Enjoying a Coffee
Who: Mere and Mac
When: Monday Afternoon, 8/9
Where: Chloe's Sugar Shack
School hadn't started QUITE yet for Mac, and Mere wanted to put forth an effort to start really getting to know Mac. Sure, she knew the girl was sweet and utterly worshiped by Brayden in a way that was completely unsexual (which was kind of awesome, considering Bray), but she didn't know much else about her yet. So, after giving her a call, Mere asked her to meet her for some coffee over at the Shack (and, OK, maybe a muffin or two) in an effort to get to know the other girl a little bit more. Mere had already picked up something semi-new called a Diabetic Coma or something on the recommendation of Lucy, and initially almost yacked because of the shock of sugar. Once you got used to it, though, it was actually pretty good.
Mac had been a little surprised by the call she had gotten from Meredith. Not that she was absorbed with the idea that Meredith didn't like her, quite the opposite in fact. It was a mutual like on both their parts, though the two had rarely spent any time together. What linked them together was one Brayden Bale. So when Mere did call Mac agreed without hesitation to meet the other girl at Chloe's Sugar Shack. If she was going to be moving in with her and Brayden, at least that was how her best friend made it appear, then she would have to put forth that extra effort to get to know her soon to be room-mate.
With a glance given around when she entered the coffee place, and a little wave sent Mere's way when she caught sight of the girl, Mac headed to the counter to get herself a hot chocolate with whipped cream, cinnamon, and those tiny little marshmallows she loved in the hot drink ever so much. Only after she had drink in hand did Mac head over to where Mere was seated.
Mere smiled at Mac and waved at her when she saw her. After Mac got her drink and sat down, Mere took a sip of her own drink before saying, "Thanks for coming out to hang out with me a little bit. I've kind of been wanting to hang out with you for a while. Just haven't had a chance to really do so. Everything's been a little chaotic lately." A near war had been declared between Patience and Skylar, after all.
"Just the opposite for me." Mac told the other girl once she had seated herself at Mere's table. Wasn't surprising though considering Mac still wasn't getting out as much as she should, or as often as Brayden thought she should. "Hope it's not been too chaotic for you." Mac added before taking a cautious sip of her hot chocolate.
"Well, it's not so much me as some of my friends," Mere told her. "It's still distracting, though, especially when they are causing most of the problems themselves by being...well, stupid and impulsive, honestly." She laughed. "When I'm calling someone too impulsive, that should mean something."
Mac gave a soft smile listening to what Mere was saying. "Well, it certainly sounds like you've had a couple eventful days." Mac found herself saying to the other girl. "Hopefully the upcoming days will be less chaotic for you."
"Well, lets hope so, anyway," Mere said with a slight laugh. "So how are things going with you? Looking forward to school at all?" Mere never did, but Mac seemed like she would have done better in school than she would have.
"Kind of?" Mac answered a bit hesitantly. "I suppose I should be, but I have this feeling it will end up being like it was before school let out for the summer." Brayden wouldn't be there, and her only other friend still in high school was Clark, and it wasn't like Mac could cling to him all through school hours. So Mac was anticipating a repeat of the months she attend Regan High the past few months.
"You never know about that," Mere told her. "This could be your year there." She knew that some of the kids who had tormented her had graduated. Of course, that could just bring in a whole new crop of assholes, but hopefully there wouldn't be any sort of problem of that type.
"Don't know about it being my year there, but should be better then the one I just went through." Mac said trying to get herself to think on the positive side for this upcoming school year.
"Well, you never know until you get there," Mere said to her. "You just got to think positive and hope for the best." Mere was sure that the girl would be alright. She then looked over her shoulder. "Speaking of positive, there's a boy looking at you right now." She nodded in the boy's direction. "Know him?"
Mac sipped her hot chocolate, smiling softly as she listened to what Mere was saying. That surprised Mac, surely whoever was looking in their direction was looking at Meredith and not herself. That thought, though, didn't deter the teen from daring a glance back over her shoulder. When the teen found herself catching the boy's gaze he smiled at her, which had Mac quickly looking away. "No." Mac replied meekly before taking a drink of her hot chocolate. Drawing the attention of any guy still hurdled Mac into the throws of awkwardness and had her, for the most part, shying away from them.
Oh, Mere had to resist bubbling into a fit of giggles at that. "Well, I think he wants to get to know you," she said playfully as the boy realized that he had been caught looking and glanced down at his coffee. "Looks about your age, too. Maybe you'll have a class with him in the fall."
