a chance meeting
Who: Dawn and Ariana
Where: The Sugar Shack
When: Sunday, February 28
It was Sunday night and Dawn had homework. Homework called for an extensive dose of sugar and caffeine, which was why she was sitting at a small table in the Sugar Shack with a very large mocha frappucino and papers and books everywhere. She was hoping that this time, she wouldn't be interrupted by wayward nieces from the future.
She wasn't paying a whole lot of attention to her surroundings.
Her first night in the city Ariana had confined her wanderings and finding suitable meals for herself and Lena to the more popular clubs, tonight though the blonde vamp chose to check out different locales, which was how she ended up at the Sugar Shack. Her first actual stop for the night, and one she was ever so pleased to have paid a visit to. Strolling casually into the establishment dressed in a pair of black dress slacks and houndstooth short sleeve sweater, Ariana wandered over toward the counter as her eyes flashed quickly around the interior of the coffee place. Her glance around ceased the second those pale blue eyes of hers settled on the dark haired girl occupying a table alone. Ariana studied her for a brief moment before moving up to the counter to order a large coffee black, and after paying for the drink Ari slowly walked off in the direction of her target to take a seat at the table just across from Dawn's.
"Excuse me." Ari spoke over to the girl the moment she had taken a seat at the table. "Could you possibly pass me over some sugar." Asking with a nod toward the small holder with packets of sugar stuffed into it once she had Dawn's attention.
Dawn blinked in confusion when she realized the blonde was speaking to her. "Oh, um, sure," she said, fumbling some of her papers when she reached for the container of sugar packets. "Here," she said, holding it out.
"Thanks." Smiling to the other girl as she accepted the sugar packets. "The girl at the counter seems to have forgotten to supply me with the sweet crystals for my coffee." Ariana explained peeling off the lid of her coffee to add the not really necessary sweetener. "You would think it would be something automatically given with the coffee." The blonde added while she stirred her coffee to mix the sugar will into the steaming brew.
"Yeah, it usually is," Dawn said. "Well, then again, they all know me here." She pushed aside her book. "I don't think I've ever seen you here before though. Are you new to the area?"
"God, you must think my manners flew back out the door when I came in." Ariana offered to the other girl with a bit of a sheepish smile. "Here I am babbling on without even having taken the courtesy of introducing myself. I'm Ariana," the blonde scooting over to the chair at her table that was closer Dawn and offered her hand out to the girl. "And yes, I'm new to the city. Visiting relatives actually." The blonde smiling ever so softly to the dark haired one.
Dawn shook her hand and smiled back, feeling the slightest bit on edge around the blonde, but unable to pinpoint why exactly. "I'm Dawn," she said. "I've been here a while. It's a pretty decent town."
"You must know your way around the city pretty well, then." Ariana said in return holding her hand in a brief shake a bit longer then was proper. Soft and warm it was to the touch and as her fingers grazed the wrist of the other girl, Ariana could feel the pulse beneath the skin. So like Gabrielle was she in looks that when she first entered the Sugar Shack, Ariana was taken back to the first time she met Gabrielle over one hundred years ago. "Perhaps you might be willing to show me around sometime?" The blonde vamp asking as she caught the other girl's gaze to look deeply into the soft pools of brown and made her will now Dawn's. She was quite the expert with this little ability of hers that trying to fight against it would only prove to be useless.
"Sure, I'd be glad to," Dawn said, not thinking about all of the warnings she had gotten through the years about being careful to trust strangers. "When would you like to go?"
"Tomorrow evening would be lovely." Ari smiled softly. "Shall we say meet here around eightish? Unless you might be free to play tour guide for a little while tonight, and we can continue tomorrow evening."
Dawn finally managed to break eye contact with Ariana and glanced down at the papers and books on the table. "I have a paper I need to finish," she said. "But tomorrow night should be fine. I can meet you here at eight."
"Splendid. I shall meet you have tomorrow at eight, then." Collecting her coffee Ariana then stood to her feet and caught Dawn's eyes again with that deep penetrating gaze of hers. "Be prompt, dear." She said, instilling the thought into the other girl's mind so she'd be mindful to arrive at the arranged time, lightly stroking a hand over the girl's dark silky mane. "And I am lovely to look at, aren't I that it is hard to keep from staring." Ari remarked softly as she continued to hold dark haired girl gaze so that she'd be compelled to answer in agreement when Ari lowered her eyes just a little bit to break contact leaving Dawn staring up at her.
"You are," Dawn replied, her tone slightly wooden. "I'll see you tomorrow at eight."
"Have a good evening, Dawn." Ariana offered with a faint nod before she turned, coffee in hand, to head off toward the door. Gabrielle had been so easily led, a pity that she had to go and get herself killed so soon after Ari had turned her. It wouldn't be the same with this pretty little replica of Gabrielle, Ariana would make sure of that. Nor would she rush to sire the girl. Ariana planned on getting to know the girl quite well before she'd attempt to make Dawn one of her own.
