Who: Kara Thrace
What: Everybody come get drunk. Maybe play cards?
When: Evening
Where: Starbuck and Longshot's quarters - 16th floor, room 5
Rating: PG-13 likely, TBD otherwise
Open: to whomever would like to come play! Nudge to the BSG cast, look-a-likes, and other military folk! No posting order, threadjumping okay and expected!

Kara was adapting. Sam had moved in with her, so it was somewhat familiar. Not very, since she and Sam hadn't really lived together since New Caprica. They might have been in the same rack, but that didn't mean they were really a married couple. Not like the rest, who shared quarters away from the general population.

It was an adjustment, but one she was trying for. That was a change of pace, if nothing else.

That didn't mean Kara had decided to be domesticated. No, she needed to get out and mix it up with people. She might have felt isolated in her 'destiny' aboard Galactica, but she felt different here. That driving urge was gone. She could be herself again.

And herself wanted to drink. And play Triad. And maybe punch someone in the face. And maybe get punched in the face. She wanted to let go and enjoy herself for once, instead of worrying about Cylons and humanity and Vipers and her marriage and what she was frakking up now. And maybe it would give her a chance to reconnect with friends and a lover she'd pushed away, and make new connections.

Whatever the case, she was already plotting how long it would take her to get to shitfaced.

Helo made his way to Kara's room earlier than most. He had to have a chat with his friend about the going ons here and in the 'future'. He had a wife in the future, he knew that much, and the idea of that shocked the hell out of him. Kara'd gotten married too, which fairly well blew his mind.

He never saw himself as the married family man type, but hell, anyone could change given the right circumstances. He raised his hand and knocked on Kara's door. Wherever this Las Vegas was, if it was really on Earth, it was a frak of a lot better than Caprica.

Raising his hand, he knocked on Kara's door, bouncing on his heels.

"I said the door was frakkin' open. What do you need, a frakkin' invitation?" She pulled the door open, ready to prod whoever it was with a further ribbing, but saw Helo, and saw how anxious he was. They'd just talked, and he hadn't found anything out yet. Sighing, Kara stuck out an arm, pulling him into a hug and inside.

"Hey, Karl. Sit down." She motioned toward the couch, following after him and cracking open one of the bottles of whiskey she'd gotten her hands on. Someone called Jack Daniels seemed to make what Kara liked. Someone named Jose Cuervo had a really cruel idea of what made good booze, though.

She tipped the bottle back, then handed it over to Helo, sighing. "So, you found out nothing, huh?"

Karl managed a tight smile and he slid into the room, shrugging into the hug with Kara, having to stoop a little to do so. He walked into the spacious room, still unused to having quarters as large as these, and he made his way to the couch, sitting down.

"Yes sir." he murmured, leaning back into the comfortable cushions of the couch. He'd taken to sleeping on the one in his own room. He was making the gradual change to the large bed in the room, but still. After having slept on a rack for so long, moving to a bed was too jarring.

Reaching out, he grabbed the booze and shrugged. "I haven't been able to corner anyone yet. So...mind sharing with one hell of a confused ECO?"

Kara let out another sigh at his question. "Weird, but... Yeah. I can." She reached over and snagged the bottle back, then handed it to him once more. "I don't know how much you want to know, man. I mean... There's a lot. A whole hell of a lot. Not just your own personal stuff. Other shit has happened to."

She bit her thumbnail for a moment. "Gods this is all so frakked." She pushed a hand through her hair, then shrugged. "Alright, so. You're married. That's a big one. And you have a kid with her. Hera."

He managed to kick back a drink before he winced and then handed the bottle back, shrugging as he slouched. "I don't know how much I want to know. I mean, I figure everyone's gotta be dying to tell me everything I've missed...or haven't lived yet." He took the bottle back and took a longer drink this time, savoring the burn.

Helo paused, staring across the room for a long moment before he huffed. "I'm married...and I have a daughter. Hera." He thought about the name, a small smile quirking the side of his lips. "Good name. I'm not going to ask who, Kara, so don't tell me, alright. I don't want to know." He had thoughts, hopes, but...what if he got sent back to where he had been? What if telling him changed things? He didn't want to chance those things.

Kara nodded slowly, smiling. "She's a frakkin' cute kid, Karl. Seriously." She frowned, then nodded again. "Okay, I won't tell you who. That's going to be weird, but... It's your choice." She snatched the bottle back, took a long drink from it, then handed it back to Helo.

