RP: The Final Battle
Who: Everyone at Hogwarts and Death Eaters
Where: Hogwarts
When: 15 October, 2025
Summary: It's time to face the music

They gathered in the Great Hall at seven o'clock. Everyone was dressed in black robes, and they passed on the magical armbands that would allow them to recognise each other on the field. It would hopefully give them an advantage and protect some of the weaker members. When they were ready, the units began to trickle down onto the grounds and reach their positions. They used trees, rocks, fixtures and carriages to hide. The children were all in the trees by the wal, the same with the rear unit. They'd cast the spell on all of them to make sure that the werewolves wouldn't pick up their scent.

When finally they were all in their places, Severus created a hole in their defences, right by the gate, and then they waited as the sun appeared in the sky. They didn't have to wait long before the gates creaked open. From his position, Jamie couldn't tell who was who, but it didn't matter.

They waited with a patience that he didn't possess until all the Death Eaters had crossed the gates and only then, the dragons flew in the sky with the aerial team, keeping the Dementors occupied, while their troops move to attack, encircling the Death Eaters.

Thus the battle began.

Astoria

Astoria hadn't fought in the battle of '98. She hadn't felt the need. It had been the war of Potter and his Gryffindors. However this was different. She was fighting for her children, for her family. None of these people had their pedigree and she wouldn't let them ruin their society.

She flew in a way unbecoming to a lady, but she didn't care. Today wasn't the time for etiquette. Today was the day to show everyone what Slytherin women could do when someone threatened their family.

Things happened fast in the air. Dragons and fliers going at each other, fighting. She didn't bother with strange or exotic spells. Nothing that complicated, but when she tried the killing curse the first time, she couldn't do it. It wasn't until a hex grazed her thigh that suddenly her anger can pouring out and she cast it for the first time in her life on a living person.

"Thank you, Father," she muttered, before starting to fight for real, not stopping until a grey light hit her and she fell from her broom, descending rapidly and losing consciousness as she hit the ground.

Marlene hadn't liked her assignment. She knew that it was because Alastor trusted her. She understood the reasoning, but it didn't make her like it. She wanted to fight next to Alastor and Kingsley. She wanted to be near them and keep an eye on both of them. After losing Emmeline, she didn't want to lose Kingsley and she couldn't even imagine living without Alastor, but she didn't complain and did her job.

There was no playing on that field. Every hex had to count, keeping the Death Eaters inside the perimeter, killing them, because wounding them was too dangerous. She didn't think the D man would have approved, but he wasn't there and someone else gave the orders, and Marlene followed orders.

She didn't use the killing curse, but she knew plenty of spells that killed with the right amount of power and precision. She cast them, clearing the path, trying to protect the weaker fighters, but no amount of training made you invisible or all knowing.

When it came, it wasn't a duel, but several Death Eaters cast a series of blasting curses at once and all hell broke loose with rocks and branches flying everywhere, people too. Marlene went flying in the air, hitting her head on a rock as she fell on the ground and then everything went blank

Stephen was under the invisibility cloak that they had given him. He was staying near the gates, looking on. Pipsy was with the children, but every once in a while she'd check and come back with an update.

He'd have to make a choice: leave or stay.

For now he'd stay and pray that God above was paying attention.

The dragons were magnificent, flying high in the sky and diving to do their jobs, fire hitting the Demontors, burning them until there was nothing left. The keepers didn't even have to do much work since the dragons seemed to sense the other magical creatures and instinct did the rest.

Callum kept checking the other keepers, making sure that none were getting hurt from the many Death Eaters that were on a broom, but all of the kids were holding their own, fighting hexes with fire, just like a keeper should do.

At the end of the day, Callum brought down his dragon back to the pen with nothing but a few scratches on him.

The worry that had tried to creep up on him the day before when they'd gotten news that the battle would be today was gone that morning. Charlie felt only a sense of purpose and he made sure everyone remembered where they needed to be, and what they were supposed to do one last time before they were on their dragons.

But it seemed that it was all unnecessary, at least for those on the dragons - they were trained for this, just like Charlie had reminded himself the day before. And their part was likely easier than anything those on the ground were dealing with.