"He's probably more interested in you," and who wouldn't be. Meredith, in Mac's eyes, was super model beautiful. "Maybe." Mac shrugged. Finding herself in the same class wouldn't necessarily mean that the boy would talk to her. Never-the-less Mac snuck a second quick glance back at the boy.
The boy had actually snuck a second glance at Mac again and when she looked back, looked down quickly. "Somehow I doubt I'm the one that he's interested in," Mere said with a knowing smile.
Mac kind of wished that the boy's interest had lay in Meredith. That kind of interest got her tongue tied with the sole thought of trying to find the nearest exit. "Maybe we should go?" Last thing the teen wanted to do was make a fool of herself in front of Meredith. Which she feared would happen if the boy actually came over to their table.
Mere shrugged. "Sure, if that's what you want." She was definitely going to tell Bray about this, though, just to watch him get brotherly and over protective. When it was over someone else, it was totally cute.
"I don't know." Mac took yet another drink of her hot chocolate totally at a lose as to what to do. "What if he comes over here and I make a total idiot of myself." The teen really looking for guidance here from Meredith on what to do. It seemed so easy for the other girl to talk and deal with guys. For Mac it was like being a fish out of water.
Mere grinned at Mac. "He doesn't exactly look like the approaching type, honestly," Mere said to her. "Kind of shy...you know, like you." Just a feeling that she got about him, since he kept looking back down when they caught him staring.
Mac couldn't help glance back at the boy once more. He was cute, Mac admitted silently to herself, but that wasn't getting either of them far. Both still sat at their prospective tables. The boy alone. Mac with Meredith. "That doesn't help." The teen smirked lightly to Meredith after turning back around. "If we're both the non approaching type..." Mac stated with a little bit of a sigh.
"Well, if you guys go to school together, maybe approachment will be easier," Mere pointed out. "Also, he could come here more often, too." Of course, with the look in his eyes as he looked at her, he'd probably be coming here more often just in hopes of seeing her again.
"You think so?" Mac questioned back with a tinge of hopefullness in her voice. And though she was tempted to do so, Mac kept herself from giving another glance back in the boy's direction. Instead the teen concentrated on finishing of her cup of hot chocolate.
Mere smiled at her. "I know so," she told Mac. "Don't worry about it so much. Who knows? Maybe you'll be able to approach him yourself at some point. It'll make things a lot easier."
"Maybe." Though Mac wasn't thinking that it would actually happen. "So," the teen making a swift attempt to change the current topic of conversation. "Did you want to do a little shopping after we're done here?" Mac felt they could only linger for so long in the coffee place, especially now that she knew a certain pair eyes kept wandering in her direction.
Mere nodded. "Sure." Girl always loved to do some shopping. "Needing some school supplies or new clothes or something?" Mac seemed the type to have a reason to want to go shopping, after all.
"I don't want to think of school supplies." Mac smiled grimly at the thought she'd be attending high school again real soon. "Clothes shopping would be nice." The teen perking up a bit at the idea. Even if it would just consist of window shopping with no actual buying.
Mere smiled and finished off her drink. "Great. Come on, let's get going and find you some great clothes for the school year."
Mac stood up shouldering the strap of her bag and then reached for her empty cup to trash on the way out. "Thank you for today." Mac murmured softly with a smile. Their day wasn't quite over yet, but Mac wanted Meredith to know she appreciated the other girl inviting her out for the day. Her friends could be counted on one hand, and Mac felt lucky she could count Meredith as one of them.
"Not a problem," Mere said to her with a smile. "We should totally do this more often. I'm actually having a good time with you." She wasn't too surprised, since the girl seemed perfectly nice and all, but it was a good thing.
"I am too." Mac smiled back. "And just so you know," the teen started saying as the pair stepped away from the table and toward the door. "I'm still not all caught up on the fashion ins and outs so you're gonna have to kind of lead on the shopping and which stores are worth visiting." Mac's smile turning a bit sheepish as she revealed she wasn't exactly a fashionista.
"It's more important to find stuff that looks good on you as opposed to worrying about what's 'in' or whatever," Mere pointed out to her as they headed out the door. "I'm sure we'll find plenty of stuff for you."
"I think we will." Mac said pushing herself to think positively about the shopping venture. Once the two were outside and moving down the cement path Mac couldn't resist peering back inside for one last glimpse of the boy. Mac then shook her head to thrust any lingering thoughts of of him from her mind as she was certain she'd probably not see him again.
