Summary: James needs someone who will see things his way
A tall stag galloped swiftly up the Hogwarts lawn, hoofbeats muffled in the grass and his passage scarcely noticed in the gathering dusk. It was a measure of James's distraction as he was leaving the farmhouse that he'd forgotten to grab his broom, but his Animagus form could get from the gates to the castle nearly as fast. And it had been too long since he'd run.
He wasn't even winded when he transformed back in front of the great front doors, hand still clutched around the parchment. Lily hadn't even let him have it when it had come a week ago. Even after he'd promised - grudgingly - to refrain from sending the sort of incredulous, horrified response he wanted to, she still didn't seem to trust him.
Probably he shouldn't have trusted her, either, given what sort of response she'd sent back. He loved his wife and knew better than just about anyone how stubborn she could be, so he tried not to speak his mind as often as he wanted to regarding her (gag) 'friendship' with Snape, but he could not understand where that enormous blind spot of hers came from. And offering not only to attend the wedding, but to stand up for the murdering sack of scum?? James's own wife! It was nearly as appalling as the fact of Al agreeing to marry the man.
Jamie and Sirius marrying had given him a turn, but at least they were both good people, people he cared about. Not slimy, hateful, vicious, spiteful, toadying, Dark-magic-loving greaseballs.
Not that he was holding over any grudges or anything.
Maybe it was just as well Lily hadn't let him near a quill for the past week.
But he really needed to let off some steam, and for once Lily was not the person to vent to. He had a feeling, however, as to who might be on the same wavelength he was, and so he was striding through the halls of Hogwarts, half hoping he wouldn't run into Snape, half hoping he would.
Fortunately or unfortunately, he made it to Harry's and Ginny's rooms unmolested. With a sigh, he tapped on the door.