One Death Eater managed to make it through the fray and Charlie's shoulder was hit with a slashing hex. Thankfully he'd seen the man coming for him before he'd sent the hex off and he was able to avoid being hit with the spell full force before his dragon took the man out. He'd need a healer at some point but the injury wasn't enough to stop him before the battle was finished.

Caradoc

Caradoc was glad to be in the air, he much preferred the tactical advantage it gave him over their enemies. And he was all too glad to be up away from all the dangers that lay on the ground, though he worried for Felix despite the assurances they'd made for one another the day before - he couldn't help it.

Though he didn't let his worry distract him. There were far too many opponents for his attention to be anywhere but on the situation at hand. There was a slight thrill at being able to fly with the dragons in their midst and Caradoc moved through their practiced formations and drills, no longer practice though.

Though he didn't escape the day unscathed, his arm caught a particularly good hex at one point and it wasn't until he had solid ground under his feet again that he realized the extent of the damage done - the bone broken. He needed to find Felix though as he'd promised, his arm wasn't going to kill him after all.

Belvina was enjoying herself in a bloodthirsty kind of way. Whilst she enjoyed tea parties and dinners, this was a much more visceral pleasure and one she could feel right down to her bones. She flew as she did everything, with determination, and she tried to seriously injure everybody she came across, casting spell after spell and feeling quite smug that she hardly missed her mark at all.

She was worried about her family, of course she was, but Belvina wasn't worried that any of them would die. The Blacks were stronger than that and all of them had skill in offensive magic and duelling; it was an innate capability and assuredness that would help see them through this.

She screamed in fury when a spell hit her square in the chest late into the battle, feeling from the excruciating pain that something had been ruptured inside her. Feeling faint, she grabbed hold of her broom tighter than before and pulled open a vial of blood-replenishing potion with her teeth. It would have to do, she couldn't stop now.

When she got to the ground a little bit later, when the battle was over, she took another strong anti-pain potion to dim it and gritting her teeth, managed to slowly get to where the Healers were.

Azriel had meant what he had said to Stephen the day before; he might be a bigger target sat on the back of a dragon but the creature underneath him could dish out more than enough damage without him doing anything at all. If anything, his job was just to make sure it didn't damage his own side.

His dragon was amazing, swooping down from higher up when necessary and he felt truly lucky to be doing this. And maybe a tiny bit sad that tomorrow or the day after, he wouldn't be doing this. Perhaps he needed to think more seriously about his career options but that was a debate for another date.

He was hit by something at some stage across his back, a Slashing hex of some kind considering the sudden pain and the blood he could feel, but Azriel didn't think it was serious and carried on until the end.

Dale didn't like this. He felt unprepared, he felt weak and he felt useless in the grand scheme of things even though he had been to the classes, fought well and had tried to learn everything he could from the teachers. He was grateful that they had given up the time to teach the civilians in the castle but it still couldn't stop him from feeling afraid for himself and his friends. They wouldn't all make it, some pessimistic part of him kept whispering.

Still, he fought as well as he could, casting the hexes he had been taught, ducking to avoid others and trying not to get hurt. He just had to get through this and then he could see his family.

It was near the end that he turned and with a dawning horror, saw the green light streaking towards him.

He wouldn't see his family, after all.

Despite his bravado to Caradoc the night before, Felix wasn't looking forward to today. He wasn't on a broom and didn't like the idea of being on the ground where people could approach you from all angles without giving themselves away at all. At least on a broom you were high enough up to look around you.

He cast spell after spell, recalling his training both here and at the Ministry before he went on assignment. He sent hexes to make people bleed, make them fall, nothing serious but something that would hopefully take them out of the fight till the end.

All of a sudden he was thrown off his feet by a hex - and the incantation didn't sound like anything he'd ever heard before - and he fell to his knees in pain, his insides doing something that he thought they probably shouldn't do, judging by the pain he was in. Fuck, Caradoc was going to kill him later.

Seeing green light flash towards him, Jazz twisted so the Death Eater in his grasp took the curse for him. Dropping the body he crouched ready as another werewolf lunged at him, seeming to forget he had a wand. Using a slashing curse, Jasper aimed for the throat and the ‘wolf dropped to the ground to bleed to death.

