Making a Phone Call
Who: Skylar and Gwen
Where: On the Phone
When: Oct. 29th, Afternoon
After Skylar heard what had happened with Patience, she actually felt kind of bad. She couldn't help but wonder if her fight with Patience had helped bring out the start of the crazy violent part of her that eventually caused her to lash out at Iris (whom Skylar didn't exactly care for, but she knew the girl didn't deserve THAT). So, Skylar ended up doing the one thing that she could think of. After calling around and finding the number, she dialed up Gwen Morrison.
Gwen picked up after a few rings, audibly aggravated. And of course... because this WAS Gwen... "This better be good. I'm in the middle of going down on my fiance."
"Well, darling, it's kind of important," Skylar said. "I'm glad to see that some things never change. You're as hilarious and charming as ever." Actually, that wasn't even sarcasm. Maybe one day these two could be friends, eh?
".....Skylar?" Gwen's voice squeaked mildly. Hey, she wasn't expecting to ever hear from her ex again, ok? Oh god... Gwen wondered briefly if she even knew about the engagement. "What... is everything ok?"
She actually didn't, but she wouldn't have been anything but happy for Gwen if she had. "Actually, it's not, I'm afraid. I'm not sure if you knew this, but, when Patience had Cash, she had to become half-demon to carry him to full term because of the heavy magic that runs in her family. I think it finally overwhelmed her, because she attacked Iris." Skylar sighed. "She ran away and left Pat alone with the baby."
"Wait... what?" Oh, Gwen knew about the demon-thing... but... the other part? "She... whattaya mean she left Pat? You mean like... to go on some soul-searching vacation or something, right?"
"No, like she left her wedding ring and partially cleared out her accounts," Skylar told her. "I wouldn't call if she went on a month long trek to Tibet, you know." Skylar sighed again. "I'm almost worried I brought this out of her. We had a fight at Avarice where I teased and goaded her and she lashed out and tried to strangle me. At the time, I just thought that it was something to do with...well...we never really liked each other. Now I'm worried I may have brought the violent part of her demon aspects out of her and now she can't control it."
"Sweetie... no. Paige said she had to learn to control herself... but why... God, how could she leave Pat? OUR Pat?" Yes, even after all that happened, Gwen still thought of Pat as someone who partially belonged to her and Skylar.
Skylar did, too, actually, which was what had brought her to call Gwen in the first place. "I really don't know..." Skylar said after thinking about it for a moment. "I can't put my finger on WHY she thought that she needed to leave like that. There are plenty of people both here in LA and Vegas that could have helped her out, or probably even reversed the process. Look what happened with Mere, after all."
Gwen wanted to cry. Right there. Her best friend had left her AGAIN. But no... this was the new, mature Gwen. She had to worry about Pat right now. "Let me talk to Blake. Then I'll get out there and talk to him. Would you be willing to do this with me?"
"Sure," Skylar said with a nod. "I just wasn't sure how he would take talking to me right away, since Patience and I never got along, even when we were trying." Him talking with Gwen, Patience's best friend, however, may help some more, though.
"Oh. And... dunno if Ben told you, but... Blake proposed to me." She paused then, making a shushing sound. "Hush, you! I know we were sexin' it up, but this is important. Trust me, baby... I'll explain everything the MINUTE I'm done." She sighed and talked back into the phone again. "Sorry bout that."
Skylar actually laughed at Gwen talking to Blake for a moment. "That's wonder, Gwen," she said about them getting engaged. "Maybe I'll drop in on your wedding like you did on mine," she added playfully.
"Yeah, well... I was planning on inviting you anyway, smart-ass. Mostly so you could see me in my sexy dress and kick yourself for givin' this up." Aww. At least she was able to be playful about it now. Maybe Blake really DID heal her, hm?
Skylar chuckled. "I bet it is a wonderful dress," she said. "I'm sure I'll kick myself terribly for at least not having one good 'going away' threesome with him or something." This was actually kind of nice. Who would have guessed?
"Well... face it. We both could have handled the whole sitch a lot better than we did." She sighed. "That's a subject for a face-to-face though. I... I don't mean to be rude, but I should go. I feel a big, horrible cry coming on, and I'd rather be in my girl's arms when it hits."
"I understand completely," Skylar said with a slight smile still on her lips. "You call me when you hit town, so that we can go over and see Pat together, OK?" She twirled the phone cord in her fingers as she sat on the sofa in the living room. "One way or another, things are going to be OK."
"Skylar?" She said, sweetly enough, her voice still cracking a bit whenever she said her former wife's name. "If... If Blake's ok with it, you think we could have lunch when I come out? Just... catch up? Clear things up between us?"
"I think that would be grand, actually," Skylar said to her. Maybe they could be friends again. It would be nice to not have this whole 'Gwen vs. Skylar' thing hanging around in a big nasty cloud over their heads.