"So, I got married. Can you imagine it?" She grinned, shaking her head a little. "I suck at it, too. Shocking, right?"

"I just...don't want to jinx things." Helo smiled. He couldn't help it. The thought of having a daughter, especially a cute one, it made him feel a bit warm. Hopeful, because frak, a wife and kid sounded like one hell of a future for him. As wild as he'd been in flight school, he'd always wanted to settle down when he got a bit older. Now was a good time, right?

"No, I really can't." he sighed and bumped her shoulder, smirking. "You're probably being a little too hard on yourself, you know. How does he feel?"

"I get it. I won't tell you if you don't want me to. But if you get to wondering, and you really want to know, I'll tell you." She smiled right back at him, shaking her head. "It's still weird, y'know. You having a kid and all. I've almost gotten used to it."

Kara made a face at him. "I haven't told you the best part. He's Samuel T. Anders." She smirked and raised a brow, then shrugged at his question. "He loves me. He loves me a lot." She glanced at him, looking sheepish. "More than I've earned."

"If I get that itch, I'll let you know." He gave Kara a wry smirk and then reached for the bottle. He tilted it back, taking a drink, and he pursed his lips. "Glad you've gotten used to it, Kara."

He nearly did a spit take and his eyes got saucer wide. Helo was a big time Pyramid fan. He bet on games back on Caprica all the time. "You're frakking me? I thought I recognized him!" he grinned and then bumped her with his shoulder again. "Look at you, Thrace. Landing a big time sports star. Didn't figure you for the type."

"You will. I know you." She grinned and handed the bottle over, shaking her head. "Kinda used to it. I still think 'Dear Gods, Helo spawned' and have to start the process all over again."

She mimicked his expression, then laughed. "Not recently. And that's him. My sports star turned Cylon resistance fighter turned Cylon." It was her little lead in, letting Karl know that she was married to a Cylon. Something she was still coming to grips with.

Sam wandered out of the bathroom, rubbing over his head with a fluffy white towel. One thing he'd really missed since the entire fall of civilization as they knew it were the hot showers. Long, luxurious hot showers. Staying in the shower for forty-five minutes. He just had. He walked to the closet and dug out a pair of cargo pants and a t-shirt. He'd gone shopping for clothing, finding something called a military surplus store, and he'd grabbed himself some comfortable clothes.

He'd work up to looking less like a resistance leader the more time they spent here, he was sure, but for now, he was playing it safe. Erring on the side of caution.

He didn't bother putting on shoes and he wandered out into the living room proper, spotting a scattering of people. Leaning over, he slid his arm around Kara and kissed her temple. "Mm...Hey baby."

Kara was a quarter of the way into the bag. She had been pacing herself, since she wasn't sure who was showing up and if she needed to remain somewhat near sober, she was going to. When Kara realized not that many people were showing, she'd taken to the booze with gusto.

She grinned at him warmly when he moved into her, closing her eyes and sighing as he kissed her temple. "Hey there," she said quietly, turning her head to kiss his jaw lightly, wrapping her arms around his waist. She breathed him in, smiling against his neck. "You're warm. And you smell good." She pulled back and looked at him, leaning up to nip his lip.

It was strange, having him there constantly. It was like living on New Caprica again. She woke up in his arms, fell asleep against his chest. She wasn't having as hard a time with it as she expected to. Instead, she looked forward to seeing him.

"Going to get drunk with me?"

Sam's arms locked around Kara's waist, pulling her into him as she leaned in and kissed him. She was more like Kara back on Caprica now. Like a weight had been lifted off of her. He grinned down at her, able to smell the liquor she'd been drinking, and he laughed.

"You smell like a still." he teased, leaning in to meet her lips for a long moment before he remembered that they had guests and he pulled back, reaching for a bottle.

"I'll have to catch up, won't I?" Smirking, he cracked open the gold-labeled bottle-Jose Cuervo?-and took a drink.

She remembered the first time she'd been completely shithoused with Sam, in the pilot rack on Galactica, right after she'd rescued him. It brought back that feeling of giddiness she'd had then, that overwhelming love she'd felt for him and the fact that he'd survived despite the odds.

Given that he was a Cylon, and she knew that now? Kara wasn't sure what it changed between them, if anything. He was still Sam. He was still beyond devoted to her, and she still felt that primal, deep seated love for him she'd felt the moment she met him on Caprica.

"You love it," she teased back, grinning against his lips as he kissed her, Kara sighing and relaxing into it before she pulled back, licking her lips and clearing her throat.

