home, "Homesick?" He inquired.
"Sometimes... I am right now. Mostly because I would not have allowed myself to be so foolish if I had been home. I have been so... so..." she frowned as she couldn't think of a good way of describing it. She sighed softly. "Human..." she said finally, her brows furrowing. She loved humans, how they lived so fast and some of them so free, but there were things about humans that she just didn't understand. She had always been so careful about how she held herself, and now she was talking to random strangers.
A laugh came from the former Marine at Andais' comment about being human. Of course, Sean was completely ignorant of the other, darker world around him and had no idea that he was currently conversing with a literal faerie princess. "Yeah, pesky thing, being human and all." He smiled, taking a sip of his beer, but joking aside it seemed as if something was troubling her and Sean, being a doctor and well...the helpful sort, had to ask, "Look, I know it's pretty much none of my business, but my job is dealing with other people's problems all day. You want to talk about it?"
Her eyes narrowed as he laughed at her. She quickly closed her eyes and counted to ten like the guard had asked her to earlier. by the time she got to ten she was at least as mild as she had been before. She would have to be a little nicer to him for the suggestion. She glanced over at the man and then scratched her dog's head as he laid his head on her lap. "I don't know you." she said before she looked back out at the water. "And you don't know anything of me... so why would talking to you about it make it any better whenever talking to the person that is closest to me in the world only made it more confusing."
Judging from her initial reaction, clearly Sean had stepped on her toes in some way, but he wasn't sure how'd he done that. Lifting his hands up in a placating gesture, "Granted, we don't know each other." He cracked a smile, "But there's a really quick way to remedy that." Sean then held out his hand to Andais and introduced himself, "I'm Sean, it's nice to meet you."
She looked at his hand and then put her hand into his shaking it firmly. "Andais... it is nice to meet you so far." she said. She clasped her hands in her lap in front of her. "I don't know if that will help... there is a whole lot to the story that you do not know or simply will not understand as a human."
Andais. That was an unusual name. Sean felt himself liking the name and paid close attention while the woman spoke. Although, the conversation was decidedly taking on a strange road for the doctor, who made the mental note that it was his second strange conversation of the day.
Sean ignored the "as a human" bit for now. He shrugged, "I may not understand the whole situation, but often times just talking about it is helpful." The doctor smiled at Andais.
She traced her fingers over the stitching in her skirt. It had been hand stitched by one of the brownies at home. The roses embroidered around the edges looked like her beloved roses at home. "I have not no idea where to start. But I know that I'm giving up... I have never had a successful relationship of any sort outside of Rozenwyn being around, and she kind of has to be around. We were to be playmates from the moment my mother was found to be pregnant with me. He's been around since the moment I entered the world as well... I shouldn't have tainted that."
Well, Andais had warned him, hadn't she? Sean was definitely confused, but to eliminate the confusion, he had to ask questions. He shook his head, "I don't understand...tainted how?"
"I let him know how I felt...kind of ... I let him see how I felt. I asked him not to leave... I don't do those things. I keep it all inside. Its easier that way. I don't get hurt... I don't have to deal with the pain and anger it causes to get hurt..." she said softly. "But he's been there for all of my life. I shouldn't have said a thing... because now I'm not comfortable with it..."
Sean exhaled sharply when the faerie princess had gone quiet and sipped at his beer while he mulled over what was said. He shook his head, "Wow..." The doctor looked over at her, something akin to awe in his voice, "How...do you live like that? Keeping everything bottled up?" Sean took another sip from the can and then added, "You're not comfortable with it...him? Because you...opened up to him, is that it?"
"I have always lived like this. It has done me well for nearly 250 years... Every time I try to care... that I try to let someone in they hurt me... He hasn't yet, but it will be easier if I just keep to myself and if it becomes too much... I can always go home. I know that will please Rozenwyn. She doesn't appreciate being here as much as I enjoy it. She misses home..."
Ok, what was this? Fuck With Sean's Head Day? Being a doctor, much of Sean's life dealt in cold, hard facts. In science. So the fact that a teenager had told him earlier that day that she came from the future and now this woman who looked like she could've been any one of his younger sister's friends...was a shock to his system. Sean looked down into the beer he had in his hand and then looked back up at the woman who thought she was 250-years-old and blinked, "Okay..." He said softly, "One, caring isn't that bad. Two, if you can't be with the guy you should just cut him loose." As Sean struggled to his feet, he added, "And three, clearly I have had too many of these." He indicated to the beer can he'd set aside.
She frowned softly as he spoke. She looked at her skirt and trailed her fingers over the stitching again. When he struggled to his feet, she knew he clearly didn't believe what she had said and she stood up, brushing off the sand from her skirt. "Nevermind." she said softly. "I knew better than to talk to you." she said as she moved away from him, the darkness around them seeming to grow darker with her mood. She felt a tear sliding down her cheek and wiped at it angrily as she walked down the beach back towards her house. She didn't want to go in there, but at least there, she could hand off the puppy to her guard and then just disappear. She knew she'd never hear the end of it, but she wanted to truly be alone and not stuck inside while doing it.
Sean was left standing there more than a little confused, but chalking the entire situation up to not getting enough sleep and quite possibly being more drunk than he originally thought he was. It was definitely time to go home as he gathered up his belongings and headed back toward the beach party, all the while convincing himself that he had not just spoken to a 250-year-old woman.
