A soft noise of frustration and Lexi had a sudden wish for a horse, for the ability to go and ride until the wind stung her cheeks, until her head was clear and she was miles away from everything else.
"You said I destroyed your life, Elaine. I'm not going to sit here and have pie with someone who'd rather have me gone. I came over for company. You don't want mine. All I want is someone to goddamn want me." The last was said a little too loud, Lexi's teeth grinding together as she tried to stop from slamming her hand into the door.