She pointed to the bottle Sam had picked up, shaking her head. "That is more brutal than Chief's 'shine, Sammy." She shuddered a little, then leaned back into him, tipping back another shot of the whiskey in her hand.

Pausing for a moment, Kara grabbed Sam by the hand, tugging him through her bedroom to the balcony, where she took a seat on the couch that was there.

"Sit with me, Sammy." She let her eyes roam over the lights of Las Vegas, still not used to the fact that she was on a planet again. That she could go outside without a suit and feel the breeze on her face.

Sam chuckled against her lips, his mouth pulled wide in an almost giddy smile. "Yeah, yeah." In that moment, he felt Kara relax and he relaxed. She was nothing like she had been on the Demetrius. She wasn't half-mad here, screaming about the things that they needed to do. Somehow, what ever connection that was seemed severed.

Maybe it was because they were on Earth. Maybe this really was Earth. It seemed as believable as anything else.

He lowered the bottle and winced, coughing a little, embarrassed at the fact that she was right. Capping it up, he grabbed a bottle of whiskey instead, grinning down as Kara grabbed his hand and tugged him towards the balcony.

Sliding open the door to the balcony, he walked out with her and sighed at the warmth of the air. Despite the fact that they were in a city, the air still seemed clear and clean. He smiled and stretched out on the couch, kicking his legs out as he slouched. Raising his arm, he beckoned her close, wedging the bottle in the crook of his elbow as he used the same hand to unscrew the lid.

Kara slid over into him when he beckoned, folding her legs onto the couch beside her and tucking the bottle in next to her hip. It stayed there only momentarily, before she downed at least three shots in a few gulps. She was feeling no pain, and ready to feel even less. Kara leaned her head against his chest, staring out over the lights of the city.

They needed to talk. She knew she wanted to work on their marriage now, since they'd decided to live together again. It was an interesting arrangement, one she should've kept up even after New Caprica, but Sam's assignment to another ship seemed to have halted even the idea of that. It didn't matter now; they weren't on Galactica, she wasn't feeling that driving urge to find Earth anymore (they were on it, weren't they?) and she no longer had any kind of real military responsibility.

With everything that had been standing in their way gone, Kara had no excuses, not even Lee. Either she wanted to fix things with Sam, or she'd been lying to herself all along.

Kara let out a sigh, nervous energy building in her despite the numbing effect of the alcohol. She tucked the bottle away again, then pulled away from Sam, leaning into the back of the couch and looking at him carefully. The beauty of him, the one that always left her breathless, was still very much there, and she smiled softly. "So. Sam. I think we need to talk again, even if we don't want to." It was a party, but there were important things that needed to be said.

Sam's arm linked over her shoulders, his hand brushing against her upper arm as she curled up into him. He sighed and looked over the lights, his eyes roaming over the casinos in the distance. He could make out a tall black pyramid in the distance, one that always made him smirk just a little. It reminded him vaguely of Kara's tattoo.

As she sighed and tucked the bottle he looked down at her and drew back, sitting up just a little. Capping his own bottle, he set it aside and then returned her smile. "You want to talk?" he asked, before he nodded. He was patient. Calm.

Even as hope sprang eternal. "What do we need to talk about?"

Kara's eyes drifted from his face and onto the horizon again, her hand resting against his thigh. "Us?" She sounded a little pathetic when she said it. He'd been the one always pushing about talking things out, trying to find out where her head was so he could simply understand her, and she rarely gave him anything other than a quick frak and a hard shove away. Now, she wanted to talk about it.

Add in the fact that she was slightly tipsy, and it was a recipe for opening up completely to him.

"I know we haven't been here that long, but frak... I feel more like myself here than I have in a long time." She smiled wistfully, looking down at her finger as she picked at the side of her thumb. Kara looked back at Sam, her eyes honest. "Things were just so hard... I couldn't understand why you wanted me anymore, not with how frakked I was."

It was like she'd been watching herself from the outside looking in for so long now, from the point where she frakked Lee on New Caprica. Watching herself make one mistake after another, leaving Sam twisting in the wind so many times. Yet there he stayed.

"It's like someone switched something back on in my brain, dragging me here. I needed to find Earth? Well, frak. Here it is." She looked Sam in the eye, her brow knitting again. "I think I'm me again, Sammy."

"You seem more like yourself, Kara. Here." he murmured, before he chuckled under his breath. "Gods, I was never happier than I was in the moment I saw you next to that Viper, back from the dead. It killed me that Lee got there first, but then, he always had." A million things had run through his mind at that moment and none of them had mattered nearly so much as the fact that there she had been standing. Alive.

