RP: James, Sirius and Remus
Who: James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin
Where: Leaky Cauldron, London
When: 13th November, 2025
Summary: James, Sirius and Remus catch up.

James had gotten to the Leaky Cauldron a little before he was supposed to meet Sirius and Remus, mostly out of nervousness. It was obvious that the dinner hadn't gone as... Swimmingly as he'd hoped and that tempers had been frayed more than he'd have liked. He just wanted everybody to be friends and yet somewhere, somehow, he'd managed to almost fall out of his other friend's lives. They had their own lives with people he didn't know all that well. And for James, who had always been at the centre of the Marauders, that was a pretty bitter pill to swallow.

He knew that Sirius was hurt from Snape- Severus knowing first about the baby. It had been obvious at dinner and afterwards, when thinking about it, he'd realised that if it had been reversed, he probably would have been furious too. More than furious, most likely. It was only that night that he had seen proof that Severus Snape could be anything but a big, greasy git but he'd try to, more often, for Lily's sake. And it was probably part of that excitement at the fact that Severus wasn't what James had assumed for years that had compelled him to mention the baby.

So he had to fix things. He did. Because he loved Lily and was excited that they had a baby on the way and he also wanted his mates around him however selfish that sounded. And Sirius and Remus had been there since the first day of Hogwarts and the idea of them not being there was just too weird to comprehend. So he had to sort it out.

Once he'd ordered a pint from the bar, James found a booth and sat down. He then picked up and studied the menu, waiting for his friends to join him.

"I could although I'm not keeping the house-elf heads like your family," he said with a snicker. "Are they still there? I remember thinking you were joking when you mentioned it in our first year!"

"It was hardly a chore to work on it," James teased, chuckling. "The side effects of having this new generation are a little weird though. I swear Lily wasn't so sensitive about smells with Harry... I have to eat red meat outside the house, she can't stand the smell of it. It's like having an affair every time I eat a beef sandwich."

He looked at Remus and grinned. "So Moony... Any plans to join the procreation bandwagon? How are you two spending your days now you're out of Hogwarts anyway?"

Remus shook his head over the topic of house elf heads. He knew Regulus had kept them because of Kreacher. But, somehow he thought it would be more awkward and not less if he was the one to comment on Black Family traditions. Instead, he chuckled softly at the effects of Lily's pregnancy. "I guess you should have that steak and ale pie, then."

He rolled his eyes at the both of them. Really, it was almost amusing that the one who wanted kids the most was going to be the last to have them. But, at least he had a chance to have them now and he was more than willing to wait for the research to be done so their children could be born in a way that didn't completely throw Regulus' family's traditions out the window. "There are plenty of plans. We just happen to have more patience than certain others I could mention," he added with a smirk.

"In the meantime, I have Hope to dote on and two little nephews to spoil coming soon."

"Not where they used to be." Sirius admitted with a grin. "Kreacher's far too attached to the idea of adding his own head to the line one of these days we couldn't get rid of it." And Regulus was far too attached to Kreacher not to let the house elf hold on to the hope of his head being stuffed one day.

"Though don't forget to do something about your breath before you go home." He warned Jamie with a smirk. "Wouldn't want Lily to know about your indiscretion."

"Yes, I'm sure there are plenty of plans. You two are probably trying for kids every day." He smirked at Remus. It was better with just the three of them - there would still be the dinner to discuss but he couldn't admit it was easy being with Jamie and Remus, despite the changes they were now going to have to deal with. "You know I've always thought patience was overrated." Especially once he'd made up his mind to do something.

"Very soon." Sirius agreed with a grin, and really that they were having to wait so long for the twins ought to say a great deal about Sirius' powers of patience.

"Freshening charms, my man. I wish we'd taught them to you when you had a penchant for turning into Padfoot. Many a morning you woke up with dog breath and we never said a word," he joked, remembering the days after the full fondly. They had been reckless at times, too reckless perhaps, but they had always had fun. "Then again I often had twigs in my hair from the antlers catching on branches. The forest wasn't so Prongs-friendly."

"You're the most patient man I know, Sirius," James dead-panned before cracking into a grin. "How are you and Jamie doing waiting for the twins anyway? Are you getting stuff ready yet like the nursery or waiting until closer? It must be exciting, right?"

James smiled at Remus. "Which means you'll be an old pro by the time I need a babysitter," he teased. "We obviously timed this well."

"If anyone has any reason to complain about the smells in that dorm, I think it's me." Remus laughed, only half kiddidng. "Do you have any idea what a dorm full of teenage boys smells like, really?" Shaking his head, Remus grimaced. That would be one thing he did not miss about no longer teaching at the school -- the overwhelming sense of teenagers.

