Looking Forward
WHO: Jon Randall & Blake Hayward
WHERE: Hayward’s Duty Locker, Avalon
WHEN: Morning 05 Dec Y02
The weeks of stress were at an end as the murder inquiry of Lt. Selwyn was officially closed when word was sent from Caprica that morning. It cleared command of any responsibility for breach of security while in maintenance dock over Caprica. Then the business of the ceremonial activities was finally out of the way. There was no fallout with the air accident on Tauron. Everything was good, and much improved Jon’s attitude. So when he buzzed the hatch to Blake’s quarter he was very cheerful.
It had been a while since her last examination and even longer since she had seen Jon but ship’s business was always his first concern and she respected that if not being a little bitter considering the circumstances. She was happy, no complications in the pregnancy and everything was seeming picture perfect. When an audible buzz was heard, Blake approached the hatch and opened it up. “Sir” Her response was official because of the passersby and also because of her little bitterness.
“Vixen,” he smiled using her call sign. He peered behind her. “Are you alone?”
“Not exactly.” She said placing a hand over her abdomen.
He glanced down briefly. He could barely tell that a life was growing inside her because it did not show yet. “Huh? Your pregnant?” he over acted surprised. Jon was only playing and it shown with his smile.
She smirked knowing that he was only teasing. “Yeah, didn’t you get the memo?”
“Time to get rid of the clerk,” he then invited himself into the quarters, and closed the hatch behind him. “Is it healthy?” He asked not yet knowing the sex of his child. Jon had been too busy to follow up, and to be honest a little afraid.
“Yes, we are both healthy.” She added herself into that question to save it being asked later.
“Good,” he paused for a moment. “I know I’ve been a jerk about it, and I’m sorry.” He lifted a hand to her face gently. “I care for you deeply, and I’m ready to be a father.”
“Please don’t be frakking with me right now Jon.” She stood still, face leaning into his touch.
“I had a job offer last month, and I might take it if the offer still stands after this deployment. I want my child to grow up with a father who is around.” Jon was an orphan, who never knew his parents. “And if you will have me around.” He laughed.
Blake almost wanted to break into tears but she was stronger than that, she was tough. “Of course I want you around; this is your baby as much as it is mine.”
He leaned forward and kissed her quickly on the lips. Backed off a few inches. “I’m glad it’s you.”
“Glad what is with me?” she asked.
“That you are having my child silly.” he said.
“Oh...that.” Blake chuckled.
“Airhead,” he teased. “I arranged with the CMO to have you off the clock this evening, so you can come with me to Tauron for twenty four hours of liberty.” He did not kid about that. “I know this perfect restaurant just outside Gladius Cross.”
“I’m not going to argue, I’m eating for two now.” she responded.
He nodded. “Meet me at my quarters at seventeen hundred hours. Bring a bag, and wear something nice for a night out on the town.” Jon only had a few minutes before he had to report to CIC.
“Oh you say the most romantic things. I’ll be there.” Blake replied with a smile on her face.
He kissed her again before leaving. When he left, he hoped that he had not given anything away. Jon wanted to surprise her if he was going to make this work. How hard would it be? He’d done this twice before.
Once Jon left, Blake went about getting some things together for this trip he sprung on her. It might just work out, how she planned it, having a father for her baby.
