Late Night Goodbyes
Who: Baily, David, and Derek
Where: Avarice
When: Tuesday Night
Baily sat at the bar at Avarice, enjoying a beer to herself. Sure, she was technically underage, but no bartender questioned her when she ordered a drink to herself. She was Ben's cousin and, as long as he didn't protest, no one messed with her. Besides, if one really decided to put up a fuss, she'd probably hit them tonight. She was about to go into a battle. A kickass battle, for sure, but a huge one that *some* people might not come back from. She knew she was coming back, though. She wasn't going into this for vengeance, so it wasn't like her head would be clouded with that. She was a little worried about Ben, but she still figured that he'd be fine in the end.
Ducking down a little so that his massive frame didnt knock anything over, David Cromwell came walking into the mostly empty club. He was glad that it was early enough, that people hadn't started pouring in yet... he wanted some time to talk to his family before drinking his way into oblivion on this night. He'd just picked Lucy up from school, and said his peace to her, just in case. Even gave her the spare key to his bike. So now, the big man walked into Avarice, smiling as he saw Baily, and walked right over to her, wrapping her in a big, loving bearhug.
Baily was a little surprised by the hug but, once she realized who it was, turned around and hugged him back. Still, he wasn't usually the hugging type, so this was a little odd. "So, what's up?" she asked, looking up at him.
"Gee." David gave her a bit of an incredulous glare. "Can't imagine. Hm. Oh yes... we're all going off to WAR tomorrow, there's always that..." he started laughing then. One thing about the Bales... they never looked at a fight as a bad thing. And to David's credit... he knew what a boon Baily could be in a fight. "Ready to rip some demon bitches up, kid?"
"Most definitely," Baily agreed about being ready to tear some bitches up. She was so ready for this. She was feeling downright ready to whip some demon and vampire ass, well, except Mere's ass. And that Spike guy. Those two got reprieves, but no others that she came across. "You're looking pretty damn ready yourself. Where've you been?"
"Seeing... well... the one real friend I've made here. Makin' sure she knows that if anything happens to me, that she can have my bike, and to stay the hell away from Ben." He really HAD been serious about that.
"You gave the kid permission to take your bike?" Now that was something that sounded like something from a bad writer's dream. "Well, you certainly told her right about staying away from Ben, but I'm not even sure girly can handle a bike that big. Besides, you're coming back."
"Fuckin' right I am..." David snorted, grabbing a beer from behind the bar. "But hey... just on the off chance something happened... I don't want just anyone gettin' my bike, you know? Things my baby."
"If the bike is your baby....then you need to get laid...bad," Baily said to him. "Seriously, I bet you could nail a hot girl in here tonight. Go ahead and go after it." She finished off her beer and fished herself out another one. "Still, she'll at least need lessons."
"I've been laid plenty of times, smart-ass." He shot back, although clearly... the joking hurt more than he was letting on. While he was a big, tough man... he had a soft heart. "Speaking of such... where's your little slice of normal? Shouldn't you be getting biblical instead of hanging around here?"
"I know you've been laid plenty of times, ya goon. Still, one more for the road wouldn't be a bad idea," Baily told him with a smirk. "And my little slice of normal is on his way, I think." She knew that he was supposed to come, but it was more of a general thing than a specific time.
"Do me a favor, ok?" David sobered up a bit there, reaching over to put a hand on Baily's comparatively small shoulder. "I have no doubt that I'm coming back, ok? I mean that. But you also know anything can happen. Just in case... keep an eye out on the kid for me? City like this... she's gonna need someone to watch out for her."
"Sure, David, I'll make sure that the kid is taken care of," Baily said with a nod. "Don't worry about her. She will be under the official protection of Baily Bale in case something happens. Hell, she can be under my protection anyway, if you'd like."
He laughed again, ruffling the girl's hair. "I like that. This way, when we come back, she'll have two bad-ass werewolves watching her back."
"Girl will never be able to go around and be normal with us all over her back," Baily joked. "I can't believe that one girl needs so much watching. Then again, we do have to protect her from Ben."
"That's how I met the munchkin. Ben was trying to offer her one of his patented 'tours'." He said with a smirk. "Had to threaten to get the hose."
