Final Checks
The clutter and buzzing was the usual sound that could be associated with the deck, the vipers and raptors tied down while the Chief’s crew worked hard to keep the ships in as close to pristine condition as possible. It was always the center point of activity, the crucial area of defense that had many a person floating around the deck in their tangerine colored overalls. Callie marched along the walkway that overlooked the hanger deck, her eyes catching the pilot’s getting their birds worked on before the big training operation down below on Aerilon. The squadrons were to provide air-to-ground support in training and the reward for excellence was a leave of liberty.
Callie reached the steps that descended down to the deck and immediately started down them with a purpose in her step. She wasn’t wasting time, this may just be labeled a training exercise but her squadron wasn’t going to lose to rivals due to poor technical performance of their birds. “Chief” Her voice carried across the deck towards the ears of the deckhand in charge, the one that ran the deck.
After a few eyes returned to work, all except the Chief’s, Callie started across the deck, the top half of her flight suit folded down to around the waist. “Chief, how goes the repairs on my birds?” It wasn’t unusual for squadrons to have a little competition when it came to this sort of training missions just so long as the commanding officer or XO didn’t get wind of it. It was harmless fun.
“Captain, I’ve told you before, I can’t give you special treatment on my deck.” The Chief was a man of his word, always stuck to his guns and never really backed down, his deck, his rules sort of fellow. He was smart enough not to take sides.
She nodded, her hands placed on her hips, “I know…but I need them checked and double checked before the training mission on Aerilon. I’m not letting the Vampires beat us again…not if I have anything to do with it….”
The Chief looked over his staff as they worked and then cut back to the Captain with a mild smirk, “Oh yes, I heard about the stakes Captain. I have to say, a couple days leave would be really handy right now…for us all and eh, I hear you’ve added to the bet….something about….you being naked…” He crossed his arms almost smugly.
It never fails, the rumor mill always working overtime to make sure everyone knew everything about each other. Callie raised a sarcastic smile, “That’s right which is why I need all my bird’s working perfectly”
“Well to be honest Captain, I wouldn’t mind seeing what is under that…uniform” The Chief was male, that was evident and even he was a pig at times.
In that moment she felt regret for making that bet with her opposite number but still, it could be fun. “Thanks Chief, I knew I could count on you to be a pig as well.” She moved closer, almost breathing down his neck like a viper, “Just make sure my birds will fly Chief or I’ll be paying you a visit later…and eh not for a little preview…clear?” Call pulled back and winked, making sure he knew where he stood within this bet.
The Chief swallowed and then moved away, feeling a little tight around some places. Call smirked as her eyes followed him as he walked off leaving her to tend to her pilot’s and the birds with a limited time period before the real party got started. Callie walked off to patrol the deck, check in with her pilot’s and make some checks on her own birds.