Nails raked across his wrist as yet another werewolf attacked –what was it with these guys- and his wand fell from his grasp. Snarling slightly, Jazz elbowed the man in the face, feeling the satisfying crunch as his nose broke under the blow. Bending to retrieve his wand, he didn’t see the curse thrown his way, but he felt the excruciating pain as purple flames wrapped themselves round his torso. Gasping in shock, he winced as the motion caused him agony and he pitched forwards onto his knees. His insides felt like they were on fire and he tasted blood. Fuck…

Lee was going pretty well he thought, the Death Eaters seemed an endless hoard but he made his mark on them. It was weird fighting without the twins by his side, but they were up in the air. Where they belonged, it was pretty comforting to know they were up there taking care of the Dementors and holding that pressure off the fighters below.

Ducking behind a pile of debris which used to be one of the Thestral drawn carriages, he hexed from behind the shelter. He wished he knew some of the darker curses the Death Eaters and Aurors were throwing around. All he had were the skills he picked up from the last war and Dumbledore’s Army. He heard a cry of ‘Confringo!’ and started to run, but not fast enough. Behind him the debris exploded, sending chunks of wood in all directions. What used to be a wheel struck him in the side, knocking him down and he lay dazed for a moment. He was short of breath, but that was just because he was winded, right?

Even though they had been practicing with the areal squad the last few days, there were moments when the formations with the dragons and other flyers broke up for brief moments in order to dodge out of the way of oncoming curses and hexes from the opposition. Andrew kept his concentration on his dragon and setting fire to any one flying in front of him.

His dragon, whom he called Verde Incendia, pumped his wings harder in order to catch up with the death eater in front of him. Andrew tensed his legs in anticipation of the flame that was about to erupt when the dragon opened his jaws wide and ate the man, broom and all. "It's time for a snack, love," he shouted as he leaned into the turn for the creature to rejoin formation.

"Avada Kedavra!" he shouted with relish. A woman dropped mid cast and fell to the ground. Greyback loved the smell of the battle. Blood and sweat filled the air and he happily send a Cruciatus Curse at a nearby man. As the man's screams filled the air, the werewolf laughed.

His wand whipped around and blocked an oncoming hex before sending a slashing hex of his own. One of the legs of the witch who had sent the hex burst open, he saw the color of her hair change from brown to fiery red as she attempted to send another hex at him. Again, he blocked the hex easily before sending another slashing hex aiming it for her neck.

Blood erupted from her neck and she fell.

Turning his attention back to the battle, he saw another man running towards the man Fenrir had just crucio-ed. Wand out, he said, "Avada Kedavra!" The man who had been running with a limp dropped dead.

"Crucio!" he said with a chuckle, enjoying the screams of the other man. Merlin, I love killing!

The waiting was the worst part. Draco just wanted to get this over with. Sparks flew from his wand tip several times, illustrating the impatience that the man was dealing with.

And then they moved into position blocking the Death Eaters' only possible route of escape. It was a pretty decent plan, Draco admitted.

As the combat waged, he knew what he was fighting for: his mother's memory and legacy, his wonderful wife, and their beautiful twins.

Then the curse struck him, catching him off guard and he felt the world turn upside down as his head swam with pain. He dropped a potion vial, creating a dark cloud of dust and he did the only thing he could think of and crawled toward the trees they had been hiding in.

Baron - Dragons
[info]bp_baron
2010-10-15 05:24 pm UTC (link)
The Dementors were everywhere. He could feel the chill even with the dragon beneath him. He aimed his dragon in their direction, grinning as the fire consumed the evil things. He shot hex after hex at Death Eaters on brooms, and let the dragon snack on a few as they flew by, snatching them right out of the air. Not that he could have stopped them, but he didn't even try.

He alternated between Dementors and Death Eaters, taking out the Dementors from the air before they could reach the forces on the ground. There was only so much Patronuses could do, and the dragons could take care of the rest. He felt hexes hit him, but so far he'd managed to avoid anything serious.

So far seemed to be the operative word. The death eaters were falling quickly now, and the Dementors were nearly gone. Baron eased up a little, guiding the dragon back up so he could have a better view of the field, see where help was still needed.

The blasting hex took him by surprise, but he managed to turn at the last second. The curse missed him, but hit the dragon in the head. It wasn't enough to kill the dragon, but it was enough to make him angry, and stun him. It was all Baron could do to keep the dragon on course, and not fall off. He couldn't protect himself from the hexes that hit him, one after another, pain flaring up with each hit.