Baily shuddered. "Maybe it's because I'm his cousin, and we're not from Kentucky, but I just don't get it. What's the appeal of Ben?"
With that rough laugh, David shook his head. "I think most girls not as smart as you just dig the whole 'rich bad boy' thing." That was his best guess, anyway. "Anyway.... I think you have a visitor." He motioned behind Baily, where Derek was coming through the door, looking a little worse for wear, stress-wise.
Baily looked over at the door. "Rich bad boy does nothing for me, I guess," she said as she saw Derek. She gave him a slight smile and wave. "He doesn't look happy."
"Again. Gee. I wonder why." He smirked, teasing her a little. "Time for you to endure a 'why do you have to go?' speech, kid..."
"Ugh," she said under her breath. "Not looking forward to this. I think this is something I need to do solo, though. Remember what I said, though. Girls go for the big tattooed guy thing as well."
"Duly noted." He chuckled, giving her a playful punch to the shoulder. "See you in the morning kid. Don't let the boy make you too tired, got it?"
She rolled her eyes. "Yeah, get going," she said with a wave of her hand. She looked over to Derek and watched as he walked up.
Derek had been playing the strong-willed tough guy all week. But now... on the eve of her actually leaving, he was quickly unravelling. "Baily. You can't do this. You can't go. Look... let's just... just leave. Now. My parents drink so damn much they'll never even realize I'm gone."
She sighed. She had known this was coming, although she would have rather of avoided it. "You know, everything thinks that I'm only doing this because I'm itching for a good fight," she said. "Let them have that two dimensional picture of me. Suits them fine and I could give a fuck what they think on that account. You get truth, though. You deserve that. I'm doing this for you, Derek. So that none of us have to fear getting jumped on the street by Wolfram & Hart thugs. For...I don't know...puppies and kitties and shit. I'm doing this because it's right, too. Leaving won't fix that."
"I know... but I'm being selfish here." He had no trouble admitting that. "You're like no girl I've ever met, Baily. And I dont mean that just in the 'you turn into an animal' kind of way. You get me. You understand me. And I suck at this emotional crap, but I can't lose you, ok? All I have is my shitty family, and a few partial friends... you're the only person who REALLY relates to me."
"Well, didn't exactly say that this was gonna be easy," Baily admitted. "You should move in with me," she blurted out before really thinking about it. "You know, if your family sucks that hard."
He laughed, wondering if she meant that or if it was panic talking. "Well... you come back to me safely... and we'll talk about it. I promise."
She nodded. She wasn't even sure if she would still want to do so when she got back. She did want him to be taken care of, and his family was a big ball of suck. "Sure, we'll talk about it. But I'm coming back, though. No question about that."
"You better." He had no joked to make, no snarky comment to throw at her. "You leave in the morning, right?"
"Yeah, before dawn, actually. Got to take care of the vampires as well, you know," Baily said to him with a sigh.
"Mind if... if I spend tonight with you?" He kept going before she could get the wrong idea. "I don't care if we do anything... I just wanna hold you. I can't just... let you go, not without knowing I got to have at least one perfect night with you."
Baily smiled at him. "Sure, I can spend the night with you," she said to him. "I can give you one perfect night."
"Just... just let me hold you, and kiss you... and it'll be perfect." His fear was almost palpable... and it should be noted that somehow, Baily, the one actually going into battle, was far less frightened than he was. Derek knew that while they were far from the most romantic couple around (hell, they acted more like best friends who screwed, half the time), it was time for something that didn't happen nearly enough. "Baily? I... I love you. Very much."
"Derek..." God, this was awful. She didn't like him feeling like this. Relationships sucked sometimes, well, when they made people feel like this. "I love you, too. You know that. Don't be so scared, OK? I know I'm coming back, so you should know it, too, OK?"
"Just come back to me, ok? We'll have plenty of time for angst, speeches, and all this crap later when we're older." Yeah, this was typical Derek/Baily right here. "I don't want this to turn into tears or whining, or drawn-out emo speeches. Just... come back to me."
"No, we have enough emo going on around here," Baily said with a shake of her head. "No more emo is needed. Let's get out of here then, shall we?"
"Yeah. Let's do it..." He said, trying not to panic any more. There's be plenty of time for that, tomorrow.
