Entry tags:*complete, 2025 10, character: dylan vaisey, character: edward chambers

RP: Edward and Dylan
Who: Edward Chambers and Dylan Vassey
Where: Hogwarts, Trophy Room
When: Tuesday, 26 October, 2025, afternoon
Summary: Edward goes to see a man about a bowl and finds a puzzle instead.

Edward had been waiting impatiently for over twenty minutes outside the office of the Head Curator for the Clio Wing at the British Museum. If the Museum hadn't been one of his most frequent and high paying customers, he would have walked out ten minutes earlier. But, as it was, when the secretary opened the door and announced Fitzwilliam was ready to see him, Edward merely nodded before stepping through the door to the curator's office.

Or, what he had assumed was the office.

For all the times he'd visited the museum, he couldn't remember the curator ever collecting trophies, at least, not actual trophies. The man's collection was something Edward could recite from memory, having been responsible for obtaining most of the pieces and authenticating many of the rest. The bowl he'd been called in to look at was twelfth century, carved from wood that had petrified over the years. It certainly wasn't the tacky silver thing that greeted Edward upon entrance.

Glancing about him, Edward moved cautiously into the room, which was filled with these childish monuments to...wait. The Hogwarts Quidditch Cup? What was that doing in the museum?

Moving closer to visually inspect the cup and then others nearby that held equally recognisable names and honours, Edward frowned. It didn't make sense for so many school awards to be on display at the museum. No one cared that much, not even about Potter's history. And why had the curator arranged for them to be here when Edward was coming to authenticate a new find for him before it was put on display?

There was an open door nearby and Edward slowly walked toward it. If this was some sort of elaborate prank, he most certainly couldn't see the significance. This was something the Weasley Twins might have pulled off. But he couldn't see those two bothering with the museum, even if Fred had still been alive. The door proved to lead to a gallery filled with arms and armour. And this was even more familiar than the trophies left behind him.

Edward had loved to come to the gallery as a student, walk amoung the history and artefacts of bygone wizards.

But, this couldn't be the Hogwarts gallery he'd known any more than that could have been thr trophy room. It had to be an elaborate display for some reason, an exhibit on the history of the school, or something of the sort. There was no other explanation.

Opening another door at the other end of the gallery, Edward found himself in a familiar corridor. And, really, this was getting ridiculous. Spotting someone at the far end of the hall, he called out impatiently. "You there! Find me Curator Fitzwilliam. The man has a lot of bloody nerve wasting my time like this. If he can't be bothered to keep his appointments, the museum can find another expert, although good luck finding anyone better."

Dylan wrote down the information Mr Chambers gave him, watching the purple paper he'd been writing on duplicate and take flight to their intended destination. Someone would verify that Mr Chambers was who he claimed to be and try to alert his family if possible.

"Thank you, Mr Chambers," he said. "We'll try to locate your family, if not we'll find some other way to confirm your identity."

"The date today is October 26, 2025," he said as he looked up at the other man. "The spell which brought you here has been active since last September. Several people have returned, some, like you, from rather recent years, others from as far back as the early 20th century." He paused. "What you all have in common, is that you all at some point died."

Edward chuckled, but said nothing. There were a number of ways to verify a person's identity. But, he didn't need to share that information.

"Yes, well, tell your men to be careful, then. They're all muggles. The dig is a muggle operation, staffed by muggles. And if you think the Mexican muggle government has a reputation, you ought to meet the Wizarding government there."

The rest of what the man said made him shake his head. "Two thousand twenty-five? And you expect me to believe I'm already dead? At forty-eight? As I am currently excellent health, I can only assume I met with an unfortunate end. So, what was it? Another accident on a dig? Foiling a robbery at the house?"

He was still annoyed, but poking holes at this fabrication was beginning to amuse Edward.

The news that he man was a muggleborn changed things, of course. Even if the man's parents knew of magic, which they would, how did you explain returning from the dead? Then again, that really wasn't his table was it? His was simply to bring them, question and inform them.

Summoning a paper, he put it on the table in front of the man. "Take a look for yourself," he said. "I don't expect you to take my word on it."

"I don't know yet how you died, no doubt that's being looked through right now. "You should have an answer soon."

Edward glanced at the paper, but as he'd already stated, anything could be faked. Instead he sat there, fingers drumming on his knee, trying to put the pieces together.

"All right," he said, finally, "you have a paper supposedly from a future time and my life is being looked into. What now? Did you have more questions, or am I to sit here and wait until someone decides to do something?"

Dylan wished there was something else he could answer, but instead he nodded. "Yes, though it should not be much longer," he said. "A few more minutes then someone will bring the information to you."

He didn't think Mr Chambers believed him yet, but then that wasn't quite necessary either. He'd learn the truth eventually, and adapt to the situation.

"I'll go and see where the information is," he said. "In the mean time, you need to consider whether you have some means of employment or not. If you do not, you have the right to a stipend from the Ministry until you can get a job."

He got up and walked to the door. "Before I leave, is there anything else you want to know?" he asked.

Edward shook his head. There was nothing he needed so much as information. From there, he could assess the situation, deal with this inconvenience, and get back to his life and his research.

Perhaps he should start with researching this time travel theory. If it proved to be true, who knew the possibilities?