Reaching out, his fingers brushed her cheek and he nodded. "I can see it in your eyes. You look more alive." he let his fingers slide into her hair before he leaned forward, kissing her softly. "I love you, Kara Thrace, and I'll be with you however you'll have me."

She frowned, shaking her head a little. She couldn't really argue; Lee had been in her life first. And Kara had thought she loved Lee at some point. But she loved a part of Lee that would never have her as she was, and she only loved that part. Sam? She loved Sam completely. "It's still weird to know I was gone for two months. Seeing you in the jock smock... You look like such a frakkin' tool." She grinned at him, tilting her head a little.

She turned her head into his hand and brushed her lips across his palm, smiling. "I feel more alive." That vacant feeling she'd started having since they jumped too far away from the nebula had been growing instead of fading, until the moment she'd woken up here in Vegas. Sure, she'd been kidnapped, but it didn't matter. "Still can't believe you're a frakkin' Cylon, though." Her mouth twisted up into a smirk. There was nothing she could do to change it, and she loved him too damned much to think about making good on her promise.

So that left accepting it, or ending her marriage. She wasn't willing to do the last one.

She returned his soft kiss. "I love you too, Sam Anders. And I want you like this. Happy. Healthy. Blindly in love with me." She smiled at him before kissing him again.

"I do not look like a tool in my rig." He huffed, narrowing his eyes on Kara as he smirked. He thought he filled out the suit pretty well. Too well, actually. It wasn't like they could tailor make them to a T though. "If I look like a tool, everyone looks like a tool."

"I can't believe it either." he murmured with a shake of his head and a soft grunt. He didn't feel different. He felt the same. Just...he was a frakkin' skinjob. And everyone was showing up all of a sudden.

"Yeah? Then get drunk with me, Kara, and relax." he hummed as he kissed her and reached for his bottle, feeling happier than he had in a long time.

Maybe he could handle being a cylon. As long as he was here with Kara, he didn't mind so much. It didn't seem to matter.

"Absolute tool. I mean, the Buccaneers stuff is sexy on you, but the flight suit..." She shook her head slowly, fixing him with a look. "I made that thing look hot and you will not convince me otherwise." Kara grinned at him before leaning back into his shoulder, looking out over the city.

Sighing, Kara kissed him hard, lingering for a long moment. "Getting drunk sounds good. Should just kick everyone out and get frakked to the gills." She cracked open her own bottle again, slugging back a few swallows before flicking the cap over the railing. She knew she had to reel it back a little or she'd still be drinking while Sammy was passed out here on the balcony.

Cylon or no, his alcohol tolerance was pathetic.

"So, we're okay?" She tipped her head up and looked at him, her brow knit slightly in worry.

Sam shook his head. "Nice. Can't even get lies on my sexiness from my wife." He snorted softly, teasing, and he leaned back against the bench again with her in his arms.

"Doesn't it?" he tilted back the liquor and felt it burn down his throat and he drank as much as he could before he pulled the bottle back and winced, making a face. "I miss Ambrosia. What the frak is this? Raptor runoff?"

Looking at Kara at her question, he kissed her forehead and then smiled. "Yeah. We're okay. Just...try to stay with me. And just me, alright? Can you do that?" He was patient with her back on Galactica, what with Lee and the frakking around, but here? If he could be enough for her, he would.

"Not in the jock smock, no way." She settled in closer to him, laughing as he winced like a little girl at the booze. "I know Ambrosia is much easier for girls like you. But this? This is..." She squinted at the label, which had gotten a little fuzzy. "Whiskey." She laughed, then snuggled in closer to him.

Kara closed her eyes and smiled when he kissed her forehead, nodding. "I can do that." For once in her life, Kara meant it. She'd seen what she'd put Sam through, including frakkin' disappearing on him for two months, and yet there he was. "I love you, Sammy." She leaned up and kissed his mouth, giggling a little.

"You're so frakkin' mean, Kara." he shook his head and lowered the bottle, coughing a little. Whatever it was -whiskey- it was hellishly strong. He nodded as she said the name and felt the warmth curl in his stomach, sighing as he rested back.

"Yeah?" he asked, feeling hopeful, really hopeful, for the first time since seeing her get off of the Viper. He grinned down at her, his eyes warm, and he returned her kiss. "Glad to hear it, Kara. You have no idea how."

