Having a Chat
Who: Mere and Lucy
Where: Chloe's Sugar Shack
When: Saturday Night, Nov. 7

Mere had actually wanted to see Lucy tonight. Figuring that, if she was anything like her sister, she would be hanging around the Sugar Shack, getting her fix before going out somewhere or another for the night. Mere wanted to talk to Lucy about something. Well, someone. It wasn't that Mere still carried a full fledged torch for Ash or anything. No, she was actually in love with Devon now. Fully and completely.

However, that didn't mean that she wanted to see him crushed again. She hoped that the girl would stick around for the long haul this time around, and not get scared off when things didn't go her way in some shape or form. Mere didn't think the girl a full fledged chicken or anything, but knew that, with her being so young, things can seem overwhelming. Hell, Ash could be overwhelming without trying sometimes. She just wanted to make a few things clear to Lucy was all.

"Actually, I'm looking for you," Mere said to her. She wanted to be on good behavior tonight, but she did feel the need to talk to the girl. "Got a few to hang out?"

The quizzical look on the girl's face would have been funny if it wasn't one og her stock expressions. Lucy was used to being a little out of the loop when it came to the whole "supernatural" thing, though, and she figured that having a conversation with a vampire, one-on-one, was kind of supernatural...even for her.

"Uh, sure." She flashed a smile and a bouncy little shrug, her blonde ponytail bobbing to and fro as she stepped out from behind the counter and motioned to one of the tables. "What's going on?"

"It's nothing bad," Mere said to her when the look of confusion crossed Lucy's face. She was glad when the girl came around the counter and flashed her a grin. She certainly was a bubbly thing. Complete opposite of Ash. Maybe that was good for him, though.

"Not much is going on, though." Mere sat down at one of the tables in the room and invited Lucy to sit down across from her with a gesture with her arm. "How's it going with you?"

Dropping down across from Mere, Lucy shrugged in that typical teen way, rolled her eyes, and grinned. "Oh, it's, you know, it's the usual. School, homework, sugar, Ash, shopping - Oh! Have you heard? Did Chloe tell you?" The blonde brightened and sat up straighter as she sipped her coffee. "I think Van Warren's getting back together. Isn't that so cool? I miss playing with them and it'd just be SO awesome to get to perform live again." Being in front of a crowd was always a rush for her.

Mere nodded, having heard Chloe basically explode about how they were starting up Van Warren again. It was kind of like Van Halen, but with hot chicks and Kevin instead of Eddie Van Halen and whomever they had singing for them this week. "Good to hear that," Mere said. "How are things going with Ash?"

At the mention of Ash, the girl didn't show any signs of mellowing out, but only smiled wider and got a dreamy sort of look in her bright blue eyes as she swung her legs idly back and forth beneath the table. "Great? Better than great," Lucy asserted. "I...can't even explain it. How it feels just to be with him. He's so amazing."

"He can be a pretty impressive guy," Mere agreed. "I...I care a lot about him, Lucy. He was the first guy I ever really cared about. I want to make sure that he's taken care of for the rest of his life." It wasn't like she couldn't watch out for him, after all. "He deserves to be happy, and your sunniness is like, the light of his life." She laughed. "Sorry, babble Mere has come to visit."

Lucy laughed...mostly. She wasn't sure what to make of whatever Mere was really trying to say, but the one thing Lucy could talk about all day (aside from music, guitars, and D&G's Spring '01 line) was Ash.

"He says that too," she grinned, but shook her head. "But really...he's just as good for me. I mean, I know he thinks I'm all happy and...sweet and...yeah, my life hasn't been anything like his. The worst thing that's ever happened to me...was probably what happened to Kev. And Ash fixed that. He didn't have to and...like...who else could...or would...even do something like that? But he did. And I know he did it for me. That's not why I love him, I mean, duh. It just...means a lot to me. He means a lot to me. Like...everything."

It was actually a little easier for her to talk to realize that Lucy wasn't quite getting it. A little easier to bear her soul when she wouldn't get shit for it. "I think you guys are good for each other," Mere said. "You make each other better." She was happy, so he deserved to be happy as well.

"I think we do too." On that, Lucy could wholeheartedly agree. "I know some people aren't good at being optimistic," she said as she took another sip of her frozeny coffee treat, "but everything about me and Ash is real, y'know? Like...the forever kind of real. I just know it."

Mere smiled at her. "Good, because, if you weren't in this for the long haul, I might have something to say about it." Even with the smile on her face, she felt quite serious about that. "Just, take care of him, alright?"

Lucy, in a rather unusual manner, was actually quiet for a moment. It didn't escape her who and what Mere was. But that didn't stop her from straightening her spine a bit and meeting the vampire girl's gaze head-on. She knew what she'd done and she knew maybe not everyone could understand. Mere was strong and she'd survived what she'd been through, but if you asked Lucy? This place was filled with a whole bunch of scary crap. Like, way above and beyond the usual level of scary crap. She didn't worry about normal things like walking home and getting mugged. She worried about some freak taking a chunk out of the side of her neck. She worried about people...things...like Paige - what they could do and how they could possibly be so mean-spirited and downright...evil. In the truest sense of the word.

But she hadn't run and she wasn't planning to, because even more than she needed to be back in her own safe, sane little world (which she'd already found out was impossible) - she needed Ash.

"You can say what you want, Mere. I can take it. I know you care about him. But I love Ash and nothing's going to change that, no matter what happened in the past. Nothing anyone says about him, nothing he does, could possibly change the way I feel about him. And I'm not running this time. He's where I want to be. For better or worse."

When Lucy said that, the smile stayed on Mere's face, but her eyes softened just a tad. "That's what I want to hear," she said, standing up slowly from the table. "I've got my eye on you, kid. You're what Ash both wants and needs, and, well, as his friend, I'm around to see that he gets those."

Mere didn't want to scare the girl. She actually liked Lucy. She's a sweet kid. Still, she didn't want to see Ash getting hurt, and she didn't want to see what he could do when he was hurt. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. She wanted Lucy to realize that, maybe, she was what was keeping Ash from doing just that. Going evil again.
