The Outcomes
Who: Darlene Wolff & Laura Sapphire (NPC) Where: 1st CEF Headquarters, Sagittaron When: Y02 Dec 28
The concern for Darlene was the new security head of the Admiral’s personal guard, Lieutenant Mariell. Darla’s job was to stay close to the Admiral and when the time was right, she would receive further instruction but with this new arrival came new obstacles to overcome. Having recently attended a security briefing with the Lieutenant, it was clear that under her watch the Admiral was closely guarded as if he was a Colonial treasure which meant Darlene would find it difficult to keep in his inner circle. Something had to be done.
After placing a call to her superiors at the Burnwood Institute in Sagittaron, they agreed to send a representative to review the situation and determine if Darlene’s fears were warranted and if so, try to find a way to solve it. Laura Sapphire became that person, that operative tasked with the duty.
Earlier in the day, Darlene spotted by chance Ms. Sapphire entering the Lieutenant’s office and their meeting seemed to last a while so Darla retreated to her office space to wait anxiously for the outcome. She made it look like she was reviewing some civilian contracts so the person she shared her office with did not suspect something.
It wasn’t long until the door to her office opened up and Laura Sapphire stepped through it, glasses over her eyes, briefcase in hand and coat draped over her arm. “Captain Wolff, a moment if you will.” She immediately spotted the other person in the room.
Darlene looked from Laura and then to her colleague at the other desk in the office and raised a smile, “Charlotte, would you mind getting some coffee?” She knew it was her colleagues turn. They had a rota and Charlotte was too nice not to do it. As Charlotte nodded and vacated the office with two mugs in her hand, Darla pointed to the seat in front of her desk for Ms. Sapphire to take.
“You’re right, we have a problem.” Laura moved away from the door after she made sure it was closed, her feet carrying her to the seat the Captain pointed to where she sat down.
“How so?” Darla had suspected this result would come but wanted the details.
Removing her glasses and folding them, “She still loves the service despite her demotion. She can’t be bought or enticed into working for or even sympathising for us.” Laura crossed her legs again and leaned back in the chair, her things placed neatly to the side of it.
“So what you’re saying is....” Darlene did not get the chance to finish her sentence.
“She is a serious concern for your duties in this office.” Laura finished off the sentence for Darla with an expression of concern as her superiors would not be happy about her report.
It was to be expected but hearing someone else, an outsider by all accounts say it made Darlene need to ask the question. “Why? Why serious?”
Laura leaned forward in her chair, “She drew her firearm and pointed it at me, suggests she is highly conscientious about her work here.”
“She drew her firearm? What did you do to provoke her?” Darlene felt like something was trapped in her throat because she knew her superiors were expecting results, serious and prompt results and if this new security head was going to hinder operations then it was not good.
“Yes.” Laura reached for her briefcase and removed the file and tossed it onto the desk of Darlene’s. “This is her file, I suggest you study it at length so you know who you are dealing with, might help. In the meantime, you must continue your task by any means necessary.”
Darla picked up the folder and listened to the instructions of Laura before interrupting for more questions to be asked, more concerns to be raised. “What does that mean; any means necessary?”
Laura raised a smirk in the corner of her mouth, “Captain, we both know what it means.” Laura reached into her briefcase again and pulled out a smart phone, placing it down on the desk and hitting a button to display the picture of a blond woman, dressed in Colonial officer markings, bullet holes in her head. “Remember your handy work?”
Upon seeing the pictures, Darla looked up at Laura with a slight glare because she did nothing but remember that day, that assassination. Images, sensations flooded her being at that moment, the feeling of when she took a life. “Yes, I remember her.”
“Good because your hands are not clean Captain so do not pretend to be surprised by our methods.” Laura uncrossed her legs and retrieved her smart phone. “The Lieutenant will be watched closely by us, your job Captain is the same - stay close to the Admiral and wait for further orders.”
Tossing the file on the desk, “I know what my job is but the Lieutenant....” Darla was ready to plead about the difficulty one Colonial Officer in-charge of the military personal guard for the Admiral would be but was cut short.
“Is our problem Captain!” Laura blunted stated while picking up her things and getting onto her feet, ready to walkout and continue with her day.
Darlene knew when to shut up when it came to Burnwood. She remained silent but nodded her understanding to her business suited contact. She would remember her task if only to avoid the punishment of failure. Darla didn’t need some Burnwood operative reinforcing it.
Laura had a low opinion of Darlene due to the fact she failed her last mission but her orders were to evaluate the concerns presented by the Captain and report back. She had done that and therefore saw no reason why she needed to stay any longer. Her superiors would be expecting a report in order to produce a plan of action to aid the Captain’s task now that Lieutenant Mariell was a confirmed obstacle. “We’ll be expecting results this time so don’t frak it up!” She turned around and started out the office with intent to head to Burnwood’s local headquarters in Sagittaron.
Having suffered the ridicule, Darlene nodded and accepted that she was being watched and that her superiors wanted immediate results. Having Laura state the obvious didn’t help but it did make her think actively, give her that kick in the rear to know that her superiors weren’t messing around and that timetable they were talking about was indeed important and not to be missed or the consequences would be severe. She started looking at the file left on her desk only as a means to knowing her enemy.
