As soon as he closed the door behind Bella, Damon seemed to collapse against it. The vampire's breath came out hard and fast, as if he'd been running a marathon and forgot to train properly for it while he tried to rein in his emotions long enough to call Lilith and tell her he wouldn't be making it to his shift that evening. He made his excuses to the ancient vampire with the promise to explain everything tomorrow night. The phone fumbled from his hand when he tried placing it back in the cradle and it took two more tries before he finally placed the device where it was supposed to go.

Damon felt like the scummiest piece of trash someone stepped in and disgustedly tried scraping off the bottom of their shoe. Dumping his coffee, and Bella's, into the sink, the vampire pulled out a chilled bottle of opened wine and poured himself a glass. Taking both the bottle and glass, Damon headed to the roof of his building where he realized that he'd already begun crying when the wind his face. The wind made made the cool streaks of crimson tears apparent on his face and the back of his hand lifted to wipe them away. He took a gulp of wine as he walked toward the wide, raised ledge of the building and easily settled to sit on it.
