Time for a Little TLC
Who: Kevin and Buffy
Where: Eden
When: Saturday, June 5th, Evening
For once, even being at his favorite hangout spot, and with the girl that usually made his already good mood even better, nothing could seem to bring a smile to Kevin Van Warren's face. As he and Buffy sat at their favorite table at Eden, Kevin just stared blankly into his drink, the frowny little look on his face as surprising as his unusually normal getup: just black jeans, a black button-down shirt, and nothing glam about him outside of his usual black eyeliner. Clearly, between first temporarily losing his sister, and now facing the possibility of losing someone who was practically an adopted sister, this was beginning to be a LOT for him to handle
Buffy reached out across the table and squeezed Kevin's hand. "She's gonna be OK," she said to Kevin. She had seen Rachelle and, while she wasn't awake or anything, she hadn't looked *too* bad.
"What if she doesn't wake up, Buffy? Even the doctors cant say she will for sure... I'm so tired of losing the people I care about..." He could barely meet Buffy's eyes he was so upset... "God, she just got married... she was starting to get everything she wanted..."
"Kevin, you have to stay positive in times like this," she told him. "I know how easy it is to get down and depressed, and, while I don't know Rachelle that well, I know that's exactly what she *wouldn't* be wanting you to do."
"I know... and I'm trying. But seeing Chloe and Lucy so torn up doesn't make it any easier either. She's part of our family. I don't know how to explain it... how much she means to us..." He reached over, placing his hand on hers.
"She's like a sister to you, I know that," Buffy said. "I know that, if something like this had happened to Dawn, I'd be devastated."
"Buffy... I wish so badly that I could be like you... that I could protect the people I love... instead of just standing by watching them get hurt and killed one by one..." He squeezed her hand, more trying not to cry than anything.
"Actually, sometimes it sucks hard," she admitted. She got up and scooted her chair over so that she was sitting beside Kevin instead of across from him. "It can be horrible because, more often than not, you'll feel like you should have been able to do *more* to protect them from something because you know you're physically able."
"Promise me something, Buffy?" Now, keep in mind that while Kevin found Buffy's powers awesome, and admittedly kind of hot, he never ONCE asked her to use them against anything or anyone. "When we find out who or what hurt her... Whatever it, he, or she is... I want it *dead*."
"Because I wasn't planning on grinding it into a powdery paste already?" Buffy asked. "Really. I hate seeing you hurt like this. I already wanted to kill this thing."
He let his head sort of thunk down onto the table almost comically. "It hit me recently that Rachelle is married... and I've barely even MET the girl. I feel like such a horrible friend. She was SO excited about Neely, and all I cared about was getting the band back together and being happy about Lucy. Now she might be gone, and I'll never get to share that excitement with her.
"You will," Buffy told him. "I promise you that you will get to share all that excitement with her, plus us getting married, having kids, and them probably finding a way to have kids as well." Buffy actually didn't know that new kids had arrived, so she was just pulling out of the ether there. "She's gonna wake up, OK?"
"I don't know what I'd do without you, you know that?" He asked, taking her hand again, and bringing it sweetly to his lips, "I love you, you know that?"
"I love you, too," she said back to him, leaning against him for a moment. "I don't even want to think of what I'd do without you."
"Well, unless some demon thing decides to go after totally human girlie-men... I think you're gonna be stuck with me for a lonnnng time." He smiled, trying to lighten the mood at least a LITTLE.
"Because it hasn't happened before?" she reminded him. "Don't jinx yourself like that! Or me, for that matter." Neely was apparently having more control than Buffy was, because she would tear SOMETHING up.
"You know? Somehow, I bet Angry!Buffy would be about the sexiest thing ever. You know..." he grinned there and let out that patented giggle of his. "Unless it's at me. Then it would just be scary."
She laughed. "I wouldn't know about that. Besides, what could you even do that would make me mad?" She couldn't imagine what that would be. He made her way too happy to do that.
"Maybe use your makeup by mistake?" Hey now... who said he couldn't have fun with his own reputation, hm?
"Ew! That's just gross." OK, that MIGHT make her mad, because she was also favoring some heavy eyeliner as of late, probably due to Kevin's influence, and sharing that would just be icky.
"See? That's what I'm talking about." He stood, realizing that somehow, just being with her had brightened his mood a bit. "Let's get out of here. I'm getting the sudden desire to take you shopping and buy you ridiculously expensive things.
"Because I can say no to that," Buffy said with a grin, standing up. OK, she liked being an independent girl and all, but damn if she didn't like having her boyfriend buy her pretty things as well.
