What to Do Now?
Who: Mac and Buffy
Where: Buffy's Place
When: Afternoon - Friday, February 12th
Mac trudged up the stairs, arms snugged around her waist as the teen was not feeling all that well after leaving Ash's place, to knock at the front door of the house. After announcing her presence Mac shuffled away from the door to stand at the top of the stairs and stare out at the street as a re-enactment of what happened a bit earlier in the day looped through her head. She could kind of sympathize with Ash and what he was going through, but it still cut through her like a knife that he rejected her presence like he seemed to be doing with everyone else that had mattered in his life. Mac knew she couldn't turn to her cousin as the man barely knew Ash. The only person she felt she could turn to was behind the door she presently had her back turned to. At least Mac was hoping Buffy was home.
When Buffy heard the knock on the door, she walked out of her bedroom and peaked around. It seemed that neither Dawn or her mother were home right now, which, while a little bit odd, wasn't too out of the ordinary to arose any sort of suspicion. So, she walked down the stairs from her bedroom and answered it, seeing Mac sitting outside on her steps. "Mac?" She shut the door behind her and sat down next to her. "Hey, how are you?"
"He won't talk to anyone." Mac sighed out without a glance to the other girl when Buffy sat herself down on the top step. "He's going to do something bad, real bad, Buffy." and only then did the teen avert her worried dark eyes from the street to focus on the other girl. "And he won't be coming back from it. Not the Ash we know."
"I'm starting to worry that the Ash that we knew is already gone," Buffy said in defeat. "He sent me a letter, Mac. He resigned as my Watcher. He no longer wants to watch things happen, but make them happen, I think." Really, that had sort of confused her. 'No More Watching,' was what it had said, anyway. "I don't know if there's anything we can really do about it at this point, Mac, unless you know of something I don't. He's not taking calls or answering the door."
"He might be refusing to talk to anyone, but," Mac sighed then with the thought that what she found herself thinking might not work, "there still might be a way to get through to him." The teen looked to the older girl with a faint glimmer of hope in her eyes.
It took Buffy a second to catch what Mac was talking about. "Do you think that might work?" she asked Mac. Honestly, that may be the only way for them to try and get through to Ash at this point.
"I don't know." Mac told the other girl truthfully. "But I'd rather try and fail then not try anything at all to try and help him. After all you and Ash did for me this is the least I can do. I just hope it works."
"It would be great if it worked," Buffy said. "At this point, I think anything would be worth trying to see if it would actually help him." Of course, that would only work if he could still be helped, anyway.
"Someone has to try and reach him. I just hope this doesn't go all wrong and make things worse." And that was what worried Mac the most, that somehow her attempt to help would fail majorly and make things worse then they already were, though she wasn't sure how much more worse the situation could get at this point.
"I'm not sure how things could get much worse at this point, Mac," Buffy admitted to her. Really, there wasn't much that could get worse at this point, actually.
"I'll try tomorrow night." Mac relayed to the other girl hoping that waiting wouldn't be too late. This would be the first time Mac would be attempting a walk on her own, but she was sure she could handle it without things going terribly wrong. It would be after all a simple walk into a dream to just watch and not try to mess in any way with the dreamer's mind.
Buffy nodded. "Call me afterward and let me know how it went, ok?" she asked her. She wanted to make sure that Mac came through it fine without anything bad happening to her.
"I will. Unless... I'll call you and let you know what happened." Mac had, for a split second, considered asking Buffy to come over that night, but re-evaluated that thought as she was unsure as to just how things might go. Surely Damien would be home that night in case she caught herself in a bit of trouble.
"If you need anything, just let me know, OK?" Buffy asked her. She just hoped that Mac wasn't getting in over her head with this somehow. Hopefully Mac would be able to get through to him and they could put this behind them soon.
"I'll call you." Mac informed the other when she moved to step down the front stairs of the blonde's house. Mac had the some hope as Buffy, that she'd be able to get through the Ash so they could put all of this behind them.