"Of course there are plans," he told Sirius, chuckling dryly, not wishing to get into the details of said plans just then. Although, Sirius' commentary on patience did bring out a soft snort of amusement.

"Babysitting? I don't think I'm supposed to do babysitting," he teased, the memory of how little time he'd had with another Potter baby no longer the sting it had been even a week ago. "I'm pretty sure I'm supposed to say that's what house elves are for," he continued with a wink. Of course, that might be more believable coming from a man who hadn't spent the morning holding a sleeping baby or, who hadn't been found once or twice playing with the babies of the house elves.

"And yet for some reason you thought it would be a good idea for me to make Padfoot a more permanent thing, doggy breath or not." He smirked. "I'm sure it smells absolutely dreadful, Moony, would you like to enlighten us further?" There were times he thought the extra senses that Remus had might have been brilliant, and then he'd say something like that and remind Sirius that he was perfectly happy being a perfect example of the human race.

"Of course there are plans, he says." Sirius echoed Remus and grinned, "You wouldn't be happy if there weren't some kind of plan, I know how you like to be organized." And it didn't surprise him in the slightest that they would be planning for children, he knew it would have to be something they thought about if they were going to do it in some way other than the options available to them now. And knowing his brother they most certainly would not be using the muggle method.

They had been preparing a room for Lily's baby in truth, it wasn't really a nursery yet, but by the time the baby was born they could have it ready. They still had some time for the twins though. "Course we're getting things ready, we can't have our son's born into a world that is not prepared for just how amazing they'll be." He chuckled.

Sirius snorted when Remus continued making mention of house elves, Regulus' influence on his friend was evident even when Remus was joking. "I'm pretty sure that's my line." Sirius insisted. "Besides we all know you can't resist babies." He teased.

"Merlin, I never really thought about it," James scrunched up his nose. "That can't have been pleasant at all. Don't know how you could stand it actually."

"I don't think Remus can actually survive without a plan," he stage-whispered to Sirius. "Although without him, the map would never have been finished. We might be brilliant but we're not terribly disciplined."

"Oh they're definitely going to be your children then if they're amazing. No doubts about that," James chuckled and looked at Remus. "And as for you, you are a big mushy werewolf with babies," James agreed, pointing an accusing finger at Remus. "There's no point pretending you're not, Moony. We're on to you."

"Are you sure you really want to know, Pads?" Remus smirked evilly. "If you really like, I can tell you in great detail about what a room smells like with four teenaged boys living in it, sweating in it, wanking in it -- and no, you can't hide that from a werewolf," he laughed, shaking his head. Cleaning spells could only do so much when they were created by beings without enhanced senses.

Maybe he ought to look into creating one of his own, come to think on it.

"Disciplined? You two?" Remus snorted. "If it wasn't for my insisting on a plan, or at the very least, contemplating what to do if something 'brilliant' turned out not so brilliant, there would have been a lot more detentions on our collective record. Besides, I only pushed to finish the Map so hard because this one," he pointed his thumb at Sirius, "was driving me mad with his constant apologies." Not that Remus didn't suspect that was the point of the Map all together, get him talking to Sirius again.

Laughing he threw up his hands in defeat. "'Big Mushy Werewolf'?" he repeated incredulously. "All right, I give. I happen to have a sop switch that flips automatically when children are in the room. I cannot lie and will not deny it."

Sirius laughed when Remus threatened them with the gory details of living with a group of teenage boys, wrinkling his nose he shook his head. "You know I think some things are best left to those of us with a certain hairy problem, Moony." Sirius remembered well enough what it smelled like to him with his normal senses, no need to go and make it worse.

"Moony, I'm hurt. I happen to be a very disciplined individual." Sirius said clutching his chest. "Just ask my husband." He chuckled, before rolling his eyes. "Oh don't lie, you were just as eager as the rest of us to finish the map." And maybe Sirius had spent an inordinate amount of time apologizing after everything that had happened, but he couldn't see going throughout school with Remus never talking to him again.

He laughed, this was easy, and he was having fun lauging and teasing with Moony and Prongs again, he felt like this was the way the dinner should have gone - they should have been able to have fun like this together despite all the changes they had all gone through. It seemed easy enough at the moment, but they were talking about the past for the most part - there was very little being said about their current lives, apart from talk of the twins. And really, how could you be anything other than pleased when talking about the twins?

"He has a point you know Moony, pretty much fits you perfectly." He teased.