Finally he got the dragon under control, blood dripped down into his eyes, his shoulder screaming in pain from where he'd wrenched it, probably dislocated it, as he fought to keep the dragon under control. He could feel slash marks all along his back, deep cuts that flared with pain everytime he moved. He couldn't stop now though.

Taking care of the death eaters who'd attacked him was easy, but he was dizzy with pain and bloodloss by the time it was over. He knew he needed to get to the ground before he fell. A look around showed that the battle was almost over; bodies strewn the field but most of the people still standing had their armbands showing proudly.

He headed towards the forest, burning a few stray Dementors he came across, and landed the dragon in the pen. He could barely stand, and his arm was useless, but he managed to secure the dragon and stumble out to safety. He couldn't go any further, and dropped to the ground, hitting his head harshly against a rock, and then everything went black.

Theo was not normally a fighter. Sure, he could duel and he knew more ancient Dark curses than most, but he'd never been in a battle. The last one had not concerned him, this one did. He wasn't fighting for the people in the castle, those - for the most part - he couldn't care less about. No he fought for revenge for Charlotte's death. For protecting all that was his. His family. His home. His way of life.

He didn't hesitate to use every dark spell he could think of. There was no time for the niceties, it was live and fight or die. Every spell out of his wand was lethal, and he tried to keep up as the Death Eaters swarmed the grounds around him.

He spotted the green light too late, and knew he'd failed to duck even before it hit him.

Craig was in the air, dodging curses and getting his own off as the battle went on around him. Curses and hexes were flying everywhere and he was doing his best to look for the yellow arm bands before firing off curses and hexes of his own.

As he dodged one hex Craig felt his side get hit by a slashing hex, he could tell the cut was deep and felt his robe become wet with blood. Another curse sent his way hit him and he felt himself fall to the ground, a piercing pain as he hit the ground from a rib puncturing his lung. Craig struggled trying to get his breath before passing out.

Loki - Bellatrix - Remus - Regulus
[info]artful_loki

Loki was not a fighter. A few weeks in the castle had not changed that.

Somehow ending up in the main group set at the head of the road to the castle to block the death eaters' approach didn't seem able to change that, either.

He'd tried to keep himself as far to the back as he could. There was one of the three leaders, one of the werewolves who'd been training them in combat flight, -- uselessly, apparently, in Loki's case -- and a host of other more qualified individuals who all seemed to be born for this sort of thing in his group. One lone street rat should have been able to easily hide amoungst them, keep his head down, and stay the hell out of the way. It shouldn't be that hard to slink to the back and stay there, maybe just stay behind that nice rocky knoll?

But, the enemy's apparent penchant for blasting curses made that difficult. Even hunkered down there was flying debris and as against type as it was, charging into the fray, or the edges thereof, seemed the better part of cowardice. If he just stayed near the guys who knew how to fight well, he'd stand a better chance of someone saving his sorry arse.

And that was how he came to be so near the werewolf, where he was fighting several of the death eaters, when a flash of green he was certain couldn't be meant for him became his personal Heimdallr and took Loki out of the fight permanently.

She was nervous that morning, it was probably a stupid thing to feel at that point. There wasn't anything she could do to stop what was coming, and they had trained for this. She knew on some level they were ready for this, but Jamie had been right - there would be losses.

But Dom steeled herself for this, tried to get a hold of the nervous energy that filled her and just focus on what they had to do today. She could only take care of herself in the air - and when it was over she would check on the rest of her family. She just had to focus.

In the end, Dom made it through relatively unharmed, she'd been hit with a few hexes, and she'd probably need to see a healer at some point, but she wasn't about to pass out from anything she'd been hit by. Her main concern now was her family and Dylan.

Now this was the sort of thing Jacob had been waiting for from the start. The chance to kill as many as he could before this was all over - and he certainly planned on making very good use of the time he had available to him. His only concern for those wearing the bright armband was that he not hit them, always conscious of the vow he'd made to the late Headmaster.

But beyond that, Jacob didn't pay attention to them - he cast curse after curse, watching each hit their mark with perfect precision causing the bodies to fall to the ground lifeless. There was only one thing he might have changed about all of this, and that was the time he was able to spend on each kill. Even here there never was the proper amount of time to truly enjoy it, but Jacob let himself focus instead on the thrill of the dark magic flowing easily though him.

