Two Legends
Who: Lena and Adrianna
Where: Eden
When: Wednesday Night, Aug. 4th
Clusterfuck. That was the ONLY word Adrianna Valentino could think of to describe her current state of affairs. She was the second oldest vampire in existence, and hadn't truly let herself be overcome with anything remotely akin to affection in EONS. Yet... here she was, being overtly bitchy and downright... HUMAN in regards to one Damon Braddock. So she was trying, tonight, to get herself in the frame of mind where she felt like the goddess most people looked at her as. Wearing a long, slit-to-the-hip sequined gown that left her cleavage tantalizingly exposed, her pouty lips coated in a sheen of dark red, the ancient vampire stood by the bar, taking a sip from the glass of fresh blood she'd ordered.
Even though she was having a host of feelings that she wasn't sure that she had felt in eons, Lena was far more in control of herself than Adrianna seemed. Of course, Lena was nothing if not something of a control freak, which was why she had nearly lost it when Luke left. It threw her life into chaos, and she HATED that. However, things were better now. She was out tonight as well, planning on soaking up the atmosphere that was the basement level of Eden, maybe grab herself a bite to eat.
Adrianna had felt bored, honestly, until she spotted Lena there. Oh, come on. Even vampires had gossip circles, and while Adrianna didn't exactly participate in such things, she HEARD the rumors. And apparently, Lena had finally joined 'their side', meaning the vampires who were at least TRYING to not be the monsters that most of them allowed themselves to be. She smiled and gave the redhead a long, slow nod of respect. Which coming from one so ancient? Was like an HONOR.
It actually took a second for Lena to realize just who it was that had given her the nod. Well, if it wasn't Ms. Adrianna herself, the woman who had encouraged Devon to try and be all calm and serene. This woman she must talk to, now. She slid a little closer to her down the bar. "Mind if I join you?" she asked.
"Not at all, my dear." Considering she had sired Devon, she considered him like her son in a way. So this? Was bound to be an interesting conversation. "Please. Have a seat."
Lena smiled at sat down beside her. "So, the infamous Adrianna," she said to her. "For someone that I've heard so much about, I actually know very little about you." Of course, that was probably on purpose.
"Not many know a lot about me, I'm afraid." She said with a somewhat snarky grin. "So you're... seeing Devon now, hm?" She asked, scanning the other vamp for any semblance of insincerity.
"I'm sure that you intend it that way," Lena said to her. It wasn't like she hadn't used that tactic plenty herself, after all. She nodded at her question. "Yes, I am, actually. I hope you don't have a problem with it, since he is your childe."
"A problem?" Adrianna asked, a slightly amused lilt to her voice, her lips curling into a slight smirk. "I'm tempted to ask who you are and what you've done with the Lena I've heard tales about. I suppose possibly you really HAVE changed." She wasn't mocking in tone at all - she was merely trying to determine the woman's intentions. "Devon obviously has a mind of his own. I don't control him nor do I wish to. However... I do have a vested interest in seeing him stay the course I set for him. If the way you're acting now is sincere? Then no. I have no problem with it. But. Let me say up front that if I find out this is some scheme to hurt him? You will see a side of me you've never heard about. Because nobody who's ever seen it has lived to tell."
"I have no intention of hurting him," Lena told her honestly. "I actually never did. I do admit to being somewhat amused by his interest in 'helping' me first," she admitted. She traced the rim of her glass with a finger as she spoke. "He was there for me after Luke took off, though. I'll forever be grateful for that. Our relationship just developed from there, I think." She wasn't afraid of the other vampire, for the simple reason that she wasn't going to do anything that would anger not. Not for fear of the anger, but because she didn't want to hurt Devon for her and his own sakes.
"Good. If you know anything about me, you know that I don't make threats. I was merely explaining what would happen were you to hurt him." Adrianna raised a brow, finally giving something of a real smile. "I always saw a lot of potential in you. Always held back so badly by that idiot Luke..."
"I seem to hear that a lot about him," Lena said about Luke. "Of course, he snagged me out of the life of a servant girl. I didn't exactly know to say anything to him for hundreds of years." Let's just say that she didn't realize that she could stand up to him and get her way until the 'vampiric' Slayer in the 1750s.
"And Devon was almost a priest, dying of influenza. And I... well, I understand your plight, I'll merely say that." She smirked, ALMOST revealing pieces of her past, which she did for nobody. "The point is... what matters isn't who you were then... its who you are NOW."
Lena had known that Devon used to be a priest, but she hadn't known that he had been dying of influenza. Lena got the feeling that she hadn't always been such a 'strong' woman herself, but Adrianna stopped talking before she explained more. Hmm..."That's right. What matters is who I am now. And who I am is my own person, not a 'side kick' to anyone else."
"You're a smart, strong woman, Lena. You were merely saddled with a misogynistic louse who never gave you a chance to be your own person." She appeared to take a long moment of thought then, before tapping her chin and smiling. "Tell me, Lena... Was Luke your sire?"
"I've learned so many words for what Luke was since he left, or disappeared, or whatever you want to call it," Lena said to her. When Adrianna asked if he was her sire, she reflected back to the night he did sire her. "He was," Lena told her. "He murdered my family and kidnapped me and took me away. I was a servant to his family."
"Luke is a spoiled child of a vampire. Considering that you were his responsibility and he... abandoned you, for lack of better terms... I would like to take you under my wing. Be the teacher and confidante he clearly wasn't fit to be." And talk about an honor... she had never offered something like this before in her entire existence.
"He made me almost right after he was made by...someone." Lena didn't even know who made Luke. He had never mentioned it to her, after all. "I wouldn't mind having a confidante, though." She wasn't sure what this woman could teach her at this point, though.
"Clearly, by now you know what it means to be a vampire. But like my Devon... I can re-teach you what it means to be HUMAN. While not forgetting for a moment what you truly are. I can be the balance you seek... But don't waste my time." She gave an even look, not betraying any emotion at all. "I have never offered this to anyone who wasn't turned by me. Do not mistake this for anything other than what it truly is: an HONOR."
A part of her wanted to laugh. Just simply the idea of someone teaching her anything at this point felt a little absurd, considering how old she was. Still, she figured that she could learn a few things about being human still, or at least being more humane. "Fine. I won't waste your time," she said simply to her.
"Hopefully..." Adrianna stated simply as she stood. "We can become close. I would like that a great deal. But as Devon will tell you... For that to happen? You will have to learn to respect me. But that will... have to be taught as well, I suppose."
"I'm sure that you will earn it," Lena said to her. It was hard to just 'command' respect from a person after meeting them for one night, but she was willing to try, and, considering what Lena was like before, that was a huge step in the right direction.
