Asking Permission

Where: Phone Call
Rating: G
Status: Complete
Jon: Nervous wasn't even the word Jon would use to describe how he felt as he dialed the number to Avarice, a rock club owned by one Benjamin Bale, the alpha of Los Angeles. The only thing that kept Jon from chickening out completely was the fact his father, Xavier Marrok, had called a head of time to fill in Mr. Bale with the full details of his sons' visit to the area. Jon was unaware of what the two men spoke about, Xavier being the sort to not divulge too much information on anything. So when Jon held the phone to his ear, listening to the ringing, his stomach churned with tight knots. He really hoped he didn't screw this, his first adult task, up.
Ben: Ben, sadly, was juuuust a bit busy. And aggravated. He'd been inundated with calls all day: some from useless people seemingly bent on messing up every simple detail of his upcoming wedding, others from magazines wanting the full scoop on the recent bar brawl between two girls on his label. In other words? Ben was not amused. So it was no surprise to anyone who knew him that he answered his cell phone with a rather... snippy, "This had better be good. Who is it?"
Jon: Jon actually physically jumped when he heard the brutal answer on the other end of the line. It took him a couple of tries before he finally stuttered out his name and reason for calling. "Uh...M-mr. Bale? This is...this is uh...J-jon Marrok, Xavier's son?" It seemed like he had decided to make that call at the completely wrong time judging by Ben's tone that was thick with irritation.
Ben: "Well. Shit." Ben sighed, trying to force himself to sound nicer. There was little Ben could do to really honor his father's name now... and a chance at honoring one of his old debts? Like he'd miss this. "Jon. My.. apologies. You'd be amazed at how the ineptitude of others can tax your patience. Yes... I spoke with Xavier. How can I help you?"
Jon: Jon smiled at the apologetic offer, feeling a little less intimidated by such a simle gesture. "That's okay, Mr. Bale. Dad is a busy man too so I know how it gets some times." He paused a moment, letting out a one breath laugh, though there was no humor to anything they were discussing. Just more evidence of his nervousness. "Uhm but anyway, I was calling to formerly as permission for Ash and I to come into your territory. I think I said that right? This is a first for me, so, forgive me if I sound like a total jackass." Jon cringed instantly as the swear word escaped his mouth. It was one of his faults, a mouth like a sailor and he prayed he didn't offend the older wolf.
Ben: "Of course. My family isn't quite as... traditional in that aspect. Don't screw with me and mine, and you'll be fine. But... I do appreciate the gesture." He smiled, having almost forgotten what it was like to deal with other lycans, not among his kin. "I told your father I would keep an eye on you both. This is a tough time for a lot of us... a tragedy has just hit us. But please... come to see me. I'll do my best to accommodate you both, even now."
Jon: "Yes, he told me about the conversation you guys had, vaguely" Jon replied, nodding even though Ben could not see it. He wasn't aware though of the full details of that conversation and knew it wasn't the time to ask. "I can promise you Mr. Bale, Ash and I aren't going to be causing any trouble. I'm just wanting to go to school as is Ash. Nothing to where we should get in the way of anything, sir." He wanted to ask about the tragedy but decided it would be too rude to do so.
Ben: "Good. I owe this to your father... but I assure you, right now? Trouble is the LAST thing any of us need." God... between the drama between Rachelle and Meeghan, and now the death of Lucy Van Warren... Ben honestly thought he might snap if anything else bad happened right now.
Jon: Jon was clever enough to determine there had to be some great deal of drama going on in Mr. Bale's life from just his tone of voice. "Again, you have my word, there will be no trouble from us" he reassured the older wolf. "After Ash and I are settled in, we'll come to your club, Avarice, to meet you properly. You have my cell number so you can let us know when is a good time for you."
Ben: "I will do that. I will have... a funeral to attend in the next few days. Other than planning for that, it shouldn't be a problem." God, it hurt to say that. He tried to be an asshole, a prick... it made him feel stronger. But he felt it, deep inside: knowing Lucy was dead made him sick to his stomach.
Jon: "Oh, sir. I am so sorry to hear that. My condolences please, sir." Jon knew the agony of death all too well and to hear someone else dealing with it, he could greatly sympathize.
