An Experiment in Love
Who: Lucie & Azrael, TBC in tags
Where: Hell
When: Monday evening (Dec. 14th, backdated)
With his tie at half-mast, the shirt collar unbutton, his suit coat drapped across the back of the chair, Azrael looked more rumpled than usual. It was probably due to the fact that the fallen angel was lieing to his boss, someone who's side he'd been at for millenia, slept next to for millenia, and in some twisted way, loved for millenia. But Azrael could not, would not, let Lucie go through with this plan to release all four of the Horsemen. Humanity had it's flaws...but that's exactly what made them human, he thought as he watched Clarity Myles on Lucie's large screen television.
Lucie came in from making a few deals on earth and checking in on how the circles were doing. She walked into the throne room, and looked at Azrael.
The fallen angel changed the channel, pretending as if he had been checking on Priscilla and Thanatos. Priscilla's...destruction, was a little more widespread and noticable than Thantos', which was honestly to be expected given the differences in their nature. His usual stoic expression was in place, his voice monotone, "...Everything is proceeding as planned."
"Good, you've been keeping busy lately.." She said. Oh yeah she'd noticed the difference in his behavior for the past several weeks now, he was trying desperately to hide something from her and Lucie was getting tired of it. "Thanatos found himself a new target, he hasn't actually caught her yet though." She sighed. "You know he doesn't normally take this long to get the job done."
"Some people are stubborn when it comes to dying, L." A smile twitched on his lips briefly, and he tilted his head back to look at her, "Perhaps this person is special. I mean...It's Death, after all, he works just as mysterious as The Man."
"Don't be cute, she should be dead by now I don't care if she has Lindsey. Besides it can't last, she hasn't even told him how she feels about him. Granted I did it for her,but it's not like he believes me. Which I'm getting really tired of people just always assuming that I'm always lying to them."
Azrael's attention had returned to the TV and the fallen angel had to laugh at the last thing she said. He tilted his head again, look at her, teasing, "Gee...I wonder why that is?"
"Hey I did not start that." he started to tease her about the lying thing. "Now Lindsey's trying to help her." Lucie fumed.
"Really." Azrael chuckled, turning in the chair and rising to his knees so that his arms could rest across the back. "So, what do you call it? Truth Bending?" The fallen angel looked over his shoulder at the TV again and shrugged, "Like that's going to stop you."
"I guess we could call it that." She replied about the lying. "Oh, I'm making sure I get Lilah Morgan even if I have to do it myself." Lucie told him.
Azrael watched her in silence, his gaze roaming over the curve of Lucie's cheek. Noting the determination in her eyes, the set of her jaw. He wished, again, that things had turned out different. But L, was L, and there was nothing Azrael could do to change her. She was stubborn like that. "I thought you got all of Wolfram & Hart's employee's."
"Not all of them apparently..." There were a few that somehow managed to escape her over the years.
Curious, Azrael asked, "...Why her?" Dropping his chin in the palm of his hand, the fallen angel regarded it's master silently. He was curious why she was so interested in this Lilah Morgan.
"Because she's irritating and she's trying to get out of dying." She was annoyed at the woman for more than that.
Azrael reached out toward Lucie, grabbing her by the collar of whatever she happen to be wearing and chuckled, "That's not why you want her." Gently, he pulled L closer, a faint smirk on his lips.
She looked at him a little annoyed at him for pulling on her shirt. "Oh really then why do I want her?"
"You tell me." He said before finally pulling her in for kiss.
She smiled and kissed him back. "She'd maybe fun to torture.." She told him, even though it wasn't only one reason.
Azrael arched a brow at her, pushing a lock of Lucie's hair behind an ear, "...And that's all? Seems an awful lot of work for you just for one soul." He traced the tip of his finger over the contours of her lips before dragging it over the curve of her chin and down her neck.
"That's not all..." She sighed and looked at him. "She's not prettier than me is she? I mean you've seen her.."
To answer her question, Azrael pulled Lucie into another kiss and then murmured against her lips, "No one is more beautiful than you, L..."
She smiled and kissed him back. "True, but he finds her prettier than me I can tell, and it's annoying."
Azrael pulled away at that, crossing his arms again and resting them on the back of the chair. He looked away, "...Should it matter?"
"No, but it does and I'm not sure why." She sighed. "Maybe I've been spending too much time around them."
Maybe this was incredibly Dr. Phil of him, but Azrael had to ask, "How does that make you feel?" Okay, so he was curious! Lucie had just a high disregard for the mortals, that he had to know how her time spent with this Lilah and Lindsey was affecting her.
"Massively annoyed mostly." She told him. Most humans she could care less about, but there was something about Lindsey that she really liked.
"But?" Azrael asked quietly, his attention focused on the far wall.
"But what?" She asked him.
His gaze immediately flicked back to her at her words, "...I know you, L." Az said just as quietly, just as stoically, his expression deadpan. That usually meant he was trying to hide what he was feeling, "You never show this much interest unless you want something from them." He paused and then quickly added before she could say anything, "Besides their soul."
Lucie shrugged. "I like him, he's interesting for a human."
Was Azraeal jealous? Of a human? Maybe a little. When Lucie paid attention to him, it was only when she lost interest in the humans who occupied her time. Once she acquired their soul, her attention wandered back to him. And the fallen angel stupidly (blindly?) remained at her side, regardless.
"You know there was a time when I showed up and people feared me. Now? They think it's a big joke, espcially Lindsey and Lilah. Of all the people that should take me seriously, it should be them given their work." They didn't of course.
Getting off the chair, Azrael moved around to pull her into his arms again, smoothing his hands along her hair. "Who cares about them? Just another couple of souls, right?"
"I guess, but they're not as stupid as the others."
"L...they work for Wolfram & Hart, of course they're smarter than the average soul you collect." Azrael guessed thats why she had shown a particular interest in them.
"Well they may be smarter than the average mortal in everything, but they're highly in denial."
The fallen angel quirked a brow at that, his gaze questioning as Azrael laid a hand on her waist and took her hand. Dipping her, Az stole a kiss before righting them and swayed with Lucie to quiet little tune he hummed.
She smiled and kissed him back. "He's in love with her, but can't bring himself to actually tell her. So I've decided to do a...well lets call it an experiment." She smirked a little as she explained
Azrael chuckled and twirled Lucie, "You and your experiments...what torture are you going to put them through?"
"I want to see if loosing her breaks him or not." She answered simply with a smile.
