Baby acceptance
WHO: Blake Hayward, NPC Infirmary Nurse & Jilleen Simmons via email
WHEN: Y2002 Dec 2, Evening
WHERE: Avalon
Blake sat on the bed looking out at nothing; thinking about everything; her child, her relationship, her family. It was and is a giant mess with regret mounting with each moment. Her eyes caught the movement of medical staff; working away on the injured and sick; what was her job. She had to accept that going forward her duties would be restricted. Perhaps her career was the sacrifice for this little miracle growing inside.
She lowered her head and looked at her abdomen area; her baby and almost by instinct she placed a hand over her tummy, feeling that motherly instinct or perhaps regret for what the baby now stood for. Could I really do this? Blake closed her eyes and let the worries slip away as she listened to what she was feeling; her baby which was on the way...her baby. It didn’t matter that her career might be the consequence or that her relationship with Jon was on the rocks; this was her baby and nothing was going to stop her from having it, no one.
A breath was all she needed. Her eyes remained closed as her imagination built a picture; her life as it was shaping now; life as a mother. Blake knew it would be tough, doing it alone but she had no choice in the matter. Jon was less than enthusiastic; she couldn’t blame him since he was married and all that.
“Lieutenant, are you alright?” A voice broke into her subconscious it seemed.
Her eyes opened and readjusted to the light, the on duty nurse. “Sorry?”
“Are you alright?” The question was repeated.
“Oh...yes...I was...just thinking.” Blake raised a halfhearted smile of reassurance.
“Listen; the Major wants you to go home; he said that is an order.” The nurse past on the message and returned to her duties. The infirmary was run by a sympathetic and patient Major with a vast experience in medicine and life - Blake kind of thought of him like a second father in a way.
Blake smirked, nodding her head, “Alright. Tell the old man thanks.” She got to her feet and started for the exit from the infirmary, knowing that she would be in a little while; a patient once more. Now she left as a flight surgeon but soon she could be leaving as a mother. That in itself was a frightening thought and one not to be dwell on too long.
Once she returned to her quarters free from her shift in the infirmary; Blake went to work in replying to emails which she had fallen behind in over the past couple of days.
Jill,
Hey! That is great news! I have a surprise!