"I'm not mean. You're just a frakkin' girl." She grinned at him, wrapping her arms around his waist, setting her bottle on the ground under the couch. She twisted until she was nearly seated in his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck.

"And yeah," Kara said, her voice taking on a serious note before kissing him once more. She was determined not to frak this up this time around. She was being given a second chance, and she was going to take it. Realizing just how much she loved Sam (hell, she risked her life for him to get him off Caprica) was a wake-up call she needed, and she knew she was going to lose him if she didn't cut out her own bullshit. "I'm glad you're glad, Sammy." She smiled and kissed him yet again, pulling herself in close to him.

He leaned in and returned her kiss, making the slightest of sounds into her lips in response. He slid his hand into her hair, smoothing it ffrom her face, and he smiled. "Good. We're both glad." He kissed her again and then pulled up his bottle, knocking back another healthy swig.

"You love it," she quipped, grinning widely at him. The snarking between the two of them had been from moment one, when they'd first met on Caprica. It was easy. It flowed like water, and had been so dammed up lately that it was like a floodgate had broken. Kara could breathe again.

She could play at being mean to Sam, not actually be mean, like she had been.

Kara pulled herself into his lap and grabbed her bottle again, curling against his chest to look out over the city as he mentioned the view. It was beautiful, even if they were in the desert. A gentle breeze blew over her skin, and she sighed, closing her eyes against it.

Earth. Somehow, she'd gotten here. Her destiny was fulfilled, and now she could just relax and be. Sure, she was itching like a stim junkie to get into a Viper, but other than that? She could learn to not be on a lone battlestar protecting the last remaining humans in the galaxy with a tenuous at best truce with the Cylons.

Sitting on a balcony in Sam's arms with a bottle of booze and a spectacular view? That definitely sounded much more appealing.

"Not a gods damned view like it. Want to explore the city with me soon?" She turned her gaze to his face, leaning in to nip at his jaw before taking a few long gulps from her bottle.

Sam relaxed beneath Kara's weight, finding it a comforting presence. She was warm and smelled like Kara. He couldn't explain it, but she was just how comforting to all of his senses. He felt the breeze blow over his skin and he smiled as he looked over the view.

This was better than Caprica. Better than winning a Pyramid game. This was the best moment of his life. He had a slight buzz already, sitting here with Kara, and he tilted back the bottle and took a drink.

"Yeah. I'd like that. Just you and me. This place kinda reminds me of Picon. You know, without all of the water." He leaned into her nip, grinning.

She settled against his chest, sighing and closing her eyes for a long moment. His faith in the two of them... It was always astounding to her. She'd played with his heart like it was nothing so many times, and yet he still stayed there, waiting for her to wake up.

As she saw it now, she was waking up. She was waking the frak up and seeing what was standing in front of her, waiting patiently. Sure, it turned out he was a skinjob. That was a flaw she wasn't quite ready for. Then again, it was a flaw. Sam's perfectness had been marred a little.

Kara might still have seen herself as a total frak-up, but at least she wasn't married to a saint anymore.

"Didn't spend much time on Picon." She opened her eyes and stared out over the bright city ahead of them, feeling the numbing edge of the booze drifting over her. Kara settled more heavily into Sam, laughing a little. "Mmmmm, who knew kidnapping could be so relaxing?" She laughed again and looked up at him, grinning as she kissed him.

Sam believed in Kara. He believed in them, in their love, and it wasn't anything that anyone could convince him otherwise of. He ran his fingers over her shoulder again, staring out at the city scape, and he loved that moment.

Loved everything about it.

He just grunted in return and lifted the bottle to his lips, the liquid swishing around for a moment before he tilted it back and took a drink. "If I'd have known, I'd have kidnapped myself a long frakkin' time ago." He kissed Kara's forehead as she leaned into him and he felt his lips quirk in a small smile.

"I love you, Kara Thrace, no matter where we are, when we are, or who we are. Don't you ever forget it."

She looked up at him once more, her heart lurching in a good way at his words. Kara did love him, even if she wasn't sure she deserved him. He wanted to love her, so for once, she was going to let him. And do her damnedest to love him the way he deserved.

"I love you too, Sam Anders, even if you are a frakkin' skinjob from my future." She smiled a little, leaning in to press her lips to his. "I love you, Sammy." Her voice took on a serious note, Kara wrapping her arms around his neck. Her eyes closed and her brow knit, Kara squeezing him tightly.

It didn't matter that they'd been taken, that they were now sitting on a balcony on Earth throwing back booze. She felt happy.

And she was going to try to hold onto it this time.