It was all over far too quickly in his mind, bodies littering the once empty grounds, both friend and foe. And he sighed shaking his head brushing off any dirt that had ended up on his robes and setting himself to right again, giving no concern to the few bumps and scrapes he'd earned himself along the way.

Fear coiled itself deep in the pit of his stomach, Sirius felt it the moment they were in the air, that paralyzing fear that the Dementors brought with them. Only this time he wasn't rendered completely useless - the potions his brother had been working on seeming to actually help him and he was able to push past it, to focus on the fight to lead his group the way he was supposed to.

He was thankful for the dragons though, watching as they burnt up any of the Dementors that crossed their path. And Sirius actually thought he'd make it through this unscathed. He could fight - and he enjoyed doing it - and he was good on a broom, and as unhindered as he was from the Dementors he felt pretty good about the outcome for the day.

Of course, by this point in his life Sirius really should have known better than to start feeling cocky in the midst of a battle, things always went wrong at that point. He'd been dodging curses and hexes since they got in the air - but as he dodged one he ended up right in the path of another, the hex landing hard, hard enough to knock the wind right out of him and that brief moment was enough to rattle the control Sirius had been holding on to and he tensed up, only for a moment, but it was enough to make him lose his grip on his broom and go tumbling down to the ground, hitting hard, the world going dark mere moments later.

Kissing James goodbye, she watched him take off on his broom, and then went to get in her own position. It wasn't long until the field was filled with fighting, and she didn't have time to worry. They'd trained for this, almost nonstop for months, in a way that was far more intense than Auror training had ever been. Dodging a blast of fire, she shot off a blasting hex and didn't stick around to see if it'd been fatal. These were the men and women who had celebrated her sons' death, had killed her friends, and were doing their best to see wizards enslaved. That was enough of impetus to keep her going, focused on taking out as many as she could.

The wave of nasuea took her by surprise, and she stumbled. The hex hit her in the back, knocking her over. Another hex stole her breath away, and it was followed by a barrage of curses, each one adding more pain on top of pain until she was screaming with it, unaware of anything except the red hot agony flowing through her body. She tried to defend herself, but the pain made her sloppy, and she couldn't even get up off her knees.

The Death Eater raised his wand, and shot off a slashing hex. It grazed the side of her neck, and she finally succumbed to the darkness.

He was swerving from side to side, dodging hexes and other flyers, aiming and hitting whenever he could. His aim had always been good, and the training lately had made it better. Most of his hexes hit the mark, and by the end of the fight he only had scrapes and cuts.

That's when he was hit in the back with a spell that knocked him off his broom. Luckily he was already fairly close to the ground so when he fell there was no great danger. He hit the ground with a painful thud, feeling his wrist snap at a strange angle as the wind was knocked out of him. The hex he shot at this attacker missed spectacularly, but his second hit it's mark and the Death Eater fell off his broom and crashed into the ground. He took a deep breath, forcing away the pain. His side would be bruised and hurt for a few days, but the wrist was worse. That could be healed in about a second however, so it wasn't a big deal. Aiming his wand at his wrist he stabilised it the way he'd been taught at Auror-training, then got back to his broom. The fight was almost over, and he was perfectly well enough to keep flying for a while before seeing a healer for his hand.

The Hogwarts gates Al had anticipated walking through so much, months ago, since the first time he entered them to visit Severus in the castle, were now far more threatening, looming in the distance just over there, past the bend of the path.

They waited and it was cold and silent and suddenly there was sound all around, far worse than a dozen Weasley gatherings and Diagon Alleys put together and there were crowds rushing toward the middle and it was madness and screams and hell.

Deep inside Al there was this overwhelming urge to rush forward into it, just because the shock from the noise didn't deafen his mind for once, because he felt he could and because today, he knew he could accomplish so much! He knew he could! It's as if that tiny doze of molten gold opened his eyes at the world at last.

No I can't, his logic told him. I can't! I promised Severus.

Al stayed back then and the first spell he cast was Expecto Patronum, releasing the ghostly owl forward and sending it into the midst of the black swarm of creatures, human and not, fighting each other.
