Overly Flamboyant Meets Shy and Awkward
Who: Mac and Clark
Where: Beverly Center
When: Wednesday Afternoon - July 14
Brayden had arranged for a limo to take Mac out on a little shopping excursion. The teen had been dropped off at the Beverly Center Shopping Mall with a promise from the driver that he'd be back to pick the teen up in an hour’s time in that precise spot. She wasn't used to being out on her own, but Mac wasn't expecting Brayden to accompany her everywhere she wanted to go. Especially on a shopping trip. Mac had learned that guys were less than thrilled at having to do such a thing. So the teen was braving it on her own as she wandered the interior of the mall mostly window shopping at the moment.
Clark was out shopping, for once without his actress mother (thank God), but with her Credit Card. Ca-ching! He loved his mother, he truly did, but… she could be far too overbearing. So, he’d take advantage to be out alone while he could, damn it. He was currently perusing the shop windows in his favourite designer outfit, just looking fabulous (thanks for asking), when he saw Mac approaching him from the opposite direction. "Oh, don’t you just look darling," he said to her sweetly.
When Mac heard the boy the teen didn't acknowledge the boy with a direct look, but rather Mac glanced back over her shoulder casually instantly thinking he was addressing someone behind her. When it became obvious that that wasn't the case, the only ones near enough that the boy could have been directing his comment to were a couple college age guys, so Mac knew they weren't who Clark had apparently spoken to.
Did she look darling? Mac glanced down at the short sleeve, polka dot hoodie she was wearing over a plain white tee and black jeans with black sneakers. The teen didn't exactly share the boy's view on how she looked, but Mac acknowledged him just the same. "Thank you." She said softly and with faint traces of a smile when they were within a couple feet of each other.
"Ooooh, aren't you just the cutest thing ever? I seriously just want to pinch your cheeks," he replied. Was that anyway to talk to someone you just met? Probably not, but Clark wasn't aware of those things. He'd been around actresses and people who worked in make-up departments, so he'd been taught nothing about boundaries growing up. "I'm Clark," he told her cheerily, offering her his hand. He was also… constantly in a good mood, it seemed. Or, at the very least, found a positive spin to everything.
That had Mac taking a step back from the boy. She wasn't used to guys being so forward with her, well except for Brayden, but Mac was used to his ways now. And anyway he was her best friend so she had gotten used to his ways. But this boy here? He was just being too friendly and cheery that it was making Mac uncomfortable. "I'm Mackenzie." The teen offered back. At least her awkwardness hadn't led Mac to being rude.
"Oh, I won't bite, sweetie," Clark chuckled and set his hand on his hip. He seriously needed to learn how to tone it down. The trouble there was he didn't know how. He gave her a pleasant smile, the kind that most people found hard to resist. "Seriously, I'm like this with everyone. Hm... maybe that explains the restraining orders against me?" He murmured, before seeing her expression: "I'm kidding!"
Restraining orders? Mac's eyes went all big and round hearing that and had the teen taking another step back from Clark. It was only when the boy added that he was merely jesting did Mac allow herself to relax a bit. "You're weird." Mac said when she found her voice again. But then she really couldn't, and didn't actually, hold it against the boy cause she knew some considered her an oddity in itself.
"I'll take it," he replied with a happy little grin. "I've been called a lot of things, but I take that one as a compliment. Weird is different, and I'd rather be different than ordinary any day of the week." If he only knew who he was talking to, huh? The funny thing was, he just wanted to take her under his wing, protect her and guide her. She seemed far too shy to be healthy – but then again, he was far too outgoing to be healthy. Two sides of the same coin, weren't they?
"I sometimes wish the opposite." Mac admitted. Mac had considered herself different from others her age for so long that there were times she ached to be just a normal teen. Someone like Brayden or Mere who always seemed confident in their own skins. She was also getting that off Clark. The boy just seemed to exude confidence and self esteem.
"Honey," he tsked. "There's nothing wrong with being different. Would you rather nothing happened to you your entire life, or would you rather live it? That's what it comes down to. Don't ever be afraid. Even if the answer to your questions are 'no'. At least you asked, right? At least then you'll never regret not knowing what might have been." A little overdramatic, wasn't he? Still… he had a point. "Do you want to have a coffee with me?" He leaned forward then and added so that only she could hear: "It's okay if you say 'no'."
Mac had come real close to declining Clark's offer, but something Brayden said to her cut that response off. "I'm not much of a coffee drinker." It wasn't that she was saying no, Mac just felt it was only right to let the boy know she wasn't a coffee drinker. Why have someone go along if they weren't going to be drinking the beverage.
Well now that wasn't a 'no', was it? "I'll buy you a juice box, if you'd prefer," he replied. Hey, he could respect that not everyone drank coffee. It was just that he'd been drinking it since he'd barely reached the double digits. Sure, it was the occasional sip here and there, but that was all he needed to be hooked.
"I can spare a few minutes." Mac told him. The limo wasn't suppose to come back for her for another 40 minutes. Surely having something to drink somewhere in the mall wouldn't take up all that time. She could maybe even get a little actual shopping done afterward so as not to go home empty handed.
"Well good. You're officially one of my new best friends," he replied, offering her his elbow to escort her. "And if we have time to spare, I'll help you to pick out an equally fabulous outfit." Sure, Mac might not have thought much about her current appearance, but Clark saw potential, and he saw nothing wrong in boosting a woman's self esteem.
