Who: Zane and Julian Where: Regan High When: Tuesday Afternoon - September 7
As it was a beautiful day outside, with the sun shining and no rain on the horizon, Julian Lasher decided to take his time before heading home. Why? Well... home wasn't exactly his favorite place to be. Too many reminders of what he really was. So now that school was over for the day? The young warlock was laying underneath a tree in the vast schoolyard, enjoying a book. Today? It was a copy of Stephen King's "The Stand". So... he was reading as many things about the Antichrist and the end of the world as he could, ok? Some of them had to have some validity SOMEWHERE.
Zane had just pushed through the double doors leading out into the school yard and was shoving the last of her books into her backpack in her rush to clear the yard and make it to the parking area in record time. She was running a little bit behind schedule and was hoping to make the time up by hurrying to her car and then break the speed limit to get home before the baby would wake from his afternoon nap. Hurrying equalled being careless for Zane as not watching where exactly she was going to girl ended up tripping over Julian's stretched out legs as he lay under the umbrella of a large tree instead of stepping around them.
"Shit!" The girl hissed beneath her breath as she stumbled over the boy's legs with her backpack dropping to the ground and spilling a few of it's contents. One of which was the teens prized camera with a zoom lens.
"Oh shit..." Julian exclaimed as he quickly crawled over to make sure she was ok. He quickly looked at the camera that had been dropped... and saw that the lens was cracked. Before she could see it... his eyes went dark red, and he waved his hand at it... watching as the lens seemingly repaired itself. "Are you alright? I'm so, so sorry..."
Zane was too distracted trying to collect her things back up and put back into her backpack to notice the instant repair of the camera lens by the boy. "Yeah, yeah. I'm fine." The camera being the last item that went back into the pack before Zane tried gaining her feet again. "I should have been paying more attention to where I was going." Looking over to Julian once she was on her feet and attempting to apologize for literally walking into him. Or his legs at least.
"Don't worry about me. My legs will be fine. I likely will walk again within weeks." He said, trying his best to joke a little. He wasn't exactly a stand-up comedian, ok? "I'm Julian. If you're going to fall for me... shouldn't I at least get your name?"
Zane smirked at his little bit of joking. "Zane. And I don't normally fall so hard for guys. Guess you just have that aura about you." The teen grinned zipping her backpack securely so there was no chance of a repeat of what happened a moment before.
"Oh. Obviously. You couldn't tell by the long line of girls around the tree just waiting for a chance at me?" He snickered, his own self-worth still low, even if Brandie HAD been bringing it up a bit.
"They're waiting in the bushes to ambush you, didn't you know that?" Zane teased slinging the strap of her pack onto one shoulder. He wasn't Adonis that was for sure, but Julian wasn't all that bad looking either in Zane's eyes.
"Well... crap." He said in a deadpan tone. "Maybe I should have taken those tae-kwon-do classes after all." He stooped down and picked his book back up, placing it in his own bag. "Seriously though. Not exactly a worry of mine. I've had all of ONE girl show interest in me so far." Although... damn... that one... he had to force himself not to grin stupidly.
"Judging by that little glint in your eyes I'm going to hazard a guess and say the interest is mutual." Zane commented. If it were a mutual interest then the guy shouldn't worry about any other girls that might attend Regan High.
"It's... very mutual." He admitted, even if he was trying his damnedest to NOT let Brandie Bale into his heart too much. He kept telling himself it just... couldn't end well for either of them. "Now, a girl like you, I'm guessing might legitimately have that problem: guys lining up and all that."
"Hardly." Zane said. "A girl with a baby is kind of a turn off for guys." At least it was for her ex. She hadn't spoken to him since telling the guy about her condition. He seemed to have become quite adept at avoiding her at school, and rumor had it he didn't waste anytime moving on. Zane just shrugged it all off. Julian would probably find out soon enough that she had a two month old. Word burned like wildfire around the high school once her secret had got out months back. And Zane definitely wasn't ashamed in any way about being a teen mom. She loved and adored her little boy and had the complete support of her family. And that really was all that mattered to the girl.
Leave it to Julian to find that... sweet. "I love kids. So adorable and innocent... shame they have to learn how cold the world can be as they get older. I'm sure you're a good mom, too. You seem very nice." Give him credit for not even batting an eyelash when she said it. I suppose when you've grown up knowing you were meant to be a demonic vessel, things like teen pregnancy don't really shock you anymore.
Zane smiled to him. "He's like the light of my life now. I was scared at first, before he was even born, that I wouldn't be a good mother. But seeing him for the first time... " Zane sighed with emotion as she felt her eyes start to mist. "Just seemed to wash away any doubts I had." She smiled softly swiping the mist from her eyes.
"I believe that... I hope I get to be a parent one day, actually. I've always been really good with kids." He doubted severely that he'd live long enough to see that day... but it was a nice dream, nonetheless. "Just... remember to always love the child. Never listen to anyone other than yourself when it comes to being a parent. Make the child your entire world." He wasn't even giving advice really... just saying how he wished his OWN childhood had been.
"Hold that look." Zane requested of the boy as she quickly unzipped her pack to remove her camera to snap the moment. There was just something she caught within his eyes, something that had his features softening. It was a look she wanted to capture to film.
Julian actually blushed when she snapped the picture, feeling oddly flattered that someone wanted to photograph him for any reason. He said nothing about it though, and instead merely smiled, running a hand through his hair.
"Sounds like he's got.. a really good mom then."
"Sorry." Zane apologized with a smile. "I get impulsive and forget to ask when I see a shot worth taking. Guess it's the aspiring photographer in me that I just go for the moment before it escapes into eternity."
