Crossroads WHO: Darlene Wolff & Callie Morgan WHEN: Morning Y2002, Dec 1 WHERE: Wolff’s Bunkroom, Avalon
A month, one whole month had past and for certain entities it was a period of time which had proved fruitful in their quest. It however did not bring ease to Darlene Wolff. Casting her mind back just one month and everything was fine; her life was balanced until her latest assignment brought back old memories and fresh wounds. Callie Morgan.
Darlene lay in the dark in her private bunk space; a gift from her employers, thinking about how this all happened; how she ended up back in service and on board Avalon where Callie Morgan was. It had to be known; her file was on record and Callgirl must have been under the listed previous relationships – they must have known she was aboard Avalon right?
The blonde looked to her left at the body lying next to her; a subordinate perhaps, no. It wasn’t like that. Callie wasn’t someone she considered lower in authority. She was and is an equal so that wasn’t it. That wasn’t what kept her awake some nights; most nights. A hand; soft and gentle reached out from under the covers to brush a few stray hairs from her company’s face but only for a moment as Callie rolled over with her back towards Darla. She was beautiful; enchanting; a dream from the past.
It was difficult to just lie there and not think about the past; the time they shared and everything else that had happened in between their seemingly destined crossing of paths but things were different now. Callie was respected; Darlene was the new person to grace the bulkheads of Avalon and was still seen to be filling someone’s position when they weren’t even cold yet. She remembered that person; her predecessor. A month couldn’t shake the image of death from her subconscious nor could it be erased from her conscience. Maybe, just maybe she had been in this game too long and that…lying here now; rekindling past love with Callie was a sign…a sign from the Lords of Kobol that maybe she was now on the wrong path. Just maybe….
Callie groaned as she rolled back over; her eyes opening to see Darlene lying there almost in a trance; she spoke but a whisper in her direction; “Dar, are you alright?” A hand equal in sensitivity reached out and cupped the side of the blondes face. She had grown used to being in this bed and she knew the many faces of Darlene Wolff well.
Darla snapped back; taking a breath and smiled softly at Callie; “Of course; why wouldn’t I be?” She rolled her own body so they were more face to face; less contorted and she smiled a little more; “I’m with you…again…so what could be wrong with me?”
“I don’t know, you just seem…lost to me.” Cal stared longingly into Darlene’s eyes; seeking something to answer her question but nothing was forthcoming. She knew that the Ice Queen; Darlene Wolff wasn’t one to be open about feelings but still.
The worst part was pretending; acting like everything was perfect when in honesty this was all a ploy to get what she; her employers wanted. Darlene sighed motioning closer to Callie with a grin on her face; “I promise you; when I am with you I am not lost but found. I…was thinking…”
“About?” Callie was curious of nothing else as to what the thought was.
Darlene shook her head; “It doesn’t matter….not now.” She smiled and lightly kissed the top of Callie’s forehead; to reassure if nothing else. “Listen; I have the early watch but…dinner tonight?” Dar needed to remember one thing; her employers were succeeding in other areas while she had yet to achieve her task during the recent events which would and could have provided perfect cover.
“Yeah…alright, better make it a late dinner though…I’ve get some things to do.” Callie sat up on the bed, holding the sheet over her body and then wrapping it around her as she climbing up onto her feet and proceeded to get dressed before first watch of the day. It was agreed that neither herself nor Darlene wanted public eyes on them. She started to get dressed with the intention of leaving while Darla sat back to the rack watching, thinking again about what she had and could lose in the coming days. Her employers were anything but forgiving and her task was simple; she needed to do it…even if her reservations were mounting.
